This is the exact type of zoo keeper everyone should have!!!! Put the animals health and happiness as the only concern and allow "displaying" them as a secondary consequence.
without zoos, most people would never get to see what these animals look like. They are making much more natural habitats now than they used to.
I completely agree. If you are going to pull these animals out of the habitat u need to recreate there habitat as close to the original one as possible.
100%
@@watchgoose I remember the gorilla and big cat house of the Memphis Zoo circa 93. Literal prison cells. The Memphis zoo is now one of the top 10 zoos in the U.S. With some of the most beautiful exhibits. It's pretty astounding the differences we've made in just a few decades.
I totally agree.
He may be a "jerk" to the humans at the zoo, but to the animals, he's a savior and a friend. They need more people like him. Amazing episode Mike.
I prefer to call us mankind over "human". Human implies we are humane in our treatment of each other and everything in the world around us, we are not. In my not so humble opinion.

LOVE this episode. I'm really glad those animals have such a great jerk to take care of them.
Because it is the right thing to do; the only life motto you need! Thank you Mike.
This guy is awesome! Putting the animals first. Thanks for sharing this video. Those penguins are adorable.
I work with that team and they are the best! If you're in Baltimore, come see the Zoo, you'll love it!
Great episode on Penguin and Elephant preservation the right way! Great takes on what a "Zoo" is supposed to be...
What a beautiful story, and an amazing man putting his heart and soul into his work. Well done.
Every zoo needs a zookeeper whose first priority is the animals! I wish we had this kind of guy in the Midwest.
Awesome episode! Can't help but totally agree with menwithven8114. And we need more people like Mike (zookeeper) managing zoos! Thank you Mike Rowe for sharing this wonderful story.
This is where zoos need to be. I still remember zoos in the 70s as simply cages. This man is moving that pendulum to the other side, away from animals as entertainment.
If more Zoos did this I'd be absolutely willing to go more often. I love my local zoo, because they've put in an amazing amount of effort into the care of their animals. Their enclosers are slowly being updated from what they have, and they have sort of a foster Zoo that cares for each group as their encloser is being worked on. Their team of care takes for each group is a mix of people who have no degree, or tons of them, but they all have one goal, protect, preserve, and admire.
Zoo keeper is the definition of Dad not wanting the dog but then falls in love with the dog. In all seriousness, showing these animals proper love, respect, and kindness, and putting the health of these beautiful beasts first and "Showing" them off is a secondary concern to him. Love it.
Thank you for showing the world what I have known for 66 years....Penguins are amazing and they will ALWAYS make you smile.
This is awesome! The animals' health and well being comes first as it should always be. Thank you for making a positive difference in these beautiful creatures' lives.
I wish airfare wasn't so expensive--I'd take my kids to see this zoo, and many other place Mike Rowe features. But, thanks to the internet we at least get to learn a little something even though we can't actually go there. Thanks, Mike!
I’m a volunteer at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens at the Animal Nutrition Center. We prepare diets for most of our animals. Thanks for this great video.
Hey Mikey, I liked this episode a lot. Especially the "Pen-Gu-ins", too
Mikey you're certainly the "Ambassador" of the entertainment world.
Thank you for all that your crew and you do, Mikey. Cheers, Mate
May God bless him in everything he does, I hate Zoos also, I am glad to see he is changing things.
This was a great and eye opening episode, the fight is on.
Keep up the good work Mike and crew!
Mike Rowe and penguins, one of my favorite animals, equals a top quality video. 🐧
I love the face that children fall in love with animals they’d have zero knowledge of and consequences are that they grow to care about what happens to them.
Otherwise zoos are sad. But the saving Grace is getting folks to care. They can’t care if they don’t know. ❤
What a great episode. That guy is a real gem, not a jerk, for all those animals.
What a great video. I smiled the entire time. Beautiful ❤
Mike is right penguins are awesome... awesome in smelliness ,i saw penguins at Sea World in Qld, Australia around 1995 and that stench of fishy bird poop has been seared into my olfactory organ for life. LOL .Great work as always ,Safe travels to all cast and crew that make that Mike Magic. 😁
There one of those travel channel shows where the journalist was dropped off by helo at a penguin researcher's hut. They could smell the Adelie P colony 2 km away.
I wish Mr McClure would write a small book about what the elephants have taught him. He could just record his thoughts and hire a ghost writer. The world needs to know how animals can change your life.
Salute to him for his work. Now can we use the same mentality towards fixing humans.
Thank you Mike, I admire your animal courtesy and respect, thank you for all you do
One of my favourite episode, I think! Thank you, Mike!
Oh, I *loved* this, Mike! What an exceptional group of people. Blessings! Jackie in upstate NY
Mike Rowe did a great job zookeeper for the day all zoo staff in america. Thank you Mike.
He’s a gift! (Love you too, Mike!)🐘🐧
That is too cute. They line up to eat and then move on. You just never know who your going to meet everyday. That is awesome.
It is only through embracing and celebrating change that we grow as people. 🤔 ❤
I love how these videos look and feel like "Dirty Jobs" ❤
"How could you not love them?..... Well they can bite you and then poop on you" 😂 omg!!!!!!
I would pay my life's salary to walk around for an entire day with Mike the zoo keeper. And I hate to even call him a "zoo keeper", more of an animal caretaker. Absolutely amazing man for animals
More people like him to care for and protect the animals is what really is needed remember God put animals on earth to we need to love and get along with them as well as people
Awesome segment, love the integrity and devotion of this zookeeper
I love this zoo keeper!! He's got a great attitude. Even the simple things he's said has helped to make me think differently on my small farm in Kansas.
Thanks y’all. I feel the same about zoos and circuses.
Love to see this! I hope his attitude is catching.
Thanks for showing this wonderful zoo to us. Now I know that if I'm ever near the area, I will make it a priority to visit there. What a great zookeeper.
Thank you Mike for all you do in bringing good people to the shows you are in. I really appreciate the job you do. Happy New Year to you and your team! ❤😊
Absolutely beautiful. Those lovely creatures must be taken care of in the way they deserve and beyond. It's fantastic to see someone doing it right and for the right reasons.
Thank you Mike…both of you!
Love this story and the penguins are awesome❤
Amazing episode, Mike!❤
Awesome episode, Mike and crew!
Absolutely INSPIRING!!! Thank you!
Great episode and as a new viewer I have many more to check out!
What a great video!!! Thanks Mike!
Wow! Good for the zoo hating zookeeper. He probably wouldn’t like this, but his story would make a great movie, in my opinion.
This just makes the most sense. When the humans that work in the zoos put the animals first the animals appreciate it and show it. I believe that is what us patrons of the zoos want to see. Animals that are happy, well taken care of, living in habitats that are taken care of by people who care and put the animals first.
This was an absolutely beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it with us. ❤
Ya' know... This is the best fk'n show hands down! ALL of them are so good. Especially the episode of the Olympic curling family.
Amazing episode Mike! ❤
This was a really good episode, Mike.
Love it. Thank you.
There is precious little good news out of Baltimore, Mike. THANK YOU so much for letting us know about this conservation zoo & who is dedicated to it. ❤
So cool, so cool! Iluv that metaphor of " were all slowly melting"
Thanks for this. Awesome
I love it when you come back to Baltimore!❤
Let me see, Mike says that they are lovable followed exclamations of "Owe! Owe!" Okay I can follow that.
Bloody ell, been waitin for the next one 😃
Come to our Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. One of the best in the world!!!
Kudos to this special man ❤❤❤
Great episode!!
An awesome guy who is unwilling to bend when it comes to doing what is right, to bad he not a politician. Awesome wish the world had more like him!
I LOVE this episode !!!!!!! ✌🏻♥️
Fantastic!👏👏👏💕
When I saw that incredible penguin habitat I let out a heartfelt “Holy expletive deleted.” It’s amazing! Great video!
I believe that most zoos have now adopted this philosophy of conservation and animal husbandry. The ones that haven't aren't attracting many people these days. Great to see that it's happening in Baltimore.
Well Done!! My kind of zoo keeper
.😊❤
This makes me want to go to the zoo but not in winter lol
Love this!
LOVE this zoo keeper !!! Thx Mike, oh, LUV u too
This has me crying amazing
Way better than the penguin enclosure at the San Diego Zoo or Penguin Encounter ar Sea World San Diego. Years ago, they made a penguin wear strap on roller skates for the amusement of the public.
I usually just listen. This was great as always but this was epic.
Love this guy
I love this guy.
Awesome to see someone who truly cares for the animals. Now I have to travel to Baltimore to check these animals out. Just wish I could bring my Jack Russell 😆
Very cool video. We were introduced to every worker except for the young lady 4:20 and we were kind of introduced to the PR Lady 10:58 Jane.
Another excellent story.
By the way...... a suggestion for a story. I would love to see Mike do a video about autistic kids and the challenges they and their parents face. As the number of kids afflicted with this has risen over the years, it deserves some attention.
Well done!
Insane respect!
I’m so glad that someone is finally doing what’s right for the animals. Thanks Mikes!!!❤
Thanks Mike
Keep up the good work
Amazing zoo keeper
This Guy needs an award !!!!
Liked this one. Wish there was more info into the elephant enclosure n management.
Alright boys, cute and cuddly, cute and cuddly.
Great Zookeeper
I never thought of that. I'm adaptable. I like 98% of my jobs. Especially where I'm at now. Glass house. Manufacturing food glass. It's usually the management that's always bad. If you can avoid them you'll be fine.
We really need him at our zoo. I used to love our zoo (to a point, it needed improvements). There used to be space for the animals, even if it was sparse. Now, they've taken all the animals they had and practically stacked them on top of each other to take up less space (less than half the space as before) even though they made some of the space prettier. You've got (prey) zebras packed in a small area with gazelle and other similars (I couldn't see them very well to know what all was in there), and that area is below the walkway for the solid crowd of people (predators) leaning over the railing to try to see anything. Predators attack from above, you don't put predators above prey like that in a tightly confined area where no one can even see them and the animals are constantly stressed. The crowds are so bad now that everything's crammed together that you can spend all day and only see the heads of the giraffes (they even have twice as many giraffes in half the space). Not fun. The big cats did get upgraded from a small indoor cage the size of a living room to the a slightly larger indoor cage the size of a double-wide mobile home. Can't see them at all. I used to go to the zoo to work on my photography a lot, and enjoyed seeing the animals being themselves and at least somewhat happy and not very stressed. I've been only once since they completely changed everything in the zoo, and I hate it with a passion. The very few animals I could see did not look happy in the slightest, people weren't happy, it was loud and obnoxious, and had to be horrible on the animals' hearing as well, causing stress. It's now the worst zoo I've ever been too in my life. You can't even stand still for a moment or even lift your arms to pick up your camera to take a picture before you're shoved around, and at least half the animals are behind highly reflective glass that people are pressing up against constantly. Hate it, hate it, hate it. If I had the guts, confidence, experience and degrees (they don't hire anyone without the right degrees and experience), I'd follow Mike and try to get hired there to make it better.
This is the Only type of keeper we should allow.
This man gives humanity hope ❤
