- Full Restoration of WW1 Binoculars
Made in France by Lemaire. This model dates from right around WW1.
The "Made In France" stamped in English suggests these were made after 1918. All products after that date, imported into the US were required by law to have a country of manufacture marked on them. These were originally finished in black lacquer and leather. I refinished them in black brass lacquer and wrapped them with black cowhide leather.

No error of margin while sticking the handle protectors to the handles. Terrific piece of restoration. Perfect.
So incredibly soothing and no annoying music.
I could watch for hours.
Thank you! 😊
Великолепно!
In my opinion a perfect restoration, you kept their history whilst making them as close to how they originally looked as possible.
This was incredible! Things were made so much better back then! That's why I collect and restore vintage/antique wood working tools. They were made to last. I have a block plane that is between 145-152 years old and it still makes shavings!!
You have another subscriber! Great work!
I get a feeling of immense satisfaction watching that last screw go on. I can only imagine what it does for you. Thank you for these videos
Awesome restauration, he don't look brand new but still old ( not shiny, without NO Patina as some YT videos) but in perfect condition ... a real restauration !
Thank you very much!
i'm pleased that they were restored back to the original spec but honestly i think they look way better polished and unpainted
Absolutely! Not painted was way better!
Not painted is more visually exciting but remember, these were WWI Field Glasses and shiny brass would make an excellent target for a sniper...
Well, people are always unhappy when these type of things aren’t painted their original color, or what have you, so he did the right thing. He restored it to original condition making no exceptions.

I am still wondering how he figured out the template for the binoculars?
Very impressive!
The last adjustment with the screw to place the slot vertical is something that was taught a long time ago to apprentices. You sir are a Craftsman. Thanks for sharing this fine work.
A visitor to my house once noted "that's cool, the screws on your light switch plate ended up vertically" as if it was an accident... "huh, how about that?" haha
Outstanding restoration. A terrific piece of history that has lasted all this time,
it says lot. 👍
Impressive craftsman skills. One of the very historical pillars of civilization here.
Painstaking work by someone who very obviously knows what they are doing to achieve an excellent restoration.
I simply wouldn't have the courage to attempt this unless I had 10 sets to learn on.
Need to find a restoration video of my Tento binoculars
Officially one of the coolest things I have seen restored!
Fascinating ... who know there were so many pieces. I love when you lay them all so we can just what goes into them. Fascinating.
Aww, you painted them! I loved the raw metal.
Enemy snipers would also have preferred them to be shiny metal.
Nice work.
I have a pair of those displayed in my home. Thank you for restoring that pair.
I truly hope you still have this part of history brought back by you still in your home! I am a retired soldier and it must be considered that the possibility of this soldiers survival is small!
Well done! I like the use of tinted lacquer as the original would have been, and the meticulous way you laid out the pattern for the new leather.
Наконец то хоть кто-то на самом деле сделал как нужно!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow i did not expect the end product.
I had my doubts at times... but, geez... they turned out beautifully!!!
Wow...just amazing!
Fantastic job
Very, very well done.
Great job !!
👏🌹🙏 Greeting from Nepal !!
🇳🇵Hail Nepal !!!
Outstanding restoration, brought back to like new condition . More importantly 100 year old quality saved from today's standard of , "It's old , l want knew." All Brass , no plastic anywhere .
Thanks. Technically the bakelite knob is plastic. But bakelite is the prettiest of all plastics :)
Marvellous restoration, i couldn’t imagine it turning out any better
Also you’ve helped me get over a hurdle with one of my restorations, I never though of using paint thinner now I am able to simply paint over a textured paint instead of removing it.
What a great work
Another peace of history was saved by you
Thank you
Yours Frank
I have those exact same pair of binoculars, with the original leather case, from the same time period and everything! So it's really cool to see a restoration on them.
Is the brass screw left brass? Or has that also been painted black?
@@bravo2966 It is painted
Beautiful resoration of cool field glasses. Your math skills tho... crazy! Thanks!

Excellent restoration .. Thank you for showing us this beautiful work .
Beautiful!
Great job
I too, enjoy completely dismantling everything in sight....
They just aren't always broken, and don't necessarily always make it back together....
It's good to know I ain't alone in this predicament!...
AMAZING!!!!
really nice thanks.
I love Antiques so much. Sometimes you just never realise how many parts there are when restoring. So many things I love about this its just So Cool. May they last another 100 years now. 👍💗💗💗 Thank you for sharing. Stay safe an take care of you an yours.
p.s. when you edit your videos, consider lowering the volume on the parts when you use your little hand tool. It can get very loud at times.
If you go into your sound settings, you can check the 'loudness equalisation' box.
Great work!
Yeah man, turned out great!
Turned out great! Beautiful work.

Magnificent job that. Derelict and now fully functional 100 years later...
I have a large pair that was used on the yacht named Rene. It was owned by Alfred P Sloan. The former chairman of General Motors. My grandfather was the VP of the Sloan foundation. The binoculars have the name of the Boston the case and the binoculars
What a beautiful job..!!!!!.
Nice work with the compass, ruler and pen. Like it....👍
Can’t imagine what was witnessed through those
L'Opéra de Paris, la Comédie Française, typical french binoculars for live shows.
Erimian Clement dam I figured they were on the battlefield, interesting
Most likely but also the following years.
Probably a rifle muzzle flash...
Death

Good Restoration Done 👍
👏 👏
Best work!!!!
Cool video. Learning a lot about binoculars. Well done.
As a child, I had such binoculars. I had received it from my grandparents. It was worn out back then and was called theater binoculars. It was very similar in shape. But age is certainly right.
Yes, this company also made "opera glasses". They are shorter; they don't have the front section. You don't need to see as far in a theater :). Many different manufacturers made glasses of this style at that time. Thank you for watching.
There were prismatic binoculars as early as the 19th
century and I never think that any defense force would have bought binoculars
where you cannot set your own measure for the distance between the eyes - the lenses. For me, it's a theater-glasses. But I agree if you
say it is 100 years or more.
Good job!
Amazing piece of art 😍👍👍👍
Brilliant restoration! You have a new subscriber!
Good job

This guy really be unscrewing whole pairs of ancient binoculars, whereas I can't even unscrew the lid of the jam jar...
Yeah, I,get the lid unscrewed...then can't find it...lol
Wait... you eat your jam without the shell?
🗿 duuuude

Wow, I have a pair of those!
well done
Bel lavoro ! Le faccio i miei complimenti ! La sua e' una vera passione del restauro !
Very nice! Great job!
They came out beautifully!!! I wonder what they would look like left with the polished brass finish… maybe the black protects the brass from tarnishing???
Well done!!! 👍🏻
It does protect the brass. Also these were military field glasses. Shiny brass binoculars are not something you want to be using in combat I would assume .;)
Goooood job !
BRAVO!
Wow, didn’t they come up well. I was wondering how you would do the leather. Well done. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
I love your videos, you truly amaze me at what you restore, beautiful work, thanks for yet another wonderful upload 🤗🤗
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi bro 👋👋👋 awesome restoration field glasses 👍👍👍💣👌🏽✌🏻
Wow! I have some like this but there’re broken. I subscribed!
I understand restoring it to as close to original as possible, but I would have loved to see it polished brass (?).
Either way, great job. 👍
Very nice
