My lecturer flashed his around too. Always resting his arm in uncomfortable looking positions to make it visible at all times.

To be fair traditional watches aren't going to stay top of the game forever. This is the digital era. Smartwatches are getting more popular every year. There are dozens of Swiss watch companies with higher standards than Rolex. The problem with them is that they spend little on marketing which is why most people outside of the watch community have no idea they exist.
Of course! This is a an absolutely true!
I don't think that's a problem for them, they do that intentionally to keep the demand less thus providing hand made quality watches. Also it makes an even more exclusive clubs.

When first time visiting a Rolex store, I was travelling alone in a foreign country for an academic conference, the Rolex store was reluctant to open the door for a poor looking student. I just think that buying a Rolex is a sign of deficiency in a person's confidence or some deep insecurity. It serves no better purpose than a simple watch or a phone. @@carlitoxb110 it literally does beat the Rolex watch dude.
most rolex models aren't any proof of status... they're not that expensive in the first place.. especially when you consider in the resale value.
partly agree with you. I own a smart watch and it has a lot of handy benefits over a mechanical watch. Although a Rolex isn't only a status symbol, in a 10 year span a "cheap" ($5000) Rolex can already significantly rise in value. For instance a friend of mine saved up money for as long as I can remember and with 18 bought a Rolex for 5k. When he was 30 he sold it for 12k when he started a family and needed the money. Maybe I'm just biased bc I'm swiss and my grandfather used to work for Rolex for over 20 years, but I think it's a smart investment early on in your life if you are fortunate enough to be in the financial position to make the purchase.
I just don't like it's looks, I almost always find other Swiss companies making more beautiful and interesting watches.
I agree with this, although most of the cost is brand value that you pay for. There are watches out there with the same development costs, workmanship and material costs which cost about half of a Rolex.

Reason why I will never buy luxury watches no matter how rich I will be, is because of this quote I read long ago: "You can buy the most expensive watch you want, but you can never buy the time from it.'
It's same with buying diamonds and shit. I'd doubt that anybody with that much money would even consider that to be the first thing that comes onto their minds when thinking about what they want to buy. I'd rather get a nosejob with that money.
Reason I'll buy it: "It serves as a reminder, that time is truly valueable."

I've had a lot of inexpensive watches and they always broke. I got a submariner almost 20 years ago and after wearing it every day it's still going strong.
It could be that since your sub is so expensive you take better care of it. In any case I'm sure you're not breaking watches so often that you would have spent $10,000 on watches over 20 years. That's a new $500 watch every year.
The bad and cringe rappers make Rolex look like a watch that sells high for brand name. But this video actually explains it cause of how well they're designed and made.
And this video my friend is another Rolex advertising strategy! 😂😂😂
I bought my rolex with 14 and I have it still in my Collection
All the comments are saying rolex is so over hyped and expensive but there is a reason to it as it is explained in the video. Same goes for the other brands like Apple, Beats by Dr.Dre these products are so expensive because they are marketed better than other products and manufactured using some expensive materials. A Rolls Royce costs so much because they are 98% or 99% hand crafted. These brands put a lot details in their products unlike many of the other products on the market. Apple introduced dual cameras, notch in their smartphones and look other brands are making their smartphones with dual cameras and even Google Pixel 3 has notch. I don't have money to buy these products but i appreciate that they are well made and are worth the cost.
Unfortunately I think Rolex is the only reasonably priced product lines compared to the two examples you gave.
Apple build and material quality is worsening, designs and current model for the "high premium" macbook lines belong in the bin along with the fact that a laptop at half the price or less has more power than their higher priced models, and stacked with lawsuits over it.
Beats are much, much too overpriced for what they offer to other high-end headphones. Is it okay? Sure. It's not failing constantly or suffering from lazy engineering. But if you want actual high-end sound quality, you will not be getting that from the high price premium of a Beats.
As for your last point about others copying Apple;
They're being idiots. They're copying Apple's bad side. Why the notch? Should leave it as is. Looks stylistically ugly in exchange for just a little more screen space. They should be copying their marketing or their tightly-connected ecosystem. Not their design flaws.
@@karotakekashi4520 i agree that beats is way overpriced but people buy it because it is marketed in like almost all the music videos, many other headphones are better than beats for ex Sennheiser but u dont see them marketed so much so people dont know about them. Same goes for Apple i know there are so many great smarphones out there but Apple has 70-80 % share in smartphone industry which os mainly because of their marketing of products. You cant skip an Apple ad on YT u have to watch it till it ends things like that. Some of these products are worth it some are expensive beacuse of their maketing. At the end we the consumers have to decide what to buy.
Exactly. Their marketing is top-notch, undeniably.
Or you know, riot when there is an issue. Rolex seems to be worth the value. Apple not so much. Turns out they cheapen their goods, design flaws into products to fail sooner, and to make repairs nearly impossible by their own technician to encourage people to buy more.
No they are not worth the cost. 17 million? No fucking way

Apple Watch synchronises with NTP servers that maintain time from caesium atom which has a very high accuracy and hardly changes +/- 2 seconds in a 1000 years. And it’s better in terms of features and cheaper than a Rolex.
@Souper Effective Not really, the only few non-subjective benefits of having a Rolex over an Apple watch is the waterproof rating on most models and the ability to continue function when not connected to power for several years and durability. The Apple watch has dozens of non-subjective benefits over a Rolex, such as its ability to monitor health (ECG, fall detection, calorie counting, exercise tracking, water intake etc), keep time substantially more accurately, make phone calls, receive and send text messages, work as a flashlight, receive notifications, customizability of watch faces, wider variety of wristbands and the list goes on and on, and that's not to mention the price.....

As someone who’s very picky about every purchase I make and doesn’t mind paying more if it’s quality, a Rolex is a great product. It’s the kind of watch you buy once and never have to replace, it’s the kind of watch you’ll pass down to your kids and they to their grandkids.
I think it would also be cool if you went over how much a Rolex costs to make and compare the wholesale value to the actual price.
