I love how this video shows the more hidden side of landscape photography. I can imagine we are perceived as the sloths of the photographic community, sitting around in the forest for hours at the time waiting for The Light. It's so nice to see the other side, the chaotic, frantic, 200% energy level side that the muggles rarely see. And, of course, epic photos Adam!
That is exactly right!! Muggles rarely understand how much energy, even a single image, takes to produce.
I've been struggling to get my head back into photography since getting admitted to the hospital with sepsis early june 23. However, when you post a video like this, which is beyond photography, and more about determination and perseverance, it really does give me that kick up the arse which I really need... Thank you 😊 As always, your images are something remarkable 😉
Appreciate you sharing this. Overcoming the hardships in life makes these moments all the more meaningful.
I am not a landscape person but I love watching you guys, you done well and had the patience of old nick, well done Adam that was a wonderful watch, thank you!
I love that you shared the chaos! After many years working in an office, just returning to photography and getting outdoors. Your story was fun, exciting, chaotic, healing any your photos were beautiful. Thank you!
Ah wow. Thanks so much for this comment. Great to hear you're back into it and getting out there.
99% of people would stay in bed morning after that rain... crying how wet they got, how windy it was. Well done!! All strugles with landscape photography in one epic video!!
Thanks. Very much appreciate this comment.
Well done Adam, stunning photos and such a contagious determination ! A rollercoaster indeed, however, with a wonderful outcome!
Thank you for your first responder service earlier in your life. Photography is a calming hobby for me when life goes sideways. I really enjoy your video's, part education & part mental health check.
Well done, Adam! Moody, Turneresque. You have proved once again that persistence is half the battle.
The leaf stuck in the tripod, at the start, tells me all I need to know. Bing it on!
Having just finished watching now, I feel your pain. Getting out and feeling like you've achieved nothing is gut-wrenching - but the waterfall is a good image. And then the chaos of the next day is the complete opposite. As difficult as it is, you made the right decision to pick a scene and stick with it. If you can nail the shot, then move to the next scene, even better.
Great video. You've really nailed the indecision that I certainly feel in those moments.
Thanks Pete.
Very nice photos, well worth the effort.
Thanks so much. Appreciate you watching.
when you are able to able to capture beauty like you have, it is a good day. awesome
Quelle lumière, quelles émotions !!!. Sortir nous fait du bien quelque soit les conditions météo et on ramène toujours une belle image parce que cela nourrit notre vision artistique, on se sent vivant. Merci pour ce partage
Merci beaucoup mon ami.
Good to see your experience there, the 2nd day, on my patch so to speak and you did it justice in those conditions I have to say. 🙌
Was there recently for heather time, but did not got the light I wanted, so another year to wait.
Maaaate! I know exactly what this is like. And just shooting images is challenging enough, but shooting a video as well - including b-roll - faaark. Stressful! You managed to do all three, here, and the results are spectacular. Bravo, Adam!
Some of the golden color mist images look almost otherworldly, wonderful!
Great shots Adam - how exhilarating!
I Think it was your skill as a Photographer Adam that you got anything at all with those difficult conditions, but in the end there was some superb Images to show for your persistence and hours of patience!
You flatter me.....but thanks, I appreciate it.
Awesome perseverance Adam!! Thanks for showing the challenges of landscape photography. It is definitely a genre that isn't always easy and often disappointing. Great job!!
Interesting video, as always. During my army and police service I figured out that there's no point in worrying, or getting upset, about things you can't control. Weather is, of course, one of those things we can't control. So just accept whatever nature gives you and go with it: make the best of it. And there's always another day, if it's that bad!
Love the natural vignetting on your last image really pulls you into the scene. Well worth your effort.👍🙂
I love your enthusiasm, your knowledge. It's very motivating.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
So glad to see you in the same chaotic state as I am on many occasions (sigh of relief on my end 😊). Thanks also for stating the emotional rollercoaster and the desire to have that win. Very recognisable!
Amazing conditions and a great watch. Lovely photos too Adam.
All the chaos was worth it. Results are astonishingly good!
Great video! Of all your videos, I most like the video you take are when you are out somewhere doing what you love most -- taking photos. It's inspiring. Thank you.
I can feel your excitement. Another top video Adam. Thank you.
Just amazing the difference of the 2 days!
Had a bit of a lull with my photography and after watching your videos, I'm totally buzzed to get back at it.
Love the way you show the good with the bad and all the emotion that goes with it. A rollercoaster ride is a great way to describe landscape photography. Fortunately the up or the highs do seem to win out in the end. Another enjoyable watch Adam.
Great Adam, your enthusiasm gets its well earned rewards !
Adam, it shows that persistence pays off. Keep at it and you shall be rewarded. I would have like to see the picture with the rock outcropping in the foreground. Loved the video. 😊
fantastic pis Adam, bet you're glad you did make that effort after all. Epic conditions. one of the best vids I have watched lately TBH. cheers.
Thanks Mick. Really appreciate your words and it means a lot.
some of those shots are brilliant, love the light on the foreground with the contrasting mist in the distance 👍
Spot on, Adam. Way to go powering through miserable conditions then capturing stunning shots the next day. Winning and losing is how i feel with bird photography. I feel defeated and deflated when i don't have at least one bird photo in the can. Its hard to remember that the simple act of getting outside is a major part of the experience.
Hi Adam. I enjoyed the long lens shot of the Waterfall. Great feeling in it.
Thanks mate.
Very challenging when conditions change so quickly but a definite win 👍
Wow Adam thank u for sharing and all so worth it with stunning pictures too
Thanks Julia. Very much appreciated.
Some pretty amazing conditions Adam, great work
Thanks mate
I was going to complain that in your headless chicken moment you forgot the drone, then there it was! Good on you 😃. Two valuable lessons for me.. you gotta be out there to take the pictures ( obvious, but some times hard to do) and second, patience, patience, patience..uk weather changes constantly as your vlog showed Adam. Nice one 👌
Very true. Getting out the front door, especially for sunrise, is often the hardest moment.
I really liked the first waterfall shot! Though the conditions did look brutal.
This is a most wonderful presentation. Thanks!
Such a fun trip! Thanks for bringing us along!
Such a brilliant video Adam 👏👏love the changing weather conditions 👍great photos.
Those are some awesome conditions! Beautiful work
11:09 is my favourite, love it. Well done mate 👍
Jumped the gun! That last one 👌😂
Ha ha. Really appreciate your time. Thanks.
Beautiful place
It really is!
Great video. Epic condition. Incredible compositions.
Great video and some really nice photo's as well. Video felt like we were part of your adventure:) Great job!
Awesome! Thank you!
Stunning drone footage. Inspirational!
You handled the chaos well! Great video!
Great video and lovely images!
Your passion resonates deeply in this unforgettable photoshoot experience! 📸 It's inspiring. What element, in your opinion, made it most memorable? Eager to hear, and perhaps incorporate similar magic into my shoots!
I loved the video, thanks for taking me along!
Isn't it weird how people who don't do landscape photography would probably think it's anything BUT hectic!? But as you've shown in your video it can get pretty manic! That last image by the way..WOW!!
I do very little landscape photography these days, as I am mainly a photographer of people, but I must say that I was with you emotionally and spiritually for those two days, Adam. Brilliant roller coaster of a ride and splendid photos rewarded you for sticking to it. Thanks for taking us on that journey and am so pleased that I checked out your channel once more.
Adam. What astonishing conditions. I feel like you deserved to get conditions like that after being battered by the rain the previous day. I love the photographs, especially the last one and one where a mountain was kind of sandwiched in a gap in the fog.
I saw my first cloud inversion in June from the balcony of our apartment, completely unexpected very early on a Sunday morning. It was about half a mile north of here and the top of it was just about at eye level. Instead of mountains, I had the tops of red-bricked buildings to photograph and a bit of woodland. But I felt blessed that mother-nature had been so kind to me.
Usually when there is a cloud inversion I end up in it, rather than seeing one from above or at eye level. I still hope to see one from above. The Lake District seems to be quite good for that and I guess the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales too.
Beautiful video, it brings across the chaos I recognize on shoots with fast changing conditions. Great photos as usual, the one of the waterfall with all the terraces is my favorite.
I appreciate this video. It's been a while since I've watched one of yours and yes, I feel the same way. I have to get THE shot otherwise it's a waste of time. Which makes me sad. I try to enjoy what I'm doing without the assumption of brilliance and I usually can't. Nicely done in hard conditions!
Fantastic shots. Natural can bring the best surprises and the largest disappointments. Loved the mono shots of the waterfall and landscape. Wonderful. Great video, thanks.
I experience the same feelings you expressed in this video. Everyone of my better photos is a positive experience. I too have an all or none feeling when it comes to creating an image. Each image needs to be great as average or even above average is a let down. I like how you express your feelings and as I watch I can remember myself feeling the same. Thanks again!!
Thanks Robert. Appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts.
Perseverance is the key to any venture, especially a good day of creativity. Your insights are always of great value. Thanks Adam.
Enjoyed how you captured the mood
So unique, I loved this video.
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Every photographer says, "It's all about being out." BUT, if it were only about that, I wouldn't have my camera. Beautiful photographs and I enjoyed feeling your passion for your craft.
Exactly. I think we’re often trying to fool ourselves saying that.
I watched this at about 3am this morning Heaven knows what I was doing watching CZcams at that hour Anyway what an inspiring upload this was. Great, I mean really great images and some sound advice for us all, some days are good, some days are less so. Or as Johnny Bravo put it "Sometimes you have to take the rough with the falling trees" Seriously though wise words from Adam here let the days that didn't work go and the days that did work lift you up Keep trying Keep going
Thanks, very much appreciate your time.
This has made me realise how much I've missed doing photography the last two or three years.
Fantastic photos mate!
Many thanks!
Beautiful video ❤
Thanks Juan. Very kind.
Great video. This is all very familiar to anyone who spends significant time attempting to photograph the landscape of the UK. I am, sadly, hooked on UK night/astro photography, which seems to have very similar ups and downs; well, if I am honest, more downs than ups! But, we do it anyway, because every so often we capture an image that captures our heart.
Great video a you come across perfectly. Keep up the videos ,thanks
Fantastic photos hi from Portugal
Excellent video Adam 👍
Cheers James.
As always I enjoyed your video. I rank this in the top 5 out there
Wonderful images, Adam. What an epic photo shoot!
Thanks Oliver. Very kind
Another amazing video with amazing images. I love your editing style drawing the eye with great use of shadows and highlights.
How did you manage to focus in those conditions? Did you use manual or rely on auto focus during gaps?
Thanks mate. Admittedly they sponsor me, but the focusing is thanks to the canon camera. My eyes are not good enough these days to manual focus. Massively superior to the Sony video camera I use.
Wow wow wow brillant
I'd have "settled" for those first two shots given how awful the weather was. A bit mad climbing down there in those conditions only to have to "scale back" up.... Love this waterfall: doubt I will get there this year. Nice video.
Great video, Adam. I go through the same stuff in my head when I'm out and don't come away with an image. I'm my own worst critique. Planing is a nightmare for me, it's never the same when i get there are what I planned in photopills. Keep up the excellent videos.
Well done Adam in showing such commitment, although as a Welsh man who’s use to torrential rain, you need a better hood 🤣🤣🤣.
Thanks for the images, you’ve shown what can be done in poor conditions
After a many days Adam, totally enjoyed your content. It was really like a roller coaster. The images were, well, good but what I liked most was that it felt like the old you, running gleefully after the images and responding to the changing conditions❤❤
Beautiful shots. I even liked the waterfall. I love it when the weather presents you with such an amazing palette. I’m at Mammoth Lakes in California now. Was expecting high 60s and low 70s F with no clouds, but found mid 30s to low 40s with some rain clouds, and even small hail with strong winds. Was very uncomfortable, but made for great, dramatic shots. Looking forward to a sequel to this.
Epic journey, love the shots, maybe sometimes that's the beauty of the struggle, you win some and you lose some.Always love your content !
Hey Adam . . . Ottawa Canada here. The rain was insane but you sure got lucky the next day. The first shot you put up got my attention, beautiful colours and a nice sense of mystery. You really sound like everyone else who is challenge with getting a photo. We get it. It's not an issue. The + part is when you land something great, it's pure magic. Just keep doing what you're doing. It's great and I really enjoy it. You're authentic.
Incredible photos Adam. In conditions like that it can be quite hectic, which way do I shoot first??
Ha yes. Exactly that.
Beautiful stuff... certainly wish I lived just down the street from you so you could call over and say "Hey Rob, let's go shoot some waterfalls or an epic fell" :) .... Cheers from flat, no-fells, no fog, rather hot, North Texas.
I honesty don't know what I would do on that scenario. I would probably look like a headless monkey trying to capture everything. How did you manage to make the images and still have a video to show for, amazes me. What a day that was. Thanks for sharing.
My heart was racing on your behalf Adam - amazing conditions and some great images.
the danger of winning and loosing is it can suck the joy out of experiencing your art for its beauty art in my opinion is not and should not be a competition but a journey of exporation of yourself and your art
I agree. I often look at people in professional sports at the absolute pinnacle of what they do. Very rarely do they seem content and happy.
Do great works and toil now, to reap the reward and fulfilment later……sometimes much later.
adam that was an interesting video. you were amazing to persevere but your determination gave so,e great images
Thanks Craig, really appreciate that.
Great images Adam and I can understand exactly what you were going through, I have been in those situations many times where you had to rush to keep up with what Mother Nature was throwing at you. But you managed it so well done.
One question, I noticed your centre column up quite high, would this not introduce shake in those conditions??
Some advantage is shooting hand held in such fast changing conditions perhaps? Appreciate its perhaps not so easy to video what you are doing and provide explanation if handheld? In any event, enjoyable and instructive as always. 👏🙏😀
Hi Adam, very nice shots and video. Enjoy really the calm and deep atmosphere of your videos. I enyoy your content very much, it´s quite a very powerfull difference to many other too much gear-related stuff here on CZcams!
My personal opinion: e.g. at 11:00 of this video give it a try to do a "selfie" in style of Mads Peter Iversen (here on CZcams) with your silhoutte at one of the rocks at the edge of the cliff. Would be a very nice improvement to this really great and stunning picture.
I really appreciate your videos very much!
many greetings and keep on doing this!
The big thing is you enjoyed them both, lovely water but day two!
Great vlog Adam. It’s those headless chicken time’s that add to the excitement of landscape photography.
And if lucky enough to capture one of those epic images we’ve all chased, it becomes a WOW moment.
Thanks for sharing again Adam.
Stay safe 🇦🇺
❤
👍🏼
Hello! How do you keep your camera dry when it's raining that much? Or does it not damage the camera? I'm always scared of damaging my camera so can't get some of those epic shots. You've inspired my weekend plans 😊
First day was a tough one indeed Adam but the waterfall image was still a good reward for what you endured and then the second day was one of those days where the commitment to get out again early paid off in spades as your images were cracking, I did like the decorative ballhead with the berries as well 🙂
Would love to see a B&W version of the shot at 8:29
When you walked away from your camera at the 6:30 mark to go and get something from your backpack, I thought it was going to be the end for that rig. I was sweating bullets worrying about your camera toppling over. You had that 70-200 flopped over and your center column extended I thought for sure the wind was going to catch it and send it sailing. Don’t you use the tripod collar on your 70-200 and rotate the body and lens into a vertical position for vertical shots instead laying camera over to it’s side using the ball head to do vertical shots. It would give you greater stability and balance if you used the tripod collar to rotate your camera into position for vertical shots. Anyway, glad nothing bad happened.
An idea take earplugs to waterfall shoots. Or a noise cancelling headphones
Getting the heart rate up for 30 minutes is great for your health. Haha. Madness! Epic shots.
