I have owned the X - S 10 now for about 2 1/2 weeks. I cannot believe this camera I cannot believe how good it is for the size and the value and the quality it produces. I post on several pages Instagram and other places as well people were still thinking that I was shooting with my Nikon D850. If I didn’t tell them they wouldn’t have known. This is a great camera for many reasons. And I’ve only just started. The reason I bought a small camera was precisely what you said at the start you can just point and click ….It’s really good and I mean really good and if you know how to handle a Camera you can get pro standard images out of his Canberra. 15 years ago professional photographers were using 12 megapixel cameras. This is 26 it’s more than enough and in fact I don’t understand why we’re getting into this megapixel wore it is a bit crazy if you asked me. Thank you for your review of this camera as I really love it as well

Hugh I recently discovered you in my as yet ongoing search for the best entry level camera to jump into and I have to say your down to earth approach is extremely helpful in giving folks in my position some perspective. So many other presenters will pick out some "negative" (single card slot for example) and blow it out of proportion. Only you could make a 20+ minute talking head video so interesting. Keep it up!

So right! Though I do prefer focusing manual glass on the highest res OLED EVF I can get my hands on, the Fujifilm's simulated microprism or split prism are pretty nice. - The Leica CL is especially adept with M glass, as that EVF somehow punches above its weight class, and the implementation of finder magnification is lovely.

If Migrating to the Fuji family/eco, without too much performance sacrifice this may just be the one. I think (think) Fuji has always focused on the photography vs the video until the xt4 (hybrid master).... this just cements the lineage. Cannot wait to try it with some reasonable glass. Birds and grandchildren move way to fast to be futzing with dials and taking my eye away from the VF. 2nd, the analogue controls meant no Custom modes. I use the custom settings all the time on my Sony and Olympus cameras, and that was a deal breaker, but now............hmmm. (or should it be ohmmmmm. And a BTW, on one of the reviews I watched today (I think Camera Conspiracies) it was mentioned that video settings can not be saved in the custom modes. I have been wanting a Fujifilm camera for some time now. I really like the controls on the X-T4, and someday hope to have one. I am giving up on Pentax, as they just cant get things right with AF, video features, and aperture blocks that don't die...as well as it seems Tamron/Sigma are not really continuing to support the K mount....
I am looking to get into Fujifilm cameras, and I really think this X-S10 is the perfect way to get started out, for a great price. It does have a few compromises, compared to the X-T4, but for this price point it seems to very much be the best option among any current models from any maker...and they're compromises I can surely live with.

Weather sealing too, a nice feature but if shooting in the mist or drizzle aplastic shroud works fine. On the plus side the ergonomics with the XS10 are the best. Not having a Fuji camera before I did not have any experience with the controls of the camera. I find the controls very easy to customize for whatever scene, style or focus format desired. This camera is W A Y more than a camera for beginners. It certainly could be but if you are looking for more out of a camera you’ll love it. Either way have fun shooting.

Thanks. This video was perfectly timed for me because I had only recently come around to the belated epiphany that Tomorrow Never Knows was THE pivotal song of the Rock Era, a largely forgotten masterpiece that changed everything in popular music and still reverberates through so much of what we hear today. The X-S10 won’t do the same for photography. But, still, I bought into your vibe on it. It does all fit into my current quest to simplify, simplify, simplify. And, return to photography basics instead of pursuing the nth degree of the latest camera features. In the end, the love you take is equal to the images you make.

Say, Hugh, I just posted the following comment over on the SnapChick’s video on this camera, and since it’s addressed to you, too, and I don’t expect that you are reading replies to her, I thought I would put a copy here, too. How’s that for service!! :-)
To: SnapChick and Hugh - Thanks to both of you for your recent videos on this camera. I am an ancient old SLR/DSLR geezer who is only now in the process of seriously shopping for my first mirrorless camera as a travel alternative to my wonderful, but all-too-heavy Nikon D850. Being a mostly Nikon guy (but, not a fanboy), I had been just trying to decide between the Z6 and new little Z5. But, the result of your two videos is that I will give a serious look at the X-S10. I have no idea what motivated Fuji, but for me, the new PASM dial approach does make this camera more appealing. Not only is it more familiar, coming from the Nikons, but to me it just seems more practical. I mean the physical shutter speed dial is a nice homage to the past - and indeed the cameras I grew up with - but to heck with that when you are trying to get the exact shot you want as quickly as you can. I can’t speak for others, but for me the PASM with two control dials is just more facile and faster. The biggest question I have to answer for myself is whether I want to back off from full frame to crop for my travel photos. Methinks I need to try this one out and compare images from it and one of my Nikon FF’s. For, as I told Hugh over the weekend: In the end, the love you take is equal to the images you make. :-) All the best. Thanks again. JW

Not sure if you have decided but if you have not go hold these two cameras. I did also look at weight and cost as I wanted to stay light for travel etc. A wide angle zoom from Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Lens costs $1998. and weights 1.5 pounds. The 19-24 Fuji XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR costs $999. and weighs 13.5 ounces. The Sony Full frame a7c costs about about $800 more than the Fuji. Now Sony is a full frame camera vs the Fuji aps-c format. I was at first very prehensile about apps-c but now am a big fan. Love it. If you you did buy the Sony I am sure you will love it but if not give the Fuji a look…their film simulation modes are Fantastic.

    • @DrKartoffelsalat
      @DrKartoffelsalat Před 3 lety +2

If you are primarily doing photo the X-T3 is still a great option if your really want the manual dials. The lack of IBIS may be a consideration but thats really one of the few compromises for Photo. You'd gain an extra card slot however, that is better accessible, which for some photographers is a must. For video its a mixed bag too, X-T3 has more codec options, XS-10 has IBIS.
Honestly, there really is no clear winner i think, both would take fairly identical pictures. Many photo people prefer the manual dials and screen of the X-T3, most hybrid-shooters prefer the tilty-flippy-screen of the XS-10 or X-T4.

Na maste, this was an amazing review. Thoroughly enjoyed. Though albeit sometimes I was slightly confused whether you're saying it's good camera compared to competition (eg. when you started talking about A7C).
I'm very interested in this camera. Though I have hard time letting go of 4k 60 and that I want and need it. (eg. for slightly smoother and slowed down "B-roll").
I'd be using it mostly for CZcams and self-shooting, and then learning and improving on it creating other videos, too. + dabbing into photography (most likely street and landscape/nature).
I'm tempted to wait it out a bit longer to see if Sonu will come up with some a7600 or a7400.
Or whether there'd be some nice discount on XT-4 during black friday (20% would prob make me snag it as that would make it around 1500 euro - BTW new sony a6600 costs 1600 euro here... ridiculous).
Basically, if Sony does not come up with a new APS-C camera very soon, Fuji's got a winner

I don’t expect an a7xxx, but I have no inside knowledge. Waiting for Black Friday is not a bad idea in any case. I think it’s a great camera, but really, so are the others. It’s a question of use cases, priorities, and budget - as always. 🙏🏻😊

@@3BMEP Yeah, totally get that. Though it's hard for me to choose as I have no experience with "Real" cameras so I'm not really sure what I truly need. (Is that 4k 60 really that important to me? I know I wanna be uploading things in 4k, + 4k helps a lot when shooting and reframing myself, but is 4k 60 that important to me for broll?).

There are two glaring omissions from this camera.
    1) Weather sealing.
    2) There is only one card slot, and it's only UHS-I. My Panasonic G85 has a UHS-II card slot, and that camera is four years old. Now, for video, that doesn't matter so much. But, if you're shooting bursts (and this camera can shoot 20 fps with a mechanical shutter and autofocus), you're going to be waiting for a while for the buffer to clear.
Of course, they seem to be benchmarking something between the Sony a6400 and a6600.

@@quinnfitzpatrick7507 Yes, both are XF lenses made by Fujifilm. There’s little to choose between this and the a7c for landscape. The X-S10 has a couple more megapixels than the a7c; the a7c does a better at high ISO, but at the same depth of field their noise performance is similar, and landscape photographers especially can use slower shutter speeds to compensate. A7c has marginally better AF but that advantage is moot for landscape.
