My son is a Volunteer Fireman in Tennessee. He just got a full time job as EMT few weeks ago..And he gonna turn 22 next month. Proud of him.

I was a member of an all-volunteer underwater recovery team in Massachusetts for 20 years. I wish we had the equipment they have. We had to make do with what we had. We practiced going under the ice. Of course, we were always in recovery mode which was sad.
As a fellow Chicagoan I can say seeing these guys work in the winter when it’s snowing and in the summer when it’s hot especially during the air and water show it is a true spectacular experience and sight!
Heroes if I ever saw 'em!! Respect to all first responders!!!

That inflatable ice boat thing seems like a brilliant invention, it would have so many uses.

In my community we just lost someone under the ice. She tried to rescue her dog. Our dive team is all volunteer and they are in recovery mode now. It's been heart breaking. Heartfelt thanks to all who do this.

4:25 How to know that icy lake is not here in Scandinavia: That sun is way too bright even for late winter. We're on the same latitude as Alaska. (Gulf Stream keeps us warm during summer)
The unspoken reason behind the "get behind them" is the natural survival instinct. The victim will push you under the water instantly and hold you under there to get a breath of air. It's not malicious, just basic survival instinct.
Good First responders are special people, we wouldn't have civil society without them.
Hats off to these brave men and women!

Thanks for doing this. It brings back memories of being on a local dive team, and doing ice rescue training in the St. Louis Mo area. However, we had several inches of hard ice when doing our training. We used a chain saw to open it.

Same vest I have in my water rescue bag at the station different setup from what we run. One of the few certs Im missing for water rescue is ice rescue interesting to see how a paid fire department does this and their equipment. Surprised they kept the class v pfd rescue ring on you Mike.
