    I never understood how most cars incessantly *ding* if you forget to close the door all the way or buckle your seatbelt, but *doesn't* make any noise when your car starts overheating? 🤔 maybe on brand new cars theyve added this?

    • @everardovaladez7125
      @everardovaladez7125 Před 5 lety +10

      Yes, modern cars will have it. My 2012 Focus started overheating once and it alerts the driver on the dash along with a ping.

    • @oliveresq3340
      @oliveresq3340 Před 5 lety +15

      Cheap cars no but on "luxury" cars yes like my 04 Mercedes if it overheats the dash turns red and beeps like crazy it even does it if I don't close the hood all the way and if it really overheats it displays a message to pull over immediately because it turns itself off to avoid engine failure....but on my mom's 07 Suzuki forenza the engine could be on fire and the car won't even beep...

    • @oliveresq3340
      @oliveresq3340 Před 5 lety +3

      And I think even Mercedes from the 90s did this so it's more about cutting cost on cheaper cars by removing features like this...

      My '06 VW Passat dings and flashes dashboard warnings at you even if the coolant level is just 1cm low in the reservoir! None of my other cars (Fords, Nissans or Volvos) have that feature though. It's all about cutting costs in manufacturing, hence most cars don't even have a washer fluid low light anymore.

      tbh he's not necessarily wrong. I used to do nothing on my vehicles myself, not even oil changes, never shown how and change shops are cheap enough. Well, it all started with the oil change shop I completely trust (distant family owns it, they aren't going to burn me) didn't even want to do an oil change on my newer Rav4 because the dealership (only folks who had worked on it) had cranked down and stripped the threading on the oil canister cover, there recommendation was to go back to the dealership and have them do the oil change where they'd be forced to replace it. I decided to instead order a metal one and install it (Toyota makes a metal one, yet stock installs a plastic one), and that was the start of me doing all my own work. Since then, I've seen all sorts of mechanic issues on my 3 vehicles. And that's not even counting the times they've ripped me off financially; most mechanics seem to just either straight suck, don't care, or are under such pressure to rush they do a piss-poor job.
      So yeah, I'm more distrustful of mechanics than ever now, and if you do your due-diligence and can be a little technical and get your hands dirty, getting how-to and advice from youtube is probably the better way to go. Seriously. Just realize where your own limits are, you probably shouldn't jump straight into rebuilding an engine if you've never even changed a drive belt, for example.

    Hi Scotty, Back in the day,(1989), we also used a Sun 1125 analyzer to sniff the steam vapor at the radiator neck on cars we were not sure of having a head gasket leak or crack.(we NEVER stuck the probe near the fluid). It worked quite well and we then tried to sell the owner on further testing if needed, using the analyzer test as a free preliminary test. Customers remember being treated fairly. Your videos are the greatest, thanks.

      I recommended my grandma to buy a head gasket rated for a high hp sti, but it costed too much and then they had to do it again about 30k miles later and still put another generic brand gasket

      I watch his videos mostly for entertainment, probably because he reminds me of my Grampa.
