    I seem to have a generational gap. At 77, my idea of a RADIATOR pressure tester is where there is a RADIATOR CAP on the RADIATOR. It didn't dawn on me about using the OVERFLOW container to test the system. To me, a more accurate description of this tool is a COOLANT SYSTEM pressure tester since you're not directly testing the radiator. I'm glad you made this video to straighten me out.

    I just bought this and tried it today. I topped off the radiator before use, this way there was no air in the system. It worked good and I found my leak. No complaints.

    UPDATE PLUS FIX czcams.com/video/iJugs8DJTRM/video.html
    FYI the pump part came apart several times.....Fix...... Coat the threads with Versachem Mega Black. I removed the threaded pump section and coated the threads on the plastic nut holding on the pump suction cup. then coated the threads on the hand tightened pump section.....Now it stays together and works every time. great for the DIY person or smaller shop......
    FYI....If you dont need one all the time and your in the area. Go by Oreilly Auto Parts and you can use theirs for free.

    I would think you'd want to bypass the plastic overflow reservoir at first and connect it directly to the radiator after removing that cap, is that not correct?

  • @TheSkilledfighter
    @TheSkilledfighter Před rokem +2

    You suppost to top it off with water or antifreeze this way there is less air and will work better.

    I got mine at a yard sale for 20 bucks ... happy but wished I was confident of its seal. It seems to leak at the connection where fitting attaches to the radiator.

    Does your tester build pressure when it is not attached to anything? I’m talking about just holding the tester in your hands and pumping it, does the gauge read pressure increasing. I bought the kit but don’t know that the tester is actually pressurizing my cooling system when I have it attached to the radiator.

    • @mikesrandomvideos
      @mikesrandomvideos  Před 3 lety

      when mine is attached to the cap it does build pressure in the radiator

    MIKES RANDOM VIDEOS, how do you know what PSI level to put in your car? and how do you test what the PSI level of the radiator is at while the car is running?

      It should be labeled on the radiator cap

      probably I just used it again yesterday. It has lots of adapters. The pump part is pretty cheap though I used silicone on all the threaded areas to keep it from falling apart. But I use it all the time. Cheaply made but super useful

      I dont know the specs on that car but I would guess around 15 lbs should be sufficient as a baseline for most cars.

      FIX I used versachem mega black on the threads now mine is holding very well. I also took it apart and coated the threads of the pump diaphragm nut. That mega black is great stuff beats the hell out of Permatex. FYI..
