This was so helpful! I start classes soon, so thank you so much! I've had many people recommend Zanki and different resources, but they never discussed how to actually use them
Glad you liked it! :)
Looking forward to the AMBOSS video!
Truly a King.
Start lectures next week. This is the absolute most perfect timing!!
All due to requests from people like you :)
Side note: any other Qbanks besides Rx for M1 year? Or is Rx good enough? I have a similar schedule to you first year, (cell, biochem, etc) and then anatomy and phys later
@@oreman011 Rx, Kaplan and Amboss are probably the best Qbanks out there right now. I'm personally using Rx and Amboss, but you can't go wrong with any of them
The AnKing thank you sir!! Keep up the good work
I know it may be out of the scope of this channel, but some onenote tutorials would be great!!
Oh man... I’m not the one to teach those.. I only know how to type and highlight :)
Hey AnKing, thanks for all your work. I've been running into an issue with combining zanki with my class decks. I pull cards out of their zanki subdecks and make a combined deck with "class" tagged class cards, zanki cards, and "histo/anatomy" tagged histo/anatomy cards. I normally don't finish all of the new cards per day and instead use the weekend to get an extra 200 or so done so the weekdays are lighter. My issue is that when I have more unseen than I have scheduled to do as news for that day, I get all of the zanki cards first and only after they're finished my class and anatomy/histo cards start showing up. Do you know if this has something to do with the tagging of cards or if there is some workaround so I can see a mix of all 3 card types within my news and reviews each day? The only way I've found to do it is by custom studying and selecting by those class and histo/anatomy tags but that defeats the purpose of a combined deck. Thanks!
It shows you the cards in order so I would recommend just moving your classes deck out of the main deck so you have two decks and settings separate limits on both of those decks.
Hey Anking, so I just downloading the whole Anking deck and suspended all of the cards, but they're still all showing up for review even though in browse they're highlighted yellow and suspended. Any idea what's going on here? Thanks for your help and all you do.
Thank you for these extremely helpful videos! If you have a template to that awesome looking schedule, do you mind sharing it?
Maryo Toma there really isn’t any template.. I only made that just for this video and it’s not very customizable unfortunately. I just use a planner to hand write everything :)
Ok gotcha. Thanks for replying!
Thank you so much for all your help! So I noticed that you were able to organize your note types into a folder. How did you do that? What add-on are you using? I have Glutanimates Better tags add on and I was not able to do this. Thank you again!
Abinand Rejimon that is the customize sidebar addon :)
IS there anyway to make copies of premade cards, and move them into a separate deck (year 1 didactics, for example, to focus in on M1 material), without actually moving the card from the original deck?
Great video! How do you juggle between doing class cards and the anking deck cards at the same time?
Zanki/lightyear cards will overlap with a huge portion of your class material. It just takes a little practice :)
Hey! Super impressed by your videos, thanks for everything you're doing :) I am a huge newbie to Anki and don't understand the action/uses of "suspending" cards. Do you have a video you can refer me to where you explain this? Thanks in advance!
Yeah check out our Anki 101 basic playlist. There's a video that explains the terminology of everything (i.e. mark, suspend, tag, etc)
@@AnKingMed Sweet! Checked it out there, so you suspend what you haven't covered yet, and then unsuspend as you learn? So for example if I have only done like half of sketchy micro, I can suspend all the ones I haven't done so they don't come up in my daily flashcards?
@@ec30 Exactly!
what addon is it that shows the stats under the deck "new, learning, review, mature, young, learned, etc"? Thanks(:
Hey, awesome stuff. Do you know of any comprehensive Anki rescources for non US medical students?
Hello Anking. Regarding the question banks that you mentioned in your video, besides choosing radom questions in Rx, is there a way to find questions specifically to the topics you have covered in class? Also what do you think is the best progression of questions banks? Some friends of mine suggest Rx then Kaplan and finally Uworld. Thanks for the great job you do sharing these useful tips for Anki
In Rx you can select which topics you want to be in your custom session (i.e. just microbiology and immunology). I'd recommend Rx, then kaplan or amboss then Uworld.
thanks for the tips. Just to be clear..so you use as many premade cards as you can from the Zanki..and then you make seperate decks sorted by class for any extra cards you need to make that is not covered by your pre made decks? Thanks!
That’s correct!
It would have been a blast to have not had class in med school. Can you share with those students who have mandatory lecture if this process can work? In my experience it is extremely hard to keep up with reviews after a long day of classes.
It would depend on how long your classes go. When we had 8:00 AM classes we just woke up early enough to get all our reviews done. On days with a lot more reviews, we finished the last cards during a lunch break, for example.
what was the calendar app used on the right
Do you guys think the anking deck can substitute for making own cards for class for a busy non US med student that is not doing steps? (Really need to learn the process of making good card fast post attending lectures, I find it very time consuming;/ but good for Learning…)
Second: The browser in M1 Mac really got laggy when adding the anking deck, takes like 2 secs to close after browsing :/
Thanks so much for the video! I want to ask what kind of program/software did you use to make your general life schedule (6:31)? Thanks a bunch again!
I actually just use Apple notes :)
@@AnKingMed thanks :)
I didn't get how to use the flashcards during the lecture! Can someone explain to me please??
Is it possible to re-parent a deck that was created a late time?
Incredible! I start in two weeks and can't wait to incorporate Anki! A question: How do you recommend organizing premade & lecture cards, so that once you've passed a certain unit/want to study a specific topic you can focus on what's pertinent at that time? I used to make multiple decks & sub-decks, down to the chapter of the test unit, but I don't want to move any of the premade cards I've downloaded out of their respective folders. I can happily clarify my question if need be. Thanks!
some people like to make a "current" and "past" deck for the premade cards, but I personally just leave them all there and do every review, every day. As long as you're doing every review in the deck, you'll be covering the material for your quizzes. It might be kind of mixed in with other stuff, but its never bothered me.
@@AnKingMed that makes sense! And do you do tagging for dedicated study for exams?
Andrew Cuevas I don’t but I know people who do. Just doing anki is usually all I need for the quizzes
@@AnKingMed Will this mess up applying future updates that you and your team release as you continue the tagging process? Thank you again for your amazing work in all things Anki!
Nope it won’t :)
I downloaded anking on mac and I only got 899 cards. Why
Also, why select the number of cards to unsuspend week to week instead of unsuspending the whole subdecks for that module and setting a consistent cards/day to just finish them by the end of that module? and do you feel that it takes too much time to pick out cards to unsuspend every day for each day based on what they cover for that day?
I don't do that because its better to actually LEARN the card first. So I use the resource used to make those cards (i.e. pathoma, costanzo) and then unsuspend the cards I've learned. I dont think it takes that much time and it makes class quizzes much easier
Long post so I apologize in advance. I am currently in Cardio block at my school and we have at least 4 lectures every morning but have had some 5 and 6 lecture days lately. I currently have my new cards capped at 150 because 6 lectures worth of cards occasionally ends up being hundreds of cards (we had one whole lecture on pretty much all the hypertensive drugs which resulted in about 4 or 5 sketchy pharm videos and multiple drugs not in sketchy). Do you have any suggestion on how to manage this other than just pushing through? My fear is if I don’t cap my new cards at 150 my reviews will just build too quickly and I won’t see everything by the time of our quiz every Friday. I am already averaging about 530 cards a day and we are only a week in the block. Love the videos though and good luck in year 2!
When I was in our micro unit, I was averaging about 600 reviews/day plus all the new cards I'd add (which was usually 200 or so). I think it just depends unit to unit. If you feel its too much, just learn the cards on stuff your class wants you to learn and come back to the rest of the step 1 material later on.
How do your intervals vary for your class deck relative to zanki
I currently have them set the same, although I’m more likely to hit hard on class stuff because I’m not worried about ease hell since I suspend them after the class
yo unrelated how do i make like a subdeck underneath the main deck (get it to where you have a plus sign and it shows stuff underneath)
You can make a new subdeck and title it "headdeck::subdeck" or just make a subdeck and then click and drag it under the other one
Hi !
i have a small problem using anki , anki says that i have too many decks because i downloaded the zanki how do i organise the whole anki page ?
How many decks do you?
So in essence, you are looking in Zanki how many cards have a certain Tag that aligns with you lecture and add them to your own deck an learn those?
Yup! That’s the basic idea
Great! So, How many videos and new cards should we do per day?
This is very dependent on your curriculum, study pace, etc and there’s no one right answer
M1 here. I have a question. I had my exam yesterday in foundations. What do I do with the Anking cards I unsuspended for that exam? Suspend them again until time to study for step 1? I put them in a filtered deck to separate from the other Anking cards
Now is the time to study for step 1. Keep them going don’t suspend them. Trust me.
@@jacobking2864 ok. That’s what I was weighing. The only thing is I suspended multiples of cards (example- I don’t think I need 5 different cards for Maple Syrup Disease unless they test a different aspect of it). Any qualms with that?
@@Maddawg31415 As tedious as it seems you kinda do. All in all step 1 is p/f but to do well on step 2 the foundation is built from step 1 knowledge.
Can you do a video on how to use BnB with Zanki when you are trying to go through the original Zanki resources?
We've got 2 videos on how to search in Zanki and that's what I'd recommend. Our AnKingOverhaul has about 25% of the boards videos tagged, but you'll have to manually search for the others
@The AnKing thanks. But I meant how to incorporate it into the workflow, rather than how to use the corresponding cards. For example, should I wait until I complete the entire deck and go through all of costanzo, pathoma, FA before using BnB?
@@ATA-wi2lh Oh gotcha! We're trying to show that on our instagram channel with how we're doing things. However, there's not one right or wrong way to do it. I personally use BnB for any physiology stuff and use pathoma for the pathology.
@@AnKingMed Oh gotcha. I'll check out your IG. Regarding using it for physio, how do you do that? Does BnB line up pretty well with costanzo?
@@ATA-wi2lh Yeah it lines up fairly well. Still need to do a little searching, but as long as you sort by date created, its not too hard!
I am an MS1 and am trying to figure out how to best integrate the AnKing V4 cards into my studying. I noticed in your past "Self Load Balance" video you moved new cards to a "new card" deck. Is this something you still suggest or do you now generally keep everything within there Zanki/LoL subeck now?
I like moving new cards to a new card deck because I can prioritize and reinforce my lectures, but I fear that I will not be able to put those cards back into the proper Anking V4 organized decks. I'd appreciate any advice.
Thanks for all your videos. They are really helpful!
I never moved any Zanki cards out of the deck, just my own personal cards that I've made. However, you can move cards to a new deck, but moving them back is difficult. You could use the subdecks to tags add-on to make all of the subdecks into tags which would make putting them back easier. On that add-on page, there is a comment that explains how to alter the add-on so that it doesn't delete all the subdecks and make it into one big deck.
The AnKing thanks! I’ll probably just stick to your method of keeping them in the orgininal decks. Appreciate your help and all your videos!
How do we make image occlusion cards in the iOS app?
You can’t. Addons only work on the desktop version unfortunately
The AnKing thanks! Do you know how to make cards that test for multiple image occlusion at the same time ?
@@naibo12 I don't sorry :( Unless you mean multiple boxes at once- if so, watch our video on image occlusion and it shows that!
The AnKing no worries thank you!
How can this guy be so intelligent and so well educated and yet be a Mormon? Does he just literally never think about the logical and scientific inconsistencies?
What's the maximum number of reviews you can manage per day? And how long does it take you to do 500/600 cards?
I was adding 200 cards per day for a week but then the reviews went up to 600-700. Does that ever happen with you and how do you manage it?
I am usually between 400-600 reviews and I add around 600-800 new cards a week on average. 600 reviews usually takes me around 2-2.5 hours. Hope that helps!
@@AnKingMed I've had a pile up, I have over 1500 cards due. How do you recommend I reschedule these cards? and another issue I encountered is that when I used the filtered decks for new cards and then added them back to the main deck (light year), they were still being shown as new cards despite being reviewed once already, do you have any idea about this?
Salaar Sarwar Khan I would recommend just doing all of those cards. It won’t be fun but it’s the best thing you can do. For filtered decks I think it’s an issue in Anki that’s being looked at (at least from what I last read). You could try posting on the r/Anki subreddit because I don’t use filtered decks very often
@@AnKingMed thanks man, appreciate it. Got into anki because of your channel, keep up the good work. :)
@@salaarsarwarkhan366 Glad you like it!
I'm from INDIA.
I have completed 4 and half year of M.B.B.S .
Currently I'm doing Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship .
I was hoping to cover some subjects via pre made decks.
can anyone tell me how would I proceed .
Download the Anking V6 deck on Reddit or our website and then you can search for cards that match up through the search option, the decks, or the tagging system. Good luck!
@@AnKingMed thanks.
I'm in love with you
Hey Anking, this is quite a niche problem but for those without any social media, is there a way to access your Instagram Stories?
jollywix1993 I think you can view the Facebook or Instagram stories without an account because it’s public. Try instagram.com/ankingmed
@@AnKingMed Unfortunately, Instagram requires an account to view stories but I've found an Instagram viewer that works: ingram.life/u/ankingmed/ (if anyone else has the same problem as me).
Mormons ftw (I'm assuming you're Mormon because of the term FHE lol)
Haha yes we are :)
Good Stuff! In the market for a good/easy schedule app. What did you use in this video to make your schedule?
I actually just use a paper planner. I only made this one just for the video and it wasn't a great program sorry :/
