1927 Electrified Christmas Tree Stand Restoration
Vložit
- čas přidán 24. 12. 2021
- This cast iron, electrified Christmas Tree stand was manufactured by NOMA around 1927.
This one still had its original bakelite light sockets and electrical socket. You'll notice the electrical socket takes both parallel plugs and tandem plugs. Tandem plugs sure are a thing of the distant past.
All the wiring I used is 18 AWG lamp wire. Everything is well insulated and safe. The replacement lamps are LED and draw very little current. Then base with the tree lights plugged in only draws a little over 1 amp.

I had the exact tree stand as that for 20 years. I restored it and donated to a raffle. It's only for tabletop sized trees because it holds so little water. Very cool because I've never seen another until now!
Was yours painted like that also? Did the green color go beyond the raised edges?
@@moxee33 I think I remember it that way, like it wasn't real precise. I found it in a metal scrap pile in bad shape but solid. Not very safe with the outlet being non grounded and unprotected. Do you have one that you want to restore also? Almost forgot, there was felt that covered the whole bottom. And I think the lower flat was painted gold too.
I remember my grandmother having one of these when I was a little boy. Hers was almost the same as that one. Used red and green C9 lights (incandescent). I was always so fascinated by that tree stand.
Nicely done!
Never even knew these things existed! Amazing!! Lovely job. ❤️
Oh my goodness, I saw this in my feed and clicked in it so fast I think the time line split. You did a beautiful restoration and the added flakes to the paint is fantastic.
I have the exact one, modded in the long past with 40s dome light indicators and dial lamps. I didn't know the center came out as mine is permanently attached. A Wonderful project.
Thank you so much! Amazing you have the same one. I could only find pictures of a few online; did see one with dome lights though. I bet if you hit that cup with a hammer from underneath it would pop put. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!
These stands were produced for some time. There are versions that the water well wasn't removable.
@@ATonkaTruckOK, that explains some of the pictures I've seen. Probably older ones didn't.
Здравствуйте,я сразу поняла,что это подставка для елки,очень красивая, у нас таких не было, елку ставили в ведро с мокрым песком чтобы не осыпалась хвоя. С наступающим Новым Годом!
VERY cool! I wish they still made these, they're genius!
I can think of at least three ways it can burn your house down.. I think it might be for the best they have stopped..
I don't know that there was a disposityve this in 1927. This is fantastic !! Awesome !! Tks.
Прекрасная вещь. Однако, считаю, что винты нужно было оставить оригинальные.
One of my favorite restorations. I never knew I need one of those. 😍
I would be terrified to put a real tree in that stand but I can see why it would be so popular
Wow, my parents had the same one, I'm 66 an I remember laying under the tree an watching the lights, what a good finding, thanks for the memories
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment!
Beautiful restoration! This is exactly the stand I am looking for my Christmas tree. The only thing I would had used Tru-Tone LED bulbs. If memory serves me, they were introduced by USA Lite using C6 bulbs.
Got em bookmarked. Couldn't get them delivered by Christmas.
Well Done, You! A great restoration, embodying all that I wish for you and yours - A Happy Christmas and a Joyous New Year! Thank you for the pleasure you have given me over the past year, and I look forward to a New Year of the same satisfying and instructive entertainment! - GRC
Thanks, you too!
Beautiful!
Love that tree stand thank you for saving it
What a beautiful stand you have there. Lucky find, great job. Anyone would be proud to own it.
Why don't they make these wonderful things today? That's awesome. Reminds me of all the antique Christmas decorations from the turn of the 20th century that My Grand mother left when she passed. They are now with my elderly Father in Ohio. I will have to make sure they stay with us in the family.
Love this so much. I’ve never seen a light up stand. It’s wonderful and your restoration was fantastic.
I have one of these in my barn. It has never been restored. I’ve had it many years
It's beautiful! Great job! Thanks for sharing this!
WOW! What an amazing restoration. I would have loved to have one like that when I was growing up. Its incredibly beautiful. Thanks for taking us through the process.
Greetings from California

Awww that’s beautiful!
How cool!! I've never seen a tree stand like that before. Personally if I had come across that I'd leave it in the condition it was and repurpose it but your restoration was phenomenal!!!
Awesome job !!!! Absolutely amazing.
Love it ! It came out beautiful!
That’s awesome and beautiful. Thanks for the video
Oh wow I’ve never seen anything like this, it’s so beautiful, thank you for this be beautiful restoration
I love this! They should make similar things again.
What a beautiful job you did. I wish they made things like that now. It added so much to the tree with the lights underneath.
I totally agree!
I love it. I had never seen one before . came out beautiful
Absolutely divine. Wish we had reproductions like that now. You did a great job.
Hmmmm, sounds like a business opportunity to me!!
That is cool! Wish they still had those around. You did a great job fixing that up and making it shine and light up! Happy New Year!
I have never seen a light up stand. Very beautiful job you did on restoration. I have a plastic one
That turned out so well! Nice work!
Thanks for the great memory. My parents had this same tree stand when I was growing up.
That is awesome!
That was a very nice restoration - very straightforward. Then BOOM! - 3D printer for the win! Nice update to an old bit of Christmas ephemera.
LOL, thanks so much!
Wonderful and so unique. I have never seen a tree stand like that. Lucky you to have happened upon it and lucky Christmas tree stand to have had you restore it to it's former glory.
Thank you so much!
Fantastic restoration !!!!!!!!!!!! Two thumbs way Up !!!!!!!!
That was pretty amazing!
Well I have never seen anything like that before. Nice restoration, you did a very good job 👍🦘
Thank you! Cheers!
Super beautiful! Love the results!
Thank you so much!
This is really lovely. It does make me wonder if some gold leaf detailing along the raised floral edges and/or perhaps stenciling along the bottom rim, might really push this piece to the next level. Great job!
Nice job mate! A great restoration as always, and lot of effort, well done 👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much 😀
Well done, sir! The stand is beautiful, I’d love to see it used as a centerpiece on a table to be better enjoyed!
Great suggestion!
Today picked up this same one. Better condition at Oakdale Long Island NY at the flea market.
Just in time for the holidays!
What a beautiful tree stand! Puts all those tree skirts to shame!
Feliz Natal e ficou muito bonito.
I loved the video. The thing that caught my eye more than anything was the aplets and cutlets under the tree.
LOL. I scored 4 boxes this year. Nobody else in the family likes them. I love 'em!
Muy buen trabajo, la verdad que desconocía que existieran ese tipo de soporte.
Great job !
❤
Thank you for another ode to nostalgia.
And Thank you for your skills and sharing.
Merry Christmas from me and mine to you and yours.
🎄

I’m such a fan!! Your work is SO great 😊 thanks for the inspiration :) I’ll be restoring stuff myself soon. I LOVE THAT
Thank you so much!
This is amazing 👏 😍
Great job , another treasure gets a second chance to shine!
It’s really cool!
at first I thought it was a ceiling light...have never seen a tree stand like this down under ever..it wasn't until I saw the old plug being replaced that I realised that it was a tree stand with the ability to plug Xmas lights into the base..nice restore..
Pretty cool
Nice work
Nice restoration! I have the same one in my garage waiting to be restored, can't wait to start.
When you do, check the White Mountain Freezer Facebook group. One of the members has created repro labels. I just bought one and will post a photo in the next week in the community section.
That is beautiful
I have never seen one of those. Very cool
One of the Best Restorations yet!!!
Merry Christmas!!
Thanks, you too!
Very Beautiful...
Muito bom 👏👏
Amazing restoration!!
Thank you! Cheers!
This turned out nice. Well done. Happy holidays.
That is the strangest outlet I have ever seen. Excellent restore!
That was a very old outlet. You'll occasionally find appliances (irons, toasters, etc.) from that time that had two prongs, one perpendicular to the other, supposedly for polarization or to decrease the chances of becoming unplugged accidentally.
Now, I wonder why you used a 3-prong outlet, but didn't wire it with a ground. But that's for a different discussion.
Bravo!
beautiful!
I love it 🥰
So nice👍
I LOVED THE RUSTED LOOK .....
Beautiful! We need to make these again. In America!
These were originally made for C6 bulbs. Nice job for the most part.
It's so cute and incredible)))
Amazing!!! This is so pretty!!!
Merry Christmas!!! 🎄🎁🎅🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
You did a lovely job it’s a beautiful Christmass treat finding it and being able to make it all lovely again Merry Christmass

I have never seen one before and it is very cool and final result was really fun to see

Cool!

Amazing job brings back there very young my great-aunt had one it was made by GE Merry Christmas to you and all of the best for the new year Robert
Merry Christmas Robert!
Very nicely done, just in time to put it to good use for Christmas.. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year my friend...
Thank you! You too!
I've never seen anything like it. Nice work. I'd have added a ground wire, though.
Just as soon as I can find a retro style cord with a ground wire.
In other videos that I've watched by other creators they check for lead paint to keep them safe. I hope you were safe. Great job on your project.
Muito bom 👏👏👏👏👏. Br
Excellent restoration, enjoyed it very much. Would have made 2small changes. #1 i would have upgraded the wire from 18 gauge to 16 gauge wire. #2 i would have put a small on/off switch near the outlet plug. Please keep up the good restoration work. Thanks
I haven't found anyone who manufactures a retro lamp cord in 16 gauge. Probably because lamp cords are almost universally 18 gauge. Combined with the fact that we've moved to LED lights, 16 gauge would be an inconvenient overkill. I was drawing less an 2 amps WITH the tree lights plugged into the base. That's total for the whole tree.
super tare
Merry Christmas from Sweden
God Jul!
Looks great! Obviously the eyebolts arent ideal but like youve said in other comments, kind of pressed for time lol and they do the job. The electrician in me would like to see the plug grounded but its only lights so  I quite like the effect those lights on the base have!
I'm amazed you're the first person to mention the ground. I looked and looked for a retro-style power cord that was grounded and couldn't find one. If I can find one I'll replace it. The body will ground through that screw into the center of the outlet, and I'll feel a lot better about it. Thanks for watching.
