A good fence helps too. Have a glorious day.
Great advice, have a security system similar to this at our place. 24-hour recording, motion alerts, live feed to phones and so on. It's not being paranoid or crazy it's protecting your loved ones. I really like that I can look around the outside of my house before opening the door.
Amen!
What security system?
ive got a scandalous bunch of druggies adjacent to my home. i am indeed paranoid as one of them has been scoping out and knows without a doubt our schedules. id like it mostly for when im sitting alone at home til 2am before my man gets off so i can be alerted if anyone is sneaking around my wide open property in town. sucks to feel unsafe, but im trying to be proactive.
@m c Don't look at it as being paranoid. Like you said, you're being proactive. Just like wildlife, "criminals" don't like being being seen. Maybe add some motion lights around your house also.
Great information, Stoney. That Arlo looks really cool. Going to take a look into that one. Thanks!
Great products. Thanks for sharing!!
Land of the free is in great jeopardy right now
and has been for centuries....my sky is not falling constantly....turn off the TV news channels and put your hands to work my brotha....We need to band together to stop the news media from ripping our country apart to get ratings!
I've seen those arlo cameras at Costco a lot. Glad you reviewed them.
Buen trabajo señor
$550.00? I guess your idea of cheap home security is a little different than mine.
Find a reliable camera for under $100? Man..these days you can't get 5 bags of groceries (real food) for that price...so yep...I'll spend a little more coin for reliability...what good is having a cheap piece of crap that breaks 2 months after ya buy it...I've had cheap IP cameras...they all end up in the trash
I know right
Get a sign warning leprosy quarantine in force.
@Kimberly Taylor Maybe if you had cctv you wouldn't need a lawyer in the first place so it's cheap in that sense, and you could even claim financially for damages which would pay for the cctv. Try using a hidden bodycam to get proof she's lying or tape phone calls.

I have a friend who installed Arlo and really likes it. Edit: Thanks for the diy ideas.
Shared it on my Facebook page. Hope it helps. Great information!
I sure help it will help save someone some true heartache
What a great video. Many ways to protect yourself and property . I checked out a few of the items and the reviews are very positive . Thanks
Love this channel----solid practical advise
Awesome video Josh thanks for the info.
I watched this video about 2 weeks ago. Today I installed my Arlo 4 camera system covering the 4 entrances to my home. Installation was very easy and so far, I'm very pleased with my purchase and the process Arlo uses. Two thumbs up, Josh. Thanks!
How has the cameras held up?
Can you review footage?
Hook a radio up to one of those WiFi plugs. A little random noise is as good as light sometimes.
I agree!
I'm liking that Arlo. I've been researching cameras for years. Was going to get a Nest, until google bought the company! I avoid goog mess, hate it. All I need is internet connected camera that notifies me immediately, lets me talk to and watch whoever triggers it, and totally control it remotely.
Just make sure you dig deep into the app. Make sure to set motion sensitive and the length of the video recorded. They usually come at mid level or low settings. Mine are set at 80% motion level, video starts sooner and just picks up more. Then I have it set to record for two minutes. With these settings, the Arlo can pick up the birds when they fly by. The settings is where people dont set them and think something is wrong with the Alros. (Short videos and not starting recording on time). The Arlo Go even has two way audio.
Got 2 sets (10 total) of the Arlos and love them. Use them inside and outside and the best thing about them is they are easily moveable and very simple. Two have motion lights and speakers and they work great with my smartphone. Had to get a battery backup in case of lost power.
Thank you so much for this info! You may have given me peace of mind.
Thank you Josh again!
Great tips. Great advice. Thanks for everything.
Great information, Josh! Thanks!
Hey Josh Richard and Sandra blakeman here from Texas I just want to thank you for everything you do all the cool ideas I was watching you fix your neighbors lights on his golf cart heard that from turd fuzz making comments you take you keep doing what you're doing you're helping a lot of people out if they don't understand that they don't have to watch they can get a life stay cool my friend Richard and Sandra
Hi Josh, thanks for posting this video!
Guardline perimeter alarms, 12 gauge trip wires from Fith Ops with flash bangs, pepper spray, and dye rounds. Game cameras and house cameras.
Got solar pir lights just like that. Great buy
I live in an apartment, I came home and found the maintenance guy in my unit without my request or a work order, he stated my air conditioning unit was leaking from outside so he came in to check and make sure no leaks were on the inside of my unit. I sounds reasonable, but this isn't the first time this has happened, I spoke with management, of course their goal is to protect the rental property so, they stated it must have been a leak and they of condone his actions. I don't trust him or management. Thank you for the suggestions I will be looking into which is best for me and if you anymore, send them my way. Thanks again.
How do they have access to your unit? Did you not change the lock on your door?
Hi there.
If you're renting then the owner will have the spare keys. They're supposed to notify you before the time if they need to access your unit or otherwise be able to prove that they couldn't reach you that it was an absolute emergency to gain access.
Always read your lease thoroughly.
Surefire! Great company. I had bought my family the Surefire handheld (normal) flashlights and they just wouldn’t carry them around....then I bought them all Sidekicks and they immediately attached them to their car key chains. Perfect.
I travel international and carry my Surefire for ‘avoidance’.
For hunting I have the China knockoffs color lights but when we go into the woods for wounded / shot hogs the 600 lumen Surefire lights come out. On sale you can get them $50-100.
Thanks for your videos.
Thanks Paul....I am a huge fan...they are expensive..but last a lifetime or more...and surefire stands by their equipment
Thanks for all the info!
I don’t know if you intended this but it worked great to get me rewind and watch again at 1:06. The flash of you in the dark. Would have been cool if it was a scary clown. Two thumbs up!
lol
Hey Josh cool video thank you for it it's good to know these things
Fantastic video! Thank you for posting SRF! Subscribed and can't wait for more videos.
Wow! Excellent info. Thanks so much!
Thanks Josh I,m gonna go for Arlo
Good info and video... Thanks for sharing!
I love Arlo.
Good video I'll have to check out the Arlo camera system.
Hi Josh. Again great Vlog. Good ideas and sensible advise. Thanks for sharing your ideas 👍🏻 prevention is better than the aggravation
Amen Simon!
Those are some nifty ideas! The security system is a little out of my budget, but the personal light is a great idea, very helpful, especially for those young people leaving home. As a woman who ended up having to raise a family alone, I had to get creative with home security. Lots of bushes and landscaping is a godsend for burglars/bad guys, but judicious use of proper vegetation is good. I planted Pyracanthus (sp) Firethorn under every window of my home after a Peeping Tom episode--it grows well in poor soil and does great both on the sunny south side and the north shaded side. This plant will seriously mess you up with 1 1/2" thorns. There are stop-bars that fit under the door knobs on both doors. Since I'm now disabled, my sons are going in to get me a camera/mic device on the front door, so that I can talk to/monitor delivery persons without having to get up; it's wireless so I can get it right on my TV screen. Thank you for covering this topic, I sure hope you don't mind us subscribers chipping-in ideas?
Heck yeah great ideas!
For the idea of firethorn or the like under a window to discourage peeping toms/burglars, folks need to be sure to weigh the risk/ease/cost of that being there if someone INSIDE the house may need to get OUT that window, such as in the event of a fire or home invasion.
Not saying the risk always outweighs the intended protection. Just be sure to consider it before implementing the idea.
@@CharlieArehart1 Yep. Also, I started out with antique gardening implements "artfully arranged" under the windows on the public side, as a sort of booby-trap, LOL, but the cops told me that booby-traps would get me in trouble should the window-peeper get hurt while he's spying on me, so the antiques had to get moved to a different place. So folks need to think through the legal aspects of their plans as well.
@@CharlieArehart1It can't prevent you from escaping the fire.
@@cavsomecadence6117yes, it could (a bush with thorns of an inch and a half).
Arlo is awesome! Great for watching gates and animal pins too
This video was very informational thank you 👊
Excellent video and excellent advise!!!!!
Thanks, you have encouraged me to do the same.
Thank you this was very helpful!
For a really cheap (but great) solution, look up WYZE cameras. They have 2 models...a stationary camera for $24, an a camera with pan/tilt for $39. No monthly charges, on board micro SD of up to 32GB...motion sensor, IR night vision, 2 way audio. Meant for indoor use, but there are outdoor housings on Ebay. Connects to your home wifi, monitor on any smartphone.
Yep...I have several of them....2 months has been the average life span....I've found them all to be unreliable and they wind up in the trash.....Arlo is a whole world better than those cheap IP cams....just my experience...they work...but Arlo is in another league brotha..trust me
I use Wyze cameras. Easy to set up and great 1080 picture. It saves motion detection for 2 weeks.
I love the idea of the arlo and would love it if they fixed a few things, 1 Is that the sensitivity settings tend to not pick up people as they walk up so its delayed recording.2 Is that it doesnt incorporate into any other security software. Personally I use POE cameras around my house with a milestone server for recordings. Also the smart plug is not UL rated last I checked, Id like something like that though as long as its safe.
All good but your camera by the door while at a good vantage point can also be (just as easily as you did it) taken down by a perp. Should be secured better or out of reach I would think.
that's why ya have multiple cameras all over...you can secure these with a mounting screw also.fyi or place it up high
Thanks Josh!
Thank You for the positive comment!
Great info!!
I have many of those lights and let me tell you most hold up very very well in all weather. Some you'll want to inspect and fix any potential problems for example the seal
The litom brand has proven itself time and time again for me
Thanks for the tips Josh!
Glad to help...hope you take some of this advice and share it....I want all of my viewers to be safe
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I have motion sensor lights on all the corners of my place. I do like that camera. Unfortunately high speed internet around here isn't available. May pick up an Arlo Go though. 👍
Have Bought 2 of the 6 pack kits. They work great.
Expensive ....but once you've got it...you can hardly live without them....great piece of mind when leaving the farm behind
I'm currently looking at afew different security devises to put in my home while i'm away... I really like the light system that alternates and turns on and off.... I've been thinking about putting afew unmarked strains of electric wire around my yard and driveway gate. I have an old livestock electric fence charger laying in the garage,, I figured it might come in handy for home protection... I'd also like to get a good security camera system sometime... I use to have afew trail camera's set up but they always end up tearing up for some odd reason.
As a former member of law enforcement....lighting is your best friend when it comes to security...criminals don't like being discovered
We have a Arlo to we put ours up last week works great
I'm very happy with our system too....lots of folks comparing it with the cheapo $25 wireless IP cameras...been there done that...and they all have ended up in the trash can.....Arlo is 1000 times better...reliable and I just can't say enough....just a great system and great piece of mind while we were gone to the UK....
Hey Stoney, thank you for the helpful video. I like those solar lights. Do you have any less expensive suggestions to the Arlo that maybe do not have all the bells and whistles but still come in handy? Thanks again, MB
Nothing beats video and audio surveillance. Also an alarm system, with alarm detectors on every door and window.
detectors on doors and windows is def on my list. need better spot lights and some cameras to start.
I didnt know Surefire made a keychain light. Ill look into that. Thanks for the tip. Edit: clicked the link and it's unavailable. That sucks. I guess it's popular. I like a good pocket clip light, rechargeable. The Surefire is only 300 lumins, I'm sure that's fine when someone's eyes are adjusted to darkness and you hit em in the retina from close range.
That's why my lights are typically on a picatinny rail. But the point you made about daughters was a good one. If for whatever reason they don't want to get their CCW, atleast carry a bright light. All the time. And not in your damn purse. 🤣
Great tips!
Hey buddy, good worth-while content.👍🏽👍🏽. Thanks.
Thank you 🤩😍🥰🙏🏽
Anybody who laughs or scoffs at u for taking ur home security seriously can kick rocks.. We don’t live in a perfect world like many may think and lots are out to get you. Always stay on point 💯
Thank you!!!
Avoid confrontation? I don't think so. My cameras are first defense and I'm the threat 😂
thanks for the info josh. ive been looking at home security systems. right now all i have is trail cameras kinda hidden outta sight but they will not alert me.
Great ideas.
Amazing video!
Amazing comment .....Just checked out your channel..keep up the good work my friend

Very informative, thanks!
Hey there! Thanks....I think you'd like the Arlo system....people that travel for work need a way to keep an eye on things...imagine coming home to a break in.....gives us piece of mind for sure...stay warm up there!!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Thanks!!!
Awesome video!
I use these only for areas that I can not run power. The super cheap wyze cams have better software and quality is great imo.
I prefer the Nitecore Tip, My Sisters got one for taking her Dog out at night but prefers her old mag light in her hand in case she had to.
Excellent video. You earned yourself another subscriber
Thanks
Thank you.
All very good things to know and remember! I also believe in personal protection 2nd amendment! I carried for 15 years and never pulled it out but the piece of mind is nice 👍.
String up a long line of small treble hooks around the fence line and you're going to hear em begging for mercy lol.
If we had a fence.......this is all about prevention...prevention of injury..preventing break ins...preventing confrontation....the less people you have in your physical life (meaning physically threatened) the better off you will be
Nice video. I have had a Lorex system for years and have been happy with it. By the way, just out of curiosity, if you don't mind- at what bases were you stationed? I was at Wright-Patterson, Tyndall, and deployed with the 1701st during Desert Shield and Storm.
Great video!
thank you very much

Headed out right now! Motherload of parts just arrived!

It's really simple....and can save you so much heartache. Being a youtuber..I'm exposed to all types....so an ounce of prevention can really do some good for piece of mind
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I have to agree. I live in town and there has been a few robberies in the past in the neighborhood. I like this system for right now. Put them in a few "problem" spots and where I part my vehicles. I think this will be a good theft go away system. Thanks for putting out good content!
I'm using the Blink XT system and I'm really impressed with the system....
Cool! What's the range on that system? I'll have to look it up..pretty much locked into the Arlo system now since I've bought it...but parents need christmas gifts!
Me too love it only con need batteries constantly
We have Kuna, similar to Arlo, but Viasat internet is SO SLOW, AND SKETCHY. that the wireless cameras won't connect without going through a bunch of reconnecting and sometimes never connects. Looking at a wired system but install is a pain. Good advice on the lighting, I like the alternating light trick, good stuff. Thanks.

Thanks for the video I've been looking into cameras for the farm will definitely consider this , love your channel, I just started my own CZcams channel we are a small farm in upstate New York we raise Hereford cattle and bale hay... Thanks for the videos
Thanks Lengel farms
Good tips bro
great idea bud.
Thanks Joseph...keep that lady of your's safe...get her a nice bright light for her keychain....ya never know these days
If the camera is connected to wifi it's always possible that someone else could be watching too. Its happened before. There's tons of incidents of that happening. I just use a bunch of trail cameras and make routine patrols checking each sd card. No need for wifi, but not quite as convenient.
lol Well I guess if folks could figure out my wifi password...and get close enough to the house to connect....they could watch my dogs lol....I use game cams in areas that are remote also....works great....every vehicle that comes down my road is photographed on the way in..and on the way out....I try and be pretty proactive....just like yourself! FYI I love you youtube avitar (photo)....love me some good ol Jeremiah Johnson!
That's my system too.a picture is a picture.the sheriff's department already know who the rogues are in the area.i got burglarized 6 times before they picked up the meth head down the road from me and he was in jail 3 days.best to have a couple good dogs.and a 12 gauge.
Use both, you cannot exactly over do it lol
Josh those are some kool security measures... the camera with an app is awesome.. there are some Akido moves too that would be helpful for personal protection too for anybody..
I've taken some Kempo lessons myself...best to avoid all confrontation and escape with life and limb in any case for sure
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer yes i agree, but this old Army Sergeant has found a few times they don't always want to walk away.. these holds are similar to what a police officer may employ... just enough to control an aggressor! Best wishes Josh to you and Mrs. Stoney Ridge. Take care.
