YJSP - Yellow Jacket Space Program
Registrace 23. 10. 2016
We're the Yellow Jacket Space Program at Georgia Tech, aiming to be the first collegiate team to send a liquid-fueled rocket to space!
Rapid Rocket Engine Testing | Spring 2024 Hotfire Compilation
This semester we hotfired 10 times in one month on our new Helluva Engine Test Stand (HETS). HETS is a pressure-fed system designed to flow high-pressure kerosene and liquid oxygen into our engines. After completing HETS earlier this Spring, we began testing various engines and injector designs at a rate of up to three tests per weekend. We tested our subscale heatsink engine with new coaxial swirl and pintle injector designs in short and long duration burns, and we also tested an ablative engine and a regeneratively cooled engine for the first time. We tested a ramp up sequence as well where we started at low injection pressures and increased them across the burn by adjusting the propellant tank pressures with bang-bang pressurization control. The data and lessons learned from these tests will help us develop engines for our next launch vehicle, Vespula, which we will begin testing engines for in the Fall.

First Rocket Engine Hotfire on Our New Test Stand | Coaxial Swirl Injector
zhlédnutí 2,4KPřed 3 měsíci
March 30th and 31st mark the first fires on our new Helluva Engine Test Stand! The improved system allows for a rapid test cadence as we iterate through new liquid rocket engine designs. We tested a kerosene and liquid oxygen coaxial swirl injector that was designed and machined by students. During the first test we reached 650 lbf but we were low on liquid oxygen flow rate and very fuel rich. ...

What is the function of the cinder blocks? It doesn’t seem like they are built up high enough to absorb the impact of a RUD.
Nuclear explosion simulator
To spicy for the melon 😂 it's 💯 FIRE 🔥
Love that you guys are experimenting!
Uhhhhhh
Guys why does my marshmallow taste like rocket fuel?
Sugar and potassium nitrate?
Kerosene and Liquid Oxygen
Celsius
But the gopro survived. 😂
Only 5000 feet?I was expecting much higher.
*promo sm* ✋
Rocket engines aren't supposed to eject themselves...
No, but we're pushing the engine to its failure point to find the design flaws to make it more robust in the future.
Yeah leave the engine design to the people who know what they're doing... Backseat aerospace engineers these days... smhmh
Nice mach 💎💎💎
Is this engine regeneratively cooled, or does it use an ablative liner?
The majority of this testing is with a heatsink engine which is just a big chunk of steel to absorb the heat and a graphite nozzle that undergoes a small amount of ablation. The second to last test is a fully ablative engine, made of carbon fiber and silica composite. The last test is a half regeneratively cooled engine, the chamber liner is copper with channels for fuel and the nozzle is graphite.
Are you guys getting paid to do this??
Nope, this is for fun and for education
How much thrust does that make?
700 lbs
@@yjspgt Daaaaaang...
Wow! Impressive burn! What kind of trust did it generate?
700 lbs
@@yjspgt Holy smokes that's awesome! Great job to the whole team!
Learn to engineer, engineer to learn, good job.
Yeah that looked real "cool"
I need that in my suv
Dweebs. 🙄
Why does the flame turn green and shoot further out? What makes it do that?
The green flame is copper burning. We inspected the engine afterwards and didn't see any major melting but there was a small melted area where our igniter was.
@yjspgt oh, that's so cool what you guys are doing. Thanks for answering. What kind of metal is it made out of? Did you guys have to get something special or just stainless steel or something?
The outside of the engine is aluminum, and the inside chamber is copper for it's high thermal conductivity to keep it cooled with fuel circulating through the walls.
Helldivers: we need it, FOR DEMOCRACY!
Sick
Ohhhh yeah thats a subscribe for sure, i wanna see where this goes o7
Full steam ahead
Wow, how many pounds of thrust can that deliver?
Around 800 lbf depending on the flow rate of propellants
Wooooooo
Awesome
Yummy nitrous
Rapid disassembly scientists wording for oh shit, it blew up
This is me at the eating Taco Bell
Super sick
Nice green fire
shut up bradenanderson3215
purge go brrr
why the engine just yeet itself midway through lol
Most awesome but inefficient stove
Why?
Wrap the Bacon around the rocket with some aluminum foil
Everybody know you gotta put the bacon on before the launch nasa figured that out in the 50s
You guys are underrated
You can also cut people's hair with this device. -Sun Tzu the barber
Crazy
No need to comment on this
extra rare!
Pretty damn cool
Me after a curry!
okay now fit it into my Mk6
cool igniter flame
What about the lawn, somebody's grandpa is gonna be upset come mowing day😅
