Hello John just a heads up, I may be wrong but. The way I was shown to set up a boat trailer correctly was to get the nose load correct first. Every trailer is different but it will have an optimum nose load for stability at speed etc you have to move winch post forward and literally weight the nose of the trailer with like bathroom scales the nose load would potentially be in the 80kg range maybe more maybe less. once that's right you then adjust the rollers to suit and also adjust the rollers as low as physically possible to lower the center of gravity. With the nose load correct and a low center of gravity it will tow absolutely amazing.
Now I'm possibly wrong but that is the way I was shown a taught years ago and its the way I set my boat trailers up and it seems to work perfectly the boat sits low and level etc and you need less water to launch too so a bonus.
Again I might be wrong but the boat looks to far back and your nose load will be too light causing it to want to sway left to right at speed
Good video tho I enjoyed it thanks for posting

I would've flipped over the rollers on the winch so that the shorter one was at the top. I replaced my Indespension trailer for an identical 15 year newer one and it took a fir bit of adjustment to get the rib sitting right. Also I always remove the light board holders at the back out of the trailer rails when I'm launching in case when you've got a big swell the boat doesn't get slammed into them. Lovely trailer.

Phil at Warrior Boats will guide you on the best set up for your SBS. Warrior Boats used to supply SBS trailers with new builds. Keep a close eye on the L brackets holding your mudguards on. They have a tendency to crack, even on a brand new SBS trailer.. The 175 used to be supplied on the SBS1800 by Warrior Boats.

    Hello again John.
I.e nose weight, I just looked back through my book, it's been a long time since I set a trailer up. I got my trailer nose weight by getting the laden weight with everything on the boat i.e gear and fuel and minus 6% you will probably find it's around 60-80kg ISH if you get that set right then adjust your rollers to suit the position of the boat it should sit lower on the trailer and a lot further forward than it does now and your stability will be 💯 perfect and a low center of gravity. It will be a dream to.tow it
Please please double check what I'm saying do some research for your personal set up but now I starting talking about it and checked my book it's definitely right the nose load needs setting first.
The way it's set now you light find it's very bouncy on the back of the van and no very stable with wanting to sway. Sorry of I have gone on to much I just want to help.
    Thanks Dave

Hi John them SBS trailer s are so well built it's a long time ago since I bought one they are so well galvanised but never drill into them. I put my spare wheel forward of the front roller I had a plate made galvanised and put 2 U bolts under the frame and through the plate and bolted the wheel to the plate it worked great and I never forgot the spare 😂 enjoy love your videos take care.

I sympathies with you John, I had to do exactly the same to mine what a nightmare. Adjust a little bit here throws out a lot over there. I bet you wish you had a little more length on that front winch column. I even had to adjust the axles as I had too much weight on the tow bar. Great topic though and well done

Hi John, interesting video. When my 23 foot sailing boat broke the back of its trailer in Grove place slipway in Falmouth due to corrosion I was in a big mess. Fortunately I was given the details of Lizard trailers on the Water - me -Trout industrial estate in Helston. He made a temporary repair to my trailer in order to get the boat off the slip and then built me a new trailer that was set up specifically to my boat. As I wasmt using the boat over winter, he stored the boat in his yard FOC & I paid £1500 in 2014 for a brand spanking new trailer that I didn't have to make any adjustments to. That included a spare wheel & post on the trailer. Might be of interest to you in the future.

My winch strap under 2yrs old broke like you said, that belt is £9! So your spot on why risk £000,s I put a chain the chain stays on till the water is on the tyres. But if it is now standard on SBS it is a recent upgrade and was not when I bought an sbs in 2018. I fed back to Andrew and Lucy at SBS how in the US a chain is a legal requirement. At that point it was still up to owners to know to add a chain as safety back up. Cannot recommend that enough. Cheers

Hi John another great video, couple of things I would like to add to further assist your viewers .... I always move the axle to suit in order to get the balance and nose weight correct. Nose weight is really critical and really affects towing stability and the pressure on your vehicle's rear suspension. Also the trailer rear arms sticking out passed the rear swinging arm can cause issues in a swell or when beach retrieving, as your boat can hit them and they are quite sharp... hope these extra tips help

I am about to do the same with a larger 21' boat and a larger SBS trailer. Being the same brand the setup of my trailer is almost identical but I agree with @C3BFA that not enough attention was placed on setting up the nose weight. If only driving local it's not such a big deal but in my case the first journey is over 200 miles, mostly motorway work. Here I expect to drive at 60mph max so stability is key. Mine is a 4 wheel trailer so it's less prone to swing but still it's worth getting it right.

You know what's funny about that boat? I'm sure its a crazy awesome boat that you bought for very awesome and specific reasons for the ocean but to an american that boat looks like a toy, lol. Its just the way it looks. Its like our toys as kids were modeled after those boats and now we have all kinds of different boats. I live on one of the biggest freshwater lakes in the world which is essentially a big sea and I would love to have a boat like that! You know maybe you should come visit me and we could do some deep sea fishing in my lake for giant lake trout and salmon and steel head??

I don’t like roller trailers for fibreglass boats, they don’t distribute the weight well enough and the boat bouncing up and down on the road can crack the hull. I’d be keeping an eye on that.

Hi John, I know nothing about boats but love your vids. Just a thought but if you lowered both sets of guide wheels to the lowest holes on the back and brought the boat forward a little further then it would probably then touch the front hull wheel right? Also if the boat is sitting lower then would make it more stable when towing? Again no expert so learning by asking…

It certainly looks a good trailer, however. That light unit on the frame side at the back is surely very vulnerable to getting wet when launching if there any waves. Also I don't like the way that the winch handle flies round when you let the boat back, it could be dangerous, doesn't it come off? I really like the sand wheel and safety chain, don't ever be tempted drill holes in it when you mount a spare wheel. A lot of useful knowledge passed on as always.
