Photoshop will soon harness the power of Artificial Intelligence into their program by way of Generative Fill. Easily remove objects, use inpainting to generate new elements right in your image, use outcropping to effortlessly extend your image canvas, or replace the background all together with Photoshop's new AI powered Generative Fill features.
Kristina will also cover speeding up any task you have, by using the contextual task bar.

Thanks so much for your videos. You are a wonderful teacher. I appreciate your clarity and your speed of delivery is perfect, not too slow or fast.
this means a lot! Thank you so much!
Great job covering the new features. They are clear and accurate and appreciated.
Thanks!
Thank you Kristina for the 4 vids today. Very helpful. I'd love to tell you what I am doing with this. Just downloaded the book. All the best.
enjoy the read!! Its full of useful tips!
We can't trust photographic evidence of ANYTHING anymore. These are so good! You've blown my mind about what can be done now with a few loose strokes and a descriptive vocabulary. I love your teaching style -- clear, concise and quick.
Thank you so much!
Growing up they said don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see. You can't even do that now days - don't believe anything you see unless it's in person and then still question it.
@@JimSewell You're right. There are some "what are theys" running around out there! Sickening!
SO helpful using one program using AI while creating! Love the emerald dress with the castle, incredible!
I know ! Its definitely going to save time!
Kristina, thanks for all the new videos on Photoshop Beta. Everyone is doing Beta tutorials but for me, a photoshop beginner now that I'm a retiree, your videos are the easiest of to follow because you explain cause (the tool and location) and effect. Others just rush and we, mouse over followers, can't figure out what is being done. Thanks again for the videos and I did subscribe this week, too. Ps advice for your book, do like in CNN interviews and have it on your desk standing proud toward the camera.
I definitely will! Time to buy a stand!!
@SharkPixel and I just found out Adobe is going to limit the Generative into credits per user when the Beta end. Until then we don't have limited amounts with Beta. I'm applying your tutorials this week as fast as I can before it gets restricted
Incredible!!! I prefer the removing everything and changing backgrounds! And extending backgrounds!
very cool!
I especially loverd your detailed descriptions.
I'm so glad!
Thanks for these four videos!
you're very welcome!
Just started using this! Is everyone else putting their errands aside and obsessively trying this????My plan is to shoot in the old fashioned film style and also incorporate this new tech for my new work...best of both worlds! Good luck everybody. Like it or not AI is here to stay! Thank you for an excellent video ...ill subscribe...I also fixed a user issue from watching this....pretty and smart...is that fair?
I have just joined your family, fantastic video and even if it wasn’t I would still wanna to watch you clearly very talented. Thanks for sharing. ❤
thanks for joining!! Welcome!
you are such a good teacher I can even understand it
haha! I was that student once, Dan! Thats why I teach the way I do!
My favorites are removing and adding tools.. Thanks for very informative videos among others..
You’re quite welcome!
Kristina,
All of the new AI features are amazing. I love your coverage of the new features. One of the things I would like to see from you is a video that discusses on-line requirements of AI features. With Generative especially, internet access is essential. AI needs to have something to work with. But this also applies with the other AI features. AI Select Object also uses an internet connection to work optimally. If you are not connected, it will work but may not work as effectively. Which AI features require internet and which ones can work without internet and how well will the AI features work with out internet? I understand that Adobe is taking the highroad with Generative AI and only using their Adobe stock images to avoid copyright issues and to make sure artists are compensated. So that is nice. It also means I don’t have to worry about generating something that is copyrighted. I would like to see a discussion what the internet connection requirements are.
Excellent and succinct presentation. . . thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
One thing about this is that this doesn’t replace photographers. The average person isn’t going to fully understand what this can do and how to get the most out of it and know how to work around its limitations. I’m ready to be blown away by what is created using these tools.
Me too. The best of us will rise to the top, just like when we transitioned from film to digital.
With your help I made my first AI! It’s so exciting! Not sure what I’ll use it for now but maybe tomorrow. Thank you!
Great video. Just what I needed. Also I love how you set up your room. Spacious, modern, great video resolution! Thx
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos are highly enlightening. Amazing! Looking forward to exploring the new features.
Thanks for the complement! And make sure to watch all 4! They cover different features!!
Absolutely amazing! However, I've been an avid student of Photoshop for years, learning compositing, and other cool techniques. A skill I was proud to know. Not everyone could do this. Adobe has now made it so easy to create stunning images and composites with absolutely no skill required, prompting me, (no pun intended), to question, Why did I learn all those techniques and skills over the years if the end result is something any novice can replicate in seconds by typing a description.
I know this feeling all too well! Im right there with you! Im hoping it speeds up the time it takes me to create composites so I can create more.
Helpful videos, well done!
glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for this tutorial! I have two questions. I was reading the Adobe Generative AI Beta User Guidelines and it says "No Commercial Use". As a portrait photographer, does that mean if I use Beta I can't give the images to my paid clients? I use Lightroom for quick editing and then I do detailed editing in Photoshop (from Lightroom I open into Photoshop). Since Beta is a separate app, will I have to open the image in Photoshop, save, and reopen in Beta?
Dang! This shark is legit! way to go KS!
Amazing!
it truly is! Make sure you watch all 4 videos as they cover different uses!
@@SharkPixel one to go and then repeat.😄.
Thank you very much
You are welcome
Thank you for this instructional video. I was having difficulty having the generative AI mess up the subject, and you kind of skipped over the steps to copying the original subject mask to. new layer. When I try to copy the AI mask to a new layer it creates a new layer with a new mask. Could you please walk through those steps for me?
I have tried changing the background using this tutorial. It worked beautifully! My question is how to import from Lightroom and how to then save back to Lightroom or to my computer?
your lightroom is probably linked to the regular photoshop. From lightroom you can drag and drop the photo onto the dock icon for the beta. then you would save the file to your computer then in the folder that you saved it to in lightroom, right click syncronize folder and it will pull the image into lightroom.
the question for me is can we use our own background/images for the change as i can't seem to access my library for higher res backgrounds and i'm unable to make corrections yet with the selected mask but otherwise i love it.
Mind blowing.. well explained.
Once I go to beta version..how I go back if I Don't wann beta version??
They are two separate programs ! You can even have them both open at once if your computer can handle it!
This is great! But is the quality good enough for print? Or is it like Midjourney? I’d LOVE a video on how to edit AI images for print quality. Even after upscaling (via Topaz) I struggle with this… thx again!!
So the quality of each outcrop is 1024 pixels (or 1K). So when doing your outcropping, its best to do it in segments, that way you get more pixels generated. Theres also super zoom in the neural filters section which can increase your resolution pretty easily!
Thanks for this really great clear explanation. Can you tell me how to replace the background with generative fill using my own background image please?
Did you ever figure this out? I also have the same question!
@@IceTrae no not really sorry
Love it! No link for Beta version....
Hi I like them all.I bought your ebook on 20 Photoshop Retouching Tips and will you add these new tips to your book so we can download the updated book?
I’ll definitely consider it!
Great text on generator bar
Thanks! I really lack in vocabulary. Im sure it'll start showing more!
I have ps 2023 downloaded... How to access the new tool...
What's the shortcut used to paste the selection at the end? I'm using a Mac. Thanks!
Thank you SO much for this tutorial! I have a question - I keep getting stuck at about 8 minutes and 40 seconds into your video where you isolate the subject (copy and paste) it into a layer so it doesn't get distorted once the background is checked. I do not understand how to copy and paste in photoshop. Thank you!!!!
Command + C to copy, Command + V to paste. :)
@@SharkPixel Thank you!
Here's where I might be getting tripped up - I see at the beginning of your video 1:19 your original layer plus another (layer 9) next to it - what is that?
Actually I just discovered that it's the layer mask step I was struggling with. I'm still getting used to the updated version of photoshop. I'm studying your other videos now. Thanks again!
Can I replace the background with one I have on my MacBook?
There are strong differences in color and brightness.
Probably, many will warm their hands on this instrument by making the same videos about working with it..
Wait two years until everyone calms down and something of substance begins to appear.
You may be seeing inconsistencies with color because the generative fill only generates pixels in SRGB and not Adobe 1998 or larger color profiles. A simple fix to this is creating an adjustment layer above the generated layer and then clipping the curves layer to the generated layer, followed by simply darkening the midpoint of the curve. Hope this helps!
IDK how you copied and pasted to fix wonky lasso selection. I have been trying to fix my mermaid subjects hand after changing the background in beta but it continues to make it look very distorted. idk how to copy/paste please help
put the original layer back on top and mask in only the hand.
Hi , can you please share a video on how to duplicate a background that you like from generative fill? I am trying to use the same for several pictures and can’t figure it out.
At this moment, they’re isn’t a way to regenerate the same background, you would need to manually copy it from image to image.
Hi , How to you copy and past the pixel to the layer, im having a hard time with that , ?
I don't see beta in my App menu? I have Creative Cloud, it should be there right?
Check the pre-release section. On the left hand side of the creative cloud window
can you please explain how you used the lassso tool when you fixed her nose .. coz my selection gets deselected
After your initial selection, hold shift to add to your selection, or option (mac) or alt (pc) to subtract from it.
The issue I have is that this only works with one picture. For example if I want to edit multiple pictures to look the same. AI will take the same words and create a new idea. Or if you want to change an outfit to match the previous AI option to the next picture Ai chose something different
Very good point! I wonder if Firefly will implement anything like Seed numbers in the future!
how did you subtract the grass with lasso tool
Once you make an initial selection, you hold down option or alt(PC) and that puts the tool into 'subtract' mode.
what about when it doesn't select correctly? I can't get it so I can add to the selection
What has this got to do with photography? Other than heralding the end of what we recognize as photography?
It's illustration based on a photograph. Only problem arises when pretending the result is a real photo.
Hi there do you have any link to view tour images. Thank you
Which Images? The ones in the video?
@@SharkPixel your publish images. Are you into beauty retouching? That will interest me.
I got the bar, but it does not contain the Generative Fill in the bar. How do I get that one?
You need to provide your date of birth to Behance to enable it. Open creative cloud, click the Behance button in the left side menu, it will ask you for your DOB. After that, reload photoshop and it should be enabled.
Where can I download that software with ai
Now! You just need to download the public beta version of photoshop.
8:57 - refining the image quality
Hopefully in future versions it will leave the hands and feet alone.
Agreed!
I didn’t see generate fill on my task bar, what did I do wrong?
make sure you have the latest version of the Photoshop Beta downloaded.
love from pakistan
thanks!
Is any new AI process of a photograph considered photography or art. If what you have done here is printed, can it legally be called a photograph by the photographer or should it be called Art by the artist. It is defiantly a game changer for the photographic enthusiast. But as a professional photographer, I would only use it add small decretive items to enhance the original photo.
Ask Steve McCurry
Something wrong with your screen resolution, it looks stretched in CZcams
thanks for letting me know!
You forgot to mention that you included a small slice of the left edge of the original image when you wanted to expand the background.
very good point! I'll make a note for the next video!
Adobe will be the next Kodak, shoot one self in the leg !
.
( kodak invented digital camera and caused the end of it's own film business empire )
How to add a background image like your video background 😅
It’s a real background. The wall paper is my photowall one of my FAVORITE companies!
If it is in the beta version I'm not interested, I do not need another version of photoshop on my computer
No worries! Simply wait for it to hit the regular version.
Hmmm, agree with some other comments. Very clever toy but very tacky and no professional photographers I know who have tried this have decided to use it.
good info but half the video was wasted on pointed chatter. also you do not need to just be connected to WiFI, you need to be connected to the internet, these are not the same thing
There are some excellent photoshop educators out there that teach fast, and to the point. I have battled with Lyme disease for 10 years now, and word retrieval is a daily struggle. I guess I'm not the educator that clicks with you, but I do with many other people. So I suggest checking out some of those other educators. They might be more to your liking.
Do I really now have to know how to spell ?!
Oh my goodness, I'm SO WITH YOU! My spelling is laughable!
@@SharkPixel I'm Dutch ..you want to borrow my dictionary as well ?! I'm using the English version of PS .The Dutch version of PS...,now THAT is laughable .:)
Removing or extending backgrounds it works fine but anyone telling you it does a good job guess what stock pics to slap in your background is getting paid. It doesn't even match your images resolution or quality so you get stretched or garbled images. I see nobody is zooming in to show those selection jobs it's doing badly either. If you have to spend time cleaning up what it doesn't get right, then it's not doing the job.
The pixel limitations for out cropping are currently 1k (1024 px) so I tend to outcrop in segments to avoid just that.
Feels like cheating or not realy learning anymore
I can understand that sentiment. But I think it’ll still be beneficial to many photoshop users
Well… you can still use the old-school methods and compare. In the end, no viewer will care at what tool or technique was used. It is the fina aesthetic experience that matters. 😍
Not really since most of the time you will spend more time cleaning up the bad results that you could've just done it the normal way from the start. Easier / faster doesn't mean better and I would not ever use this for a client expecting pro quality results.
This is not photography
