It always surprises me how people send in games they clearly didn't rewatch themselves. Like how would you watch this and not hit yourself over your head about losing it when you were one mutalisk Amove away from victory?
Me too, specially if you watch high level starcraft, you get used to it, sometimes I check the replays exactly looking for this, and sometimes even ingame you can realize you lacked on Macro or Micro and lost the game because of it. Even worse... I would even GG at the Muta's harass because a Zerg unchallenged on obviously more than 2 bases vs 1 Base Terran and almost no Eco means the Zerg already has half the map and floating in resources...
He could rebuild 15 mutas and win the game

So I've got a theory here. It seems to me Raiju might have only recently transitioned to SC2 from SC1. He uses Mutas like you would in SC1, and he uses Swarmhosts and Nydus Networks like he only just discovered these fascinating new units and now wants to try them out.

@@CrowMercury Given that SC1 got a Remaster in 2017, I don't find it that hard to believe. Here's how it could have gone: Guy plays SC1 in his childhood / teenage years. Doesn't touch it for a long time. SC2 comes out, but maybe he's disappointed by WoL and stops touching it. SC1 gets the Remaster, so he gets it for nostalgia value. Gets into it again. Gets SC related videos recommended on CZcams, learns that SC2 is quite different from what it was early on now. Decides to give it another try. I don't think that's too implausible.
As someone just coming back to sc2 after not playing since like 2012, some of the lotv units were fascinating to try and some of my earlier matches I did run 12 swarm hosts into marines and was surprised they didn't automatically cast locusts like the ones in coop do... or that adepts can't shoot air...etc.
The kill count of the last terran army deserves a medal of honour, kind of a heroes army.
"That hurts" - I think he was refering to the entire wipeout of his commands and workers, he was focused on stibilising things after the whole ordeal and that's why the response was so late.

For the first time, I disagree. I think he overdid it this time. Specifically unnecessary additions like the "sarcasm" word over Harstem's head, or when he adds the "but why?" meme after Harstem said something silly. I don't like these additions because they insult my intelligence. I know that Harstem is being sarcastic or humorous there, I don't it to have it spelled out for me through constant memes.
I get your point, but maybe there are some other viewers out there, who are not that good in sarcasm, as you are and maybe it can help them getting those things easier. Insulting your intelligence sounds for me like you think this video was only made for you and was personally made insulting you. Sarcasm has by the way nothing to do with intelligence. It is about reading emotions/faces. That's why people with autisms (who are often very intelligent) most of the time don't understand sarcasm, because they don't get the face/voice expressions...

The guy is in gold league, failing his build order in the first minute of the game, and Harstem says something like "great". If anyone fails to understand the sarcasm there, then they have donkey level IQ.
I dont understand why 'good editing' these days is adding a bunch of garbage on screen, memes, text, smug comments and adding other layers of audio, voice etc. Just feels like its catering to children.
The problem is that Raiju made swarm hosts. The obvious lesson here is to make the unit that Terran complains about: lurkers.
Honestly just learning how to macro out roaches would probably carry him to masters. Trying to get fancy with air harass and swarm host with nydus when a-move roach would have won him the game.
Zerg could have made pure zergling with all that extra cash and still won.

Roaches require less larva and they are not counterd by bio if the terran has no micro either. I would recommend "the brick". Matthew is right.

He has two modes:
- A Macro Mode
- Unit Control Mode
Every 30s (or only every minute) He must decide which mode he want to use. He is not allowed to use both at the same time-frame.
(Queen Injects are for sure only part of the Macro Mode ;) )
If the opponent drops into the mineral line, does running away with the workers count as macro or as unit control?

Our man Raiju has a long journey to make. When he realizes you are actually allowed to spend the resources you gathered, he is gonna be a formidable adversary. Let's note that 7500+ minerals and 1500+ gas he piled up can be converted to:
• 300 zerglings
• OR 60 banelings + 180 zerglings
• OR 60 roaches + 120 zerglings
• OR 30 hydralisks + 180 zerglings
• OR 50 queens and so on.
These amounts of armies could be very hard to lose against what the terran had even with negative micro!
really? I can be a formidable adversary? thanks for the motivation. Its just when I use mutas, its hard to manage macro since mutalisk is a very micro intensive unit thats why i combine it with swarm host that are less micro intense unit, but my macro management with mutas really suck.

If you leave 10k resources lying around and complain about the result of the match, there's no point playing strategy games. Clearly you don't like them, or at the very least don't recognise their significance.
@@marchmonkey7768 Swarm host requires quite a good amount of micro and macro, i would stay away from them. Seems like if you learn a good roach all in with a transition into hydra with good upgrades you will be plat...
Honestly, the best tip for any player who’s not great at macro is to practice your macro cycle a lot.
Going into custom games and making sure you inject, build, then creep spread reliably every 30 seconds will improve your macro a ton. Oh and always inject before and after a fight.
It's funny, a lot of the time in the lower leagues the people who are more self taught will have better micro than macro, because it's flashy and cool. It's what makes the game for some people. Not a lot of people getting into sc2 initially because they saw the crispest 3 base upgrade timing, but some might have seen 1 queen get transfused 30 times and survive, and that moment stuck in their mental toolbox
It’s actually a fairly good iq test. Smarter people will sort of very quickly realise that efficient macro is key to this game, whereas that knowledge will go right past a dumb persons head until they are told. So yeah, you’re dumb
@@TheBigEmstos dumb is a little more than I would say. You don't have to be highly ranked to have fun.
If you're self taught, i think it's much easier to figure out "ranged unit can back away from melee unit before attacking again" than it is to figure out a whole build order and how to macro properly, which is why some basic micro tricks are very common compared to efficient build orders
Also, some people may come from other rts games and already know these micro interactions, but don't know the macro of this game
@Lee Tabern Personally I went directly from Dune 2 and Warcraft 1 to Starcraft 2, so the reason I acted like that as a newbe wasn't coolness, but the fact I wasn't used to having more than 8-10 units at a time.

This is one of the most "you did it to yourself" IODIS of all time
Forget teching up or smth. Just make lings lol.
Once your mutas can semi contest their marines, the lings can act as a tank for your mutas + the lings can kill the Thor + the lings can force your opponent to spread out their army + they're really good at clearing buildings/SCVs uncontested.
If, *somehow* they manage to get out mines or tanks to counter the lings. Mutas just snipe them.

I find this incredibly fascinating. So, the Thor was a hard counter to mutas, that was hard countered by "magic box". Hum... I smell a big "SUCK" stamp in the air... let's watch it XD

i had lots of chats like that on the european server when i lived there (gold league). Less so here in NA. Yeah, it seems perfectly normal to me to float 10,000 minerals and philosophize in chat (especially in a tedious and pompous manner) about the wonders of me losing.

I had a similar experience as the zerg losing all of his mutas to the thor playing, from the Terran point of view. It was late game, against protoss. I had a group of around seven Thors hunting ninja bases when my opponent's entire armada of phoenixes fly above my thors. Because of AI pathfinding, the phoenixes all clumped into one small area, making them easy pickings for my thors' hellfire missiles. A single salvo took out all of the phoenixes and my opponents gg'd out soon after. Crazy game though Harstem. Love your content.

8:40 because metal league players actually do have some chops but are usually stuck in the lower leagues because they have very weak other points. Like there are people in gold league with near perfect build orders that may be 1 or 2 seconds off at MOST but they just don't have good moment to moment decisionmaking under pressure

The Thor is probably the hardest counter to Mutas that exist. High health and armor and splash anti air attack. There is no way Mutas could not be countered by it in a direct engagement
I believe this complaint is 100% valid. Thors are completely imba against muta.
I find it a little funny that Raiju needed the help of his opponent to figure this out. He could have read it on liquipedia.
The point is Thors are supposed to be imba against muta.
Next time have your opponent sent in the form, complaining about mutas being imba against scvs.

Wow, that was unexpected, the closest I^3ODIS to finding imbalance but it was for the opposite play who submitted it. Love the gold league shenanigans, you get less cringe from the players thinking they deserved the win because they don't know anything, and you get funny naive interpretations of why they aren't really that bad

Writing this while reading the complain, you know it is going to be a great one when someone is angry about the thor, a (mostly) anti light air unit, counters the muta, a light air unit.
SCII under gold league is 'wellcome to the jungle', you never know what can happen there. And yes, Zerg in low levels is IMBA, as most of the times you do not need to control your units, you only need to launch them in waves. The mistake of this zerg was build units he had to control and micro (aka mutas).

In Dutch we just have oom/neef, and we can use it in the way Harstem is using.

having a simple build order, following it (with +5s delay), and you will reach diamond 3 easily. Against anyone plat and below, if they rush/all-in, you will always have enough to stay alive and outmacro after 5min mark.

Literally every gold match he's surprised that the micro is good when the macro is so bad or vice versa.

On a completely different note, I do wish Mutas were somehow better. Even if that just meant slightly better attack upgrades so opposing defense upgrades didn't cripple them so hard.

I myself am somewhat of a 10k resources hoarder. HOWEVER. What on earth was he doing after his mutas died?! The only way to lose that game is by literally doing nothing. And that's exactly what he did.
I just finished the part with the complaint form and... I can make a similar one easily right away:
"Dear Harstem,
I tried to attack 20 blue-flame-hellbats with 40 no-speed-lings and these monstrous machines eradicated my precious lings with ease! Tell me Captain, are lings that weak and hellbats are just IMBA or do I just suck?"

I have the same problem of investing all my attention to one attack, micro it more or less well, and then just not having an idea how to kill the opponent, because my T1/T2 army are not good enough anymore. I know I need a transition to some t3 composition and I need it 5 minutes ago when I started my attack but now it's too late.
