I’m so glad you mentioned the Walmart pillows! I’ve purchased them before for the polyfill stuffing but somewhere along the line I had forgotten about them! Thanks so much for the reminder!!!❤

Great tip on the Wal-Mart pillow stuffing! Lol, I even save all the stuffing from the stuffed animal toys my dog rips up, which are many, and use that for pillows too.

Thanks for the idea about Wal-Mart pillows as a stuffing source. Here’s a tip I learned some time ago from a CZcams video: Whenever you have to leave an opening for turning, sew from the edge of the fabric to the point where your seam line begins, turn and sew your seam, and when you get to the end of your seam line where the opening begins, turn and sew to the edge of the fabric. You will have sewn L-shapes. I backstitch at the corners of the L’s so they don’t tear when I turn. Whenever you turn your project right side out, the fabric at the opening will turn inward to the proper depth. That makes it easy to press for sewing the opening closed.

Thank you so much for this! I never thought about buying cheap Walmart pillows for the stuffing! Genius, ordered some today, and to be able to reuse the casing for new forms! I’m making a quilt and matching pillow for my mom for Mother’s day and now I don’t need those expensive Amazon pillow forms! Love your channel!!!

When I make a pillow form or cover, I like to round the corners a bit, so I don't get that corners poking out effect. Just a little rounding, maybe the curvature of a quarter coin, makes the result look a lot smoother.

Oh my goodness Kris! Great tips. I can't believe I never thought to make my own pillow form. I have a quilt block I wanted to make into a pillow and haven't been able to find the right size form! Great tip on the Walmart $5 pillows too! Sending my daughter to Walmart now so I can finally finish this dang accent pillow!

Instead of not stitching at the opening, I stitch through it then rip out those stitches. I do backspace at the same places you do, though. Ever since I started doing that, I have not had any issues with that fabric looking uneven when it’s closed.
Ooohhhhh great tip on the Walmart pillow usage. I have a 20lb box of Polyfil I got for super cheap (under $20 during a sale) that will last quite a while but once that’s gone, I can buy in smaller amounts! Yay!

Good idea with the low cost pillows for stuffing. I cut up all my small batting scraps from trimming quilts/table runners/pillows and save them in the plastic bags my fabric comes in. Then I just empty the bags into my pillow forms. Thanks for sharing,.

Okay, this trick of using the Walmart pillow is excellent. Much lower cost than buying the inserts pre-made.
Now I do recall that when I made the 20 little pillows, I was not satisfied with the selection of sizes of the inserts I could buy! They were either too honkin' big, or too small. I opted for small but it would have been cheaper and a better fit if I could made them the size I wanted and with the Walmart filling. Yay for you, Kris! Another thrifty practical idea that I will keep in mind for the future.
BTW, if your daughter is a kindergarten teacher, you end up making all kinds of stuff. It's fun to make things for my daughter and her many many projects!
