    Ambient music:
    As a genre, ambient focuses on creating a mood or atmosphere through synthesizers and timbral qualities. It often lacks the presence of any net composition, beat, or structured melody. Due to its relatively open style, ambient music often takes influences from many other genres, ranging from house, dub, industrial and new age, amongst several others. Since it is a relatively ambiguous term, ambient has no distinct characteristics, and its style can vary a great deal. In essence, it is a term to describe any form of electronic music which puts an emphasis on tone and atmosphere over traditional musical structure or rhythm. Ambient music is often highly conceptual and experimental in style, while it is said to evoke an "atmospheric", "visual" or "unobtrusive" quality.
    Space music:
    Space music, also called spacemusic, is an umbrella term, synonymous with a segment of New Age Music and Ambient Music. It has also been associated with preceding styles of relaxing music such as lounge music, easy-listening, and elevator music... space music can evoke a "continuum of spatial imagery and emotion,"which can be beneficial for introspection, and for developing, through a practice of deep listening, an awareness of the spatiality of sound phenomenon. This type of psychonautic listening can produce a subtle trance-like state in certain individuals which can in turn lead to sensations of flying, floating, cruising, gliding, or hovering... space music is used by some individuals for both background enhancement and foreground listening, often with headphones, to enable states of relaxation, contemplation, inspiration, and generally peaceful expansive moods; it may promote health through relaxation, atmospherics for bodywork therapies, and effectiveness of meditation. Space music appears in many film soundtracks and is commonly played in planetariums.

    I love this synth, so, so much. The virtual analogs of the late 90s are some of my favorite synths and this one towers with it's clarity and flexibility. What a masterpiece!

    This one is a mellow drone improvisation with some interesting sonic textures... enjoy.

      @synth4ever  Před 9 lety

      +The Emjoria Show CZcams wasn't allowing me to reply to your comment for months for some reason, but now I can.... very strange. Anyway, a few questions to consider with regards to getting into synths:
      - are you interested in analog or digital synths?
      - Modern or vintage synths?
      - Do you prefer synths with tactile interfaces (sliders/knobs) for real-time tweaking, instead of programming via a small LCD screen/menu diving?
      - what's your budget?
      I actually wrote a detailed list of things to consider on www.synth4ever.com, under the INTERVIEWS section -- check that out too.

    • @unholylillim
      @unholylillim Před 9 lety

      Hmm, very weird. My budget is extremely small. As a student, money is difficult to come by. I might purchase a retro synth if I ever get the money, or just get some sort of computer software.

  • @roberti6433
    @roberti6433 Před 10 lety

    Very nice! Congrats on your yellow Q 32 voice!!! I much prefer the Q Keyboard interface for immediacy as well. My yellow Q is 16 voices though. I STILL have my yellow Q rack though as a "back-up" because I love this synth so much!! Nice sounds. Have you been trying out the "Xmorph" feature much? It's such a capably deep synth that I passed on a DSI Prophet 12 because I simply feel I have more sonic options with Q and XT.

    • @synth4ever
      @synth4ever  Před 10 lety

      Thanks Robert, I was wondering when you'd stop by. :)
      Yes, this 32-voice Q is certainly a nice one... in great condition functionally and cosmetically, although it cost me a bit more than I expected. I'm in the process of trying to sell the Q rack right now, need to pay off the keyboard. :)
      As for the Xmorph feature... haven't explored it too deeply but it seems similar to the Yamaha AN1x scene morph function (seamlessly switch between 2 patches).
      DSI Prophet 12 also seems very capable but I'm not sure if I'm into the sound... I'll have to play with one at a local music shop sometime to get a better sense.
      For now though, the Q is certainly keeping me busy. I really enjoy the pristine audio fidelity and the multiple oscillator shapes + wavetables, lots of variety to create sounds. Waldorf got it right in virtual analog with this synth, that's for sure!

    • @roberti6433
      @roberti6433 Před 10 lety

      Some people have even gone as far as finding the Q is totally in it's own category in that it's neither TRYING to be a 'virtual analog' nor purely a wavetable synth. The Q is a beast of a synth that definitely has it's own character with an interface that other synth makers should re-examine as far as excellent interfaces for creativity and WIDE variety in sound design.
      Great job and I look forward to more future sound demos from you on the Q. You can also do excellent Karplus-Strong sounds on the Q and the user manual actually explains this in great detail. The Xmorph feature is actually MUCH deeper and interesting than what the AN1X take is on this. It takes you to alien sonic universes.

  • @Wagoo
    @Wagoo Před 10 lety

    How does the full synth compare to the desktop/rack as far as control goes? Love the sound of these, although I'd like the rack for yellowmonsterspace reasons. Great sounding vid! :D

    • @synth4ever
      @synth4ever  Před 10 lety

      Full synth = 58 knobs... desktop rack version = 28 knobs. Big difference for immediacy of control vs. having to push buttons at times to access same parameters on the rack version. Also, size... rack version is small and compact, keyboard is big. :) Despite having fewer knobs, the rack is still intuitive and easy to use and you can tweak on the fly quickly. I'd recommend it if you can't get the keyboard version.

    • @synth4ever
      @synth4ever  Před 8 lety +1

      Hey James, no tutorials but I can tell you that lots of reverb is definitely key, along with long ADSR release times.

    I have been trying to chose between which synth it is i want to buy next, the two options are Waldorf microwave XTK or the Waldorf Q, i am still so unsure of which synth that i should go for of the two. Any suggestions from you that own both the XT and the Q?

    • @synth4ever
      @synth4ever  Před 5 lety

      Well depends, are you only interested in wavetable synthesis or virtual analog? The XT is pretty unique (although there are newer wavetable synths on the market), and the Q is still a fantastic and powerful machine. Both are very versatile but I'd say the Q has more versatility for a wide palette of sounds, whereas XT's strengths is wavetable sounds and experimental palettes. You can't go wrong with either one IMO, just depends on type of sounds and features you're interested in.

    • @snuppssynthchannel
      @snuppssynthchannel Před 5 lety

      @@synth4ever I am mostly interested in wavetable synthesis yes, but what is it that the XTK have that the Q dont have. I know the Q has a comb filter and modulation matrix presets, do the XTK have that?

    • @snuppssynthchannel
      @snuppssynthchannel Před 4 lety

      @@synth4ever Thanks a lot for your response by the way.

    • @synth4ever
      @synth4ever  Před 4 lety

      @@snuppssynthchannel XT and Q both have a mod matrix, the XT doesn't have a sequencer though (Q does). Q has reverb , XT doesn't. XT has tons of wavetables, Q only has 2 and you can't modify them like you can on the XT. XT has various filter modes, Q has few by comparison. Both sound awesome in their own right.
      You'd need to review the manual specs to see how features stack up but its really a question if you prefer wavetable over traditional VA. The XT's interface is designed around working with wavetables, the Q is a standard subtractive VA interface. If you are interested in wavetable synthesis you might also look at ASM Hydrasynth and Modal Argon8 which are coming out.
