  • So you want to learn all about Zotero? Let's get started with an introduction to the main features of Zotero 6 and 7.

I cover why you want to use Zotero in the first place: it makes things more efficient, and it's completely free.
    To get Zotero: www.zotero.org/
We look at different ways to get references into Zotero, mostly from websites that have relevant information, like journal websites, libraries, bookshops, pre-print servers, or repositories. It's just one click. I show you how to add PDF documents, how to import references from a BibTeX or RIS document, or using the DOI. In rare cases, we'll want to add references manually.
For organizing references, we look at folders (a.k.a. collections) and tags. Sub-collections and colourful tags are included. I show you how to use the advanced search and saved searches, and we'll see how the integrated PDF reader is very helpful to create notes from annotations. We look at the special folders in Zotero, like merging duplicates or unfiled documents.
Collaboration using group libraries is covered, and I show you how to cite your references in a word processor like Microsoft Word or LibreOffice. We look at different reference styles and modify those references.
Almost all screen captures were created using Zotero 7 beta, but everything covered here applies to Zotero 6 just the same. Background picture by lil artsy under the Pexels free licence: www.pexels.com/photo/person-h...

Do you think Zotero's "Insert Note" option in Word can be useful for inserting the text of a quote?

Thanks for checking in! The note feature definitely has potential for inserting quotes. What seems to work best is quotes from text you have highlighted in the PDF: (1) Highlight text you want to quote in the PDF, and (2) choose "Add Note from Annotations". If you then (3) add this note in Word, all the text you highlighted appears, but the cool thing is that the reference _and_ page number are also added! Just delete the other quotes/parts of the notes. Please let us know if you have a better workflow.
