Hiya, thank you for the video! is it possible to connect multiple cameras for a zoom call via this Elgato Camlink if I buy a dual port extender and feed that into this camlink? Or would it interfere and be too glitchy?

    • @videoforentrepreneurs

Unfortunately not to my knowledge. It is simply taking the singular HDMI feed and displaying it, much like a video game system hooked up to a television.

you could stream multiple cameras to a single call. 👍

I see só many people putting the file format to 1080p instead of 4k.. but why? I did some tests myself and putting it on 4k with the elgato camlink 4k and it looks so much cleaner. Even though yes, it gets downsampled to 1080p while streaming to Twitch, still looks wayyy better than the 1080p format setting. Just curious.

I am always streaming with the end user in mind and not everyone has the ability to stream 4K. In my world compression is bad so I avoid it at all costs. If your setup is working well and you notice a quality difference, definitely keep streaming in 4K!
In my work with clients we see more downside then up, so we keep it safe at 1080 HD.

Great video. I work in I.T. consulting and just purchased this camera. I couldn't get the Camlink software to work on any of my laptops (all running win 11). I don't think Elgato does a good job of maintaining drivers for their legacy products like the Camlink. I purchased the Prompter too but it runs on the same software desktop app as the Camlink. I did get the camera connected via USB 3 but the resolution is only 720p. I'll look for another hdmi capture card. Elgato list the Camlink as a legacy device on their site so I doubt they're putting much effort into software development for the product. Thanks again.

Thanks for a great question! The USB it great for powering the camera, but the quality loss of capturing the image going over the USB cable as opposed to the pure signal you get over HDMI is almost night and day. The USB signal is still considered “HD” but the resolution loss comparatively is noticeable.
Now don’t get me wrong, the USB signal isn’t complete garbage… BUT - the difference is so noticeable that I have all my clients and student buy the Camlink when they work with me.
Here is a great short little video showing the difference. The bigger the screen you watch the comparison on the more you see the resolution difference. Comparison starts at 0:37

Great question, I actually just got this question yesterday while doing a studio build in person for a client.
In my personal opinion 4K is simply overkill and sets you up for easily avoidable problems.
      1. Many computer won't allow you to capture 4K even if the signal coming in is 4K
      2. Capturing in 4K is relatively harmless but streaming in 4K takes a lot of horsepower. CPU horsepower, Graphics Card horsepower, and Internet horsepower.
      3. On the viewers end 95% of people won’t even notice a difference. They would have to be using a 4K screen big enough to notice the difference and also have super fast WiFi on their end to get the full experience.
Because I help people look and sound great on camera as frictionless as possible, I opt for the safety of streaming in HD.

Basically… I want to do some singing videos just at my desk so I’ve just bought a nice audio mixer that’s going to handle all my audio needs without needing to use logic on the Mac. I want to be able to record in 4k from my Sony camera and just record from the MacBook. I’m going to use something like Ecamm or OBS to record. I want good quality recording with 4k video and great audio from my mixer. I’ve been just recording on the camera then taking the sd card out and then transferring the footage to the Mac, importing to fcpx and then I’ve been exporting audio from logic and syncing the files in Final Cut. All very long winded and awkward having to keep taking the card out the camera and then exporting audio and syncing etc. Hope that makes sense?

Thank you so much for the kind words. 🙏☺️
I prefer a capture card because the quality is noticeably higher than the USB feed the camera offers. But if recorded content is the direction you are going then straight to an SD card is superior of course.
I record my CZcams videos to SD and my social videos via capture card for speed and flexibility.

      @videoforentrepreneurs  Před 6 měsíci +2

Great question, I actually just got this question yesterday while doing a studio build in person for a client.
In my personal opinion 4K is simply overkill and sets you up for easily avoidable problems.
Capturing in 4K is relatively harmless but streaming in 4K takes a lot of horsepower. CPU horsepower, Graphics Card Horsepower, and Internet horsepower.
      Apologies for the Novella. 🤣

Now although there is a quality difference, I am not saying the USB signal is total garbage. But the difference is noticeable and only degrades over stream.
