    This is a extremely simple procedure for me and yet still before I headed out to get started I combed through your video to see what size wrenches to grab. Thanks for these videos. I have been watching them for probably close to a decade to keep my cars on the road. If I would buy my parts before they wore out I would get them from you guys.

    Fantastic video. I canceled my appt at the mechanic after watching this and decided to try it on my own. The worst issue I had was getting the bolt holes lined up. 30 minutes later and I was done. Great service to the common man you provide.

    Thank you so much for your video, it helped me change my fellas alternator. Very easy just like you showed. Although I would like to mention the nut which came with the new alternator was a 12mm, lucky we had a 12mm wrench with us! Thanks dude saved us time and money!!

    There may be a loose wire or loose ground somewhere. Also check the switch and the fuses to see if they are okay.

    If there's a check engine light on in the dash you may want to pull the code to see what could be causing the issue.

    A no start is something that will be difficult to diagnose but I recommend bringing the truck to someone before you start throwing parts at a problem.

    If it hasn't been tuned up in a while, you may want to start with a simple tune up.

    I had an alternator put in my 98 K3500 in Nov and it's been acting flaky...I paid over $260 for the whole deal. With your video I was able to put a new alternator in for just the price of the alternator, $130 and a little bit of time. Thanks.
    PS, In the list of tools put 2 12 mm wrenches. Thanks again.

    @18WheelTerrorist I'm not 100% sure. I'm not aware of or have seen anyone make this kind of a swap. You may want to check out an automotive forum for your vehicle to see if there's someone out there that has done this. They may be able to tell you exactly what you would need.

    @starbuary10 I will be doing this in the future. I have an 86 GMC Jimmy of my own that I am going to upgrade the heads, cam, intake and carb on but that won't be until later in 2010.

    @sansonj72 Sometimes you have to wiggle the alternator around a bit as you turn the bolt.

    Now if you would do a Replacing Power Steering Pump on the same motor I would be set. Many videos and instructions but not for my style assembly and no where as clear of instructions as you do. Again Thanks for the long distance help!!

  • @angelhelp777
    @angelhelp777 Před 3 lety

    I just instaled a new alternator. As I was attaching the wire on the back of the alternator I had planned on using two wrenches just as you said, but noticed that the post sticking out of the back of the alternator was already loose. I turn it one turn clockwise to tighten it, but it just seemed to spin with a very light drag. Since I was unsure if there was a wire attached to the back of it inside the alternator, I stopped attempting to tighten it. I then attached the wire using two wrenches to tighten it to the stud, but the stud itself is still loose. What do you suggest? Is there an easy fix that does not violate the warranty, or do I just need to exchange it? The alternator is under warranty.

    I didn't know where to direct the question regarding a possible electical problem at initial start up of my 1999 Suburban. Recently during a cold start, I turn my key ignition to the on position before starting. I usually wait a few seconds before starting up the engine. Immediately after starting, I smell a burning electrical smell through my interior blower vents for about 5 seconds and then it stops. The smell reminds me of a hot wire burning or hot electrical motor. The interior blower fan seems to be working fine. Would you have any clues on where to check in the interior or the engine compartment? Is this a common problem on older GM Trucks? I drove it for a while this last weekend and when the car is operating for some time, it doesn't smell when I shut the car off for 10 minutes and restart it again. Only when it's the first cold start after sitting for more then 5 hours..

      You may want to check the plug end that plugs into the blower motor resistor and also the blower motor, to see if the connection is melted, or has been heated up and needs to be replaced. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
