I will be sharing with you my techniques on how to apply the dye with little to no mess, plus my tips on how to maintain a solid black hair color with minimal fading & damage to hair.

Honestly, this is going to sound crazy but I have tried EVERY box color under the sun to keep my hair black and the one that make my hair darker than the darkest night is the $3 revlon one! It literally is so black its insane!!!!

+Bailey Van Der Veen I second what she said! I have had black hair since I was 13 and now I am 28 and always use the cheap $3 box from Dollar General I think it is the Revlon one lol it stinks and is probably not good for your hair but when it comes to buying boxed hair dye it is the blackest black you will ever get! It also does not paid like other hair dyes too. I have really dark brown hair naturally but I have always loved black way more and I'm starting to get gray hair as well the past two years and the cheap $3 box works better than any other I have bought from a store. And actually to be honest now that I think about it I've never got my hair professionally done when it comes to the color black only the few times I strayed from black and got red streaks put in LOL

It's a little bit more expensive, but the Schwarzkopf Midnight Black is really good on my hair. I have really fine curly hair, so it breaks and gets frizzy really easily, but I've found that this dye isn't as drying and it has that nice cool undertone - cool but not blue. I also like their glosser. If you deep condition every week, you can mix the black gloss into it and it makes it look more vibrant because it distributes a little color. Be sure to wear gloves though and an old towel because it will stain.

Love from a hairdresser leave it on at list 45 minutes for grey after 45 minutes color stops working so it's like having gel in your hair it will not effect your hair in any way .. and watch how much longer it will last 👍🏻👍🏻

Personally Loreal box dye made my hair so dry. I tried it 2-3 times. But I am sticking with palette schwarzkopf blue black, the one that covers 100% grey.
That one can also make my hair damaged, but when I put a little water and olive oil in the mix it does not damage and it does not fade. But I do have to mix them by hand and use a brush,in my case a tooth brush, I find it easier..and it is not messy.
But I do have to use 2 boxes when I do dye all of my hair not just my roots, but that is once a year. I dye my roots every 2-3 weeks, my hair grows fast and it is very light brown, most of it.

L'Oréal feria is literally the worst for black dye. I've been dying my hair black for ten years and every time I try to give that dye another chance it fades the first time I wash my hair after dying it. So many other people have experienced the same thing so it's not just my hair. Revlon and nice n easy are the best for drugstore hair dye!

You should definitely try Sally's or order online if you don't have one online. The colors will stay longer depending on what you get and you can purchase an easy developer that's good on your hair. Also, you would be able to get Demi and semi permanent dyes that will be less harsh on your lengths that are already black. You see, it's best to put the permanent dye on your roots and then when you're a couple of minutes close to rinsing you would put the rest on your lengths. When you decide to lighten your hair you will see the damage that the constant application of permanent black boxed dye on your ends did when you strip and bleach it, and the follicle is bare. Def try to refresh your ends with maybe a semi permanent like manic panics Raven or Demi's like Ion Color Brilliance or Age Defy.

I've been dying my hair black for the last 6 years. I even wash my hair everyday. never fades. I use Ion color brilliance from sally beauty supply. only ever need to re-dye is when my roots grow out. I found box dyes fade within 2 weeks and don't recommend them. Shampooing should never be done directly after you dye. wait 2 days if you can.

How do you retouch your black hair in between dyes when it's a little faded and looking slightly but noticably duller yet not enough to actually redye it all? Do you use a mixture of black dye and conditioner to retouch it to get back to the depth of black it was? If so, how much black dye do usually add to your conditioner?

I have hair down past my ass and it is super thick, so thick that I have to use three to four boxes of hair dye to saturate my whole head!
So and my tip to you about dying your hair at home and not making it tangled in the process and parting it and getting every hair saturated with dye is:
Before you actually even bust out your hair dye is to brush your hair out thoroughly and section it off with the cheap little black plastic rubber bands. You know the tiny ones that you get in a big pack?
I part my hair 4 times and put them in a ponytail for each section. And then I take one ponytail out starting in the center of my head and section that off into 4, kinda like in four squares. Like it's almost like cornrows but you're putting them in tiny ponytails instead of braids.
So 4 sections for the whole head and then in each section 4 tiny ponytails.
Starting the big four sections from the front part of your forehead to the nap of your neck. LOL
I'm sorry if I suck at explaining this.
But when you go to actually dye your hair you just take the tiny ponytails out individually and dye that section itself starting at the side of your head. It is just the easiest way I have found to do it.
When the first section is done at the side of your head you can twist it up kinda like a bun and put a clip in it to hold it back away from the rest of your hair and face. And once you start you can just take every section that you've made and put all of them in a big ponytail so that way if you're working on one specific section the rest of the hair is pulled away and out of your face and away from the actual hair dye. LOL
Once again I'm so sorry if I'm not explaining this well! I'm just trying to help because I know I have struggled in the past myself!
I have taken too long and burnt the living s*** out of my scalp because the hair dye was on it way too long and I didn't get the ends of my hair dyed yet! Which was a whole host of b******* because I had to rinse it out and start all over again at the ends of my hair it was just a f****** s*** show! Lol
Also I have found investing in a actual hair dye bowl and hair dye brush is worth every penny! You can go to Sally Beauty and get both for cheap! Hair dye bowls that you can buy actually have measurements inside them and have a handle. You would be really surprised how those two tiny little things make the biggest difference ever! And if you have never used a hair dye brush to paint on the dye I swear to God it's life change it! LMFAO!
I really do hope this helps but if you have any questions feel free to ask away! And I'm sorry it was so long! 😄😂😆

Not going to write a hate comment about the box dye as I'm sure you've heard it all before but please shampoo and cleanse your scalp after every color service. You can literally clog your hair follicles and develop alopecia!

It's actually very damaging to your hair and your scalp if you leave it in and just rinse it out! I promise I'm not trying to be a smart-ass I just hope someone didn't miss inform you and you possibly damage your hair!

If you go to a professional stylist they will have their own color line they prefer to use and legally they aren't allowed to use products that aren't professional on clients or anything the client brings in from home. There could be a law suit if something went wrong hence why most professionals won't do it. Go in for a consultation for pricing and ask what they will do to your hair to get the look you want.

I have had my eye on this exact boxed dye! Do you find that it caused any increase in hair fall for you?

    • @baileyvanderveen
      @baileyvanderveen  Před 7 lety +1

no i do not find that!! nothing incredibly different than my daily hair loss in my brush hahah

Marie Ostreiko I wouldn't use the Féria dye if I were you. I've heard really awful reviews about this certain color. I've heard it fades really quickly.

Oh, I wouldn't mind if it faded. Just so long as it doesn't make my hair fall out any more than it already does!

Katherine Martinez If you do that it tends to explode out of the end when you rip the tip off. At least for me!

French hair dyes are shit, to be honest. They wash away from my hair in a week and then it looks disgusting :3 but... One day I found Joanna Naturia 243 (Poland). The best hair dye ever, even though it's more of natural, not blue black :3
