  • The Darcy program was born from the need for simple, rapidly launchable, high-performance liquid rockets. In 2023, Darcy II earned that title, undergoing three launch attempts throughout the year with the final one reaching a 30,178 foot apogee and setting a new record for the highest recovered amateur liquid rocket. Every launch attempt provided new opportunities to learn, elevating YJSP's ability to push the boundaries of what a collegiate team is capable of.
The previous highest recovered liquid rocket was UCLA's Phoenix reaching 22,500 ft. This record is notably different to the highest recorded altitude of a student built liquid rocket, which was launched by ERAE reaching 47,000 ft without a successful recovery.
Special shoutout to Half Cat Rocketry for pioneering the nitrous oxide/isopropyl alcohol architecture used by Darcy. It removes the need for a pressurization system by using nitrous oxide as both a pressurant and propellant.
Thanks to Derek Honkawa at FAR for the launch footage!
