Jordan's was being called the goat by his peers and competition before he won his first 3 championships.. There wasnt debated and nobody even questioned it. It was just accepted. Kareem having the scoring record didn't matter in the discussion then and Lebron having it doesn't matter now

    • @andrewcook1246

Everyone understood Nike, the league and media groomed Jordan as soon as those shoe sales hit. Most people now weren't alive to see any previous greats. Those that were say Jordan to be PC but all have other players like Kareem, Dr J, Bird, Magic, Russell, Wilt as their personal goats.
Mike robbed Olajuwon of a dpoty, won mvps on teams that weren't even top 8 overall in the league and was the first or only player to do this and that because before 1983 there wasn't a dpoty to win, before 1979 no 3pt shot, before 1968 no def teams, before 1970 no finalsmvp, before 1973 no blks or stls to record, before 1980s most games werent even recorded, and there was certainly no major advertising for Kareem because he was a Muslim or Russell because he played during Jim Crow.
Edit: Its the undisputed part in the goat title that honestly pisses me off. I mean here we are watching the 20th daily video about the subject yet MJ fans swear theres no debate. Imagine crowning a dude 2 chips in over Russell, Wilt, Kareem and Mikan. Hilarious to say the least. Funny how every Jordan fan doesn’t want to use numbers or career accomplishments in the goat debate because if you actually look at them. I mean it’s not really close. Jordan might have been the best season to season player. But the stats don’t lie. Better all around shooter. Better passer better. All around playmaker and a more versatile player. Better team player. Better leader. They say LeBron had to learn to win but what they say about Jordan is worse. Doc rivers and others have said Jordan would stuff his own stat sheets in his first 6 years and it took Phil (head coach) to tell him to get his teammates involved. Then he started winning. LeBron already did that and by year 5 was in the nba finals. Took Jordan 7 years. So if you wanna say Jordan’s the goat than fine. But lebron is right there and there’s no disputing that fact.

2 of those seasons he barely played, so really it's 11 full seasons as a Bull. He amassed 68 official NBA accolades in those 11 seasons. LeBron is in his 21st and has 63.
People talk about Djokovic in tennis, all the titles he's won, more of the big titles than anybody else, that's his case for the GOAT. He won more than anyone else.
People talk about Messi, more big awards than anyone else, so many league titles and now a World Cup. He's the GOAT because he won more than anyone esle.
Of course these guys are also amazing statistically, so they have both the stats and resume.

@@StrictlyStrange67 truth. Case in point about the offensive rebounding, which are more impactful than defensive rebounding. As of LePeds first few games of his 21st season, he still hasn’t past MJ’s total offensive rebound total😂😂😂. 6’9” vs 6’6” and 25lbs heavier and LeQuit hasn’t pass a “guards” total offensive rebound numbers. He has played 6 more years then the goat, who is smaller. He cannot touch MJ on offense or defense. How is he even past the legitimate top 10 all time greats, much less past Magic, Bird, Duncan, Kobe etc. Forget MJ.
Stats alone don’t make you goat, especially when most of your stats ain’t legit with this corrupt league giving him rebound credit after another player tips the ball to him, giving him cheesy assist totals by changing the assist accrual rules, allowing him to flop to pile up fee throws which he bricks 60% of the time etc.
Ridiculous to have him in the top ten much less ahead of the legit goat candidates.

This is not meant to be disrespectful at all because I like LeBron and think he is a generational talent. Let me say this just as food for thought though. The longevity discussion for LeBron is both his greatest strength and his greatest criticism and here's why. If I play at any high level and have great players surrounding me and I do it for 20+ years then I should be expected I hold all the records. Simply speaking he has done less with more talented people around him, for a longer period of time. I mean we are closing in on him playing near double the amount of years Jordan did, with going from various super teams, load management, and in a less physical game. I'd hope he'd have about all the records with a 20+ year career considering all of that. Just sayin', and it is something nobody talks about. Jordan did more with less, and in less time. Take away his time with the Wizards, and he still did more with less time and with a less talented supporting cast and didn't jump from team to team or need a super team to do it.

They were masters at getting and 1's or causing you to foul them in the act of shooting because they both had finesse. I'll take finesse over power any day. Jordan and Kobe were both very strong as well, but they used that take contact and still make the shot.

Bird was a more complete player offensively and a better closer and I say that because Lebron for his career is only shooting 37% outside of 3 feet and in the playoffs it goes down to 31%. @@howsittastesI think they are pressured or payed to say that. Lebron has amassed a LOT of power over the NBA and Silver. Players and analysts know that and the ESPN’s and Fox’s can’t go against him.
This is not a logical or reasonable debate for a sane, UN manipulated brain. One man is undefeated in the finals for 2 3 peats in one decade, while amassing massive dominant numbers by playing team ball.
The other guy got dominated with sweeps and beat downs in finals which he contributed to by playing little to no defense as well as flopping, quitting or just mentally running away from the moment often. I didn’t even mention his record of failures 4-6. He has more failed seasons that MJ’s total career played. 😮. We won’t even talk about the accolades MJ has over him while playing team ball and not stat padding.
Imagine if Jordan approached the game from a selfish standpoint instead of team standpoint? No one would get close to his offensive or defensive numbers. Yet Lebron took much longer to pass some of MJs numbers he got playing team ball within a system.
The eye test seals the deal in any non-biased onlooker. Lebron is a lumbering, clumsy oaf by comparison with a very small offensive arsenal. All he has is hill smash football moves thatbare against the NBA rules but they let him get away with it.

the other reason Le Bron has more points is 3years in college for Jordan 2 years early retirement ,retired in his prime he might have 8 NBA titles . So as 5 years of his pts per game based on 76 games played times 5 =new totals plus playoff games of which he avg 12.5 games x5yrs = then take his 33.5pts a game x12.5x5= his new totals. So Lebron playing his last 14 years in a league that has become more passive and with load management camping out for a 3pt shot has given all NBA players an extension of years to their careers.

MJ has more scoring titles than Kobe and LBJ combined. And he did it during the hand check hard foul era......

MJ and Kobe had a work ethic sbove all... that's why teammates called them a..holes,but also made them better. Kobe came in and completely changed that Dream Team with his work ethic...MJ and Kobe's killa instinct was devastating

Lebron really only has the longevity argument in this debate - MJ accomplished more in less time and did it in a more physical era.
He is still the only player in NBA history to win the Scoring Title (he averaged 35.0 PPG) and the Defensive Player of the Year in the same year, also he is the only player in NBA history to achieve (in the same season) the following accolades:
    Regular Season MVP
    Scoring Champion
    NBA Champion
    Finals MVP
Selected to All NBA First Team
Selected to All Defensive 1st Team
He did that 4 times in all and 2 other times he won all bar the Regular Season MVP - over 7 consecutive years he won the Scoring Title every year averaging 30+ PPG every year and missed a grand total of just 7 games!
He is the GOAT and it is not even a close debate.

MWP is all over the place with his memory of MJ's last years....said he missed most of his first season with the Wizards then came back for two more and that his very last season was really bad, that he dropped 40 the first season. Not quite true. MJ only played two seasons as a Wizard and he dropped 40 on Metta in his final season, one month shy of his 40th birthday

Before Phil came Doug Collins had MJ at the point and he put up a triple double almost every night. His scoring dropped slightly but his assists went up astronomically. Not just 10-11, Im talking 15-16 assists per game.

Jordan was primarily a scorer but to say he didn’t pass or that it was the weakest part of his game is such a made up thing.

Jordan said it best “ the real question is who had a better team around”.
Jordan and pippen played around 10 years together and had phill Jackson as a coach the whole time. Never saw or heard pippen thought that he was than MJ. We all witnessed Kyrie behavior towards LBJ. He finally understood after many failures, he was not all that. Jordan is great, at the same time, we can say that he had a better team around him for a longer period of time.

9:58 I agree with what Ron is saying here. If MJ, who was an amazing shooter back when you could put hands on people, played in this era where you can't touch a dude on mid range and 3s without a call and if he played exactly like harden played in Houston.... Bro... That dude be averaging whatever he wants. If he gets 80% of his teams shots ? Stop it. This would just be unfair. I would have loved to see his matchup vs golden state if MJ played today
