Louis was a writer for Conan in the early days and also for SNL shortly, then Chapelle. The beginning days of Conan was when he was broke. He blew up shortly after. Conan would let him do his stand up when they ran out of guests. Lol

I'm sure that years ago (even before this bit) CK went thru this. I know that as a young rocker in Hollywood and Pasadena I went thru the same things. This is still a classic bit.

Louis started in the later 80s, it was after 2000 until he really became a known name. He was on a couple multi-comic shows in the 90s, and was a writer for Conan in the early to mid 90s, but he was struggling until around 2002 or 2003.
"Why Kids Are Stupid" is another great one from Louis!
His bit about adopting a stray dog from a shelter has never not made me cry laughing

His steady appearances on Opie and Anthony really helped him get huge. He was always an incredible guest, and he’d there for anywhere from a half hour to a whole 3 hours with them. You can hear some of the stuff that he said in conversation that he later turned into full blown bits. I think every single appearance has been uploaded to CZcams and if you’re a comedy connoisseur, it’s totally worth listening to. Plus Anthony and Jim Norton are funny as hell and many times Patrice is in studio with them as well, and those are just legendary. Some of the funniest things ever said by anyone

@@thewind6047 it’s why Louis is an all-time great. That was not only hysterically funny, but it was ballsy. A certain segment of the population is never gonna get how funny that is or the context, he hit a grand slam on something that a lesser mind could’ve struck out badly on. I love how Patrice starts to laugh before he even says the line because he just knows it’s gonna be good. It was the best line in the history of a show that had many incredible lines (Ant’s don’t be alarmed ladies and gentlemen, Dave Attell’s line during the Patrice memorial come to mind)

The ticket stub economy is incredibly profitable. People pay 15$ at a movie theater for what amounts to essentially an index card, or a post-it, or a business card.
You’re profiting like 100,000x your costs. And the cost of a post-it is probably like 0.00015 USD
His 1st show was on HBO around 05-06...he was still relatively unknown and his show was canceled. It wasn't until a few years after that and his show on FX became huge and he started making tons of money. Jim Norton was absolutely hilarious on that original show, was where I first saw him

Louis CK, he just wasn't swept in the me too movement. He did the deed he was blamed of doing, but it was basically him doing things to himself while someone else was in the room. That's it... He did it. It doesn't make him any less funny or great at his job. Maybe finding a new young intern might prove to be an issue, but his comedic brain is on point and that hasn't changed or is going to change due to anything cancelling related. In my books he has paid for his "crimes" and is good to go for the time being.

Louis on Opie and Anthony asking Donald Rumsfield if he is a lizard person is the best radio bit ever. This is what he thinks helped him become a headliner, a real early viral video.
Louis CK was most certainly not rich back when this was filmed, he was probably making a living but not rich

Yeah, Louie had a bit of a fanbase at this time, and he was a somewhat well-regarded writer and comedian by people who knew anything. But he was nowhere near mainstream successful yet here, and his 2001 movie Pootie-Tang was a huge failure. So yeah, he was probably quite familiar with being pretty broke around this time.

It's funny because people assume that the guy with the microphone standing on stage must be earning a lot to do it when it's simply not true. Unless you're Bill Burr, Kevin Hart, or DC, and even they started off someone just picking up open mic nights, getting booed, learning from those ahead of them, etc. I have no doubt Louis CK was poor as fuck

wow i dont remember louis always being around. i only remember him blowing up in the late 2000s or early 2010s when i think he had some specials on comedy central, and then his show on FX

10:00…not lying…_I was in 8th grade back in 97 and the night before had eaten a couple leftover turkey sandwiches from Thanksgiving and a ton of brownies etc…the very first class I had the next morning was gym where we ran a :”Turkey Trot”…which was a mile run….as I was into my 2nd lap the bubbling in my gut started..my gym teacher told me I looked pale and to go sit down, I declined….as I started the 4th and final lap it happened…looked like I had gravy running down my pale Scottish legs…I then was driven detention for trying to chase a girl around whilst covered in shit, lol

Ck didnt really blow up untill the 2010s. He was pretty much a struggling comedian for most of his life and career. He has had opportunities earlier but no mainstream success. Such as the putty tang movie. Then he got me too'd at the height of his popularity.
