  • Just a picture slideshow of more random pics of Sembach Air Base. The first part shows some pictures of what the flight line looks like now. The second part shows what Sembach looked like during the 1980s.

When you look back at the costs and what it took to keep the Free World, Free; in men, machine, monetarily, fortitude, dedication, inconveniences', willingness, sacrifices, etc..., the kids and youth of today will never understand. For those of US who stood at the Tip of the Sword of Freedom, as well as those of the Sword and all who supported the Sword, we have the responsibility to show and teach them and the world with the hopes that this may never have to happen again. Thanks for the videos, keep up the good work.
U.S. Army 84-85 W. Germany, and proud to have served.
Although I was stationed near the border, this still brings back memories from my days over there. For those stationed over there during the 80's check out the YT channel that has a lot of AFN TV news segments.

Was at Sembach when it first opened in 1953. Served in the 302 Tac Recon Squadron with guys from TANG out of Memphis, TN. Had RF-80's which replaced F-51H used in Korea. Left in 1955 when RF-84F replaced RF-80's.

At 3:09, it shows an aircraft that had crashed due to a failed landing gear. Lt. Paul Westfield was flying that plane. It was one of my last days at Sembach. What a memory to take home with me!

Too bad no mention of the 2nd Mobile Communications Group who lived on this base for many years in the late 60's and 70's, and brought many certifications, recognitions and accolades to this base, too!! The "2MOB" was part of ALL of the NASA Apollo missions as well as many "Special" DoD deployment missions to anywhere in this part of the world. "You Call, We Haul" was our Motto!! We CLOSED Wheelus AB in Tripoli, OPENED Zaragosa AB in Spain and many others.

When did it close? We had orders there back in like 2007 or so, but got outta them due to EFMP for our child. I had no idea it closed.

The Air Base closed already in 1995. However the housing area is still in use, but under Army command since 2010.

I was a teenager during these days and lived in a little village close by. Everytime the Broncos and warthogs took off they flew about 700 feet above our house and the glass of the windows vibrated with a humming sound. Even now, 40 years later I still remember the sound and the feeling it created in my chest. Me and my friends kind of fell in love with these planes because of their extraordinary features/look. The two turbines above the warthogs wings and that "bar" between the two tails of the 0V 10 were so unique and different from any other planes we had seen before that they left a great impression in our minds and memories.
