yeah just as i thought. the portals are entities themselves, and have no collision. however, the commands can move them, meaning they are movable. and create contraptions have custom collision so it probably would push the portals

if you power the gantry shafts with redstone and then put some rotational power it will rotate the side of the gantry carriage making it easier to activate the rope pulley instead of having a bunch of chain drives
Just so you know If you power a gantry shaft with redstone while it's rotating, the carriage stops moving and instead transmits the rotation through the little rotor that appears on its side

(I made a trainyard crane that picks up a 3x3x5 Item Vault and loads it onto a train using that)

To not make the entire thing move, you can add a sticker to the rope pulley. The sticker sticks to things only if you activate it with a redstone signal. If you power it, it will move the whole thing. But you can let it go by deactivating the sticker.

If you added a train into the mix you could make a factor that makes different parts of the building, and then a train brings it to the crane. The crane would then pick the section up and place it where you want. The. All you would have to do is move the crane and the train tracks so you could build the next building!

With the cannon create addon thingy mod, you should make a turret, maybe a plane with turrets? Maybe a battleship with a turret? Or an old timey pirate ship with cannons coming out from the sides.
This is the kind of stuff I want to see in modded Minecraft. And I want it to actually have a purpose! Like, imagine you have to move a ton of materials up to the top of a tower, or you have to build the tower bit by bit, or... something. It just... there's not practical use for cranes, and it makes me sad...
put a building underground and cover it up with a bathroom areaa that has a fence (you might know where dis is going) and then glue it all up and pull it up now you got the power of twoooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I've found a gantry crane works a lot better. You get the X working, you get the Y working, you get the Z working, you good. Also, the latest Forge version fixes the crashing.

nope all cranes have a turntable, this is completely unrealistic. No crane that i know of rotates the entire tower.

You could add one of those sticker blocks on the end of the pulley and control it with a toggle so you can detach the payload 👌

This was just a bug in version 0.5 of Create, not incompatibility. It was fixed in 0.5.0c and onwards though ( the newest version when writing afaik )
