- We are proud to present a new installment of The Old Man and The Three's 'Coaching Series' where we dive deep into the insights and strategy of the top coaches in basketball. In this episode, we welcome former NBA player, form Head Coach of The NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers and current head coach of The Los Angeles Clippers, Tyronn Lue. Ty Lue has cemented himself as one of the best coaches in The NBA and we are so psyched to share this conversation. Topics include: Ty Lue laying with JJ Redick on The Orlando Magic, how he first got into coaching, what he learned from Doc Rivers in Boston, what he learned from Phil Jackson on The Los Angeles Lakers, why he feels former players are uniquely suited to coach in The NBA, what it was like coaching LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love on The Cleveland Cavaliers, the unique way he inspired and motivated his team when they were down 3-1 to Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and The Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals, coaching Kawhi Leonard on The Los Angeles Clippers, his message to The Clippers going into this season, what he learned from playing with Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan and what makes those guys different from everyone else and of course we had to ask about the iconic Allen Iverson step-over. Also in this episode, JJ and Tommy discuss their initial takeaways from the first week of the NBA season and JJ clears the air on a Lakers take that has since been aggregated and criticized.

No questions about the JR Smith finals mistake? Well..
🙌🏼
Love. the. video. chapters. Now THAT'S money!!
Why do I feel like a LeBron episode is coming soon. What a great episode, you can see why Ty Lue is a head coach, he’s really smart and cool.
Yoo I had this same exact feeling I feel as if JJ has sum special coming with all these bangers
Lebron ain’t going on any podcast until he gets a win 😂
Bron hinted on Twitter about possibly doing it…. I hope he does..
@@RoloTravels0 don't they got one against the pacers
I thought lebron hate jj
JJ really humanize basketball players, staff. Thanks for another great interview
I remenber when ty lue was universally disliked as a coach so glad he was able to prove alot of us wrong.
Lol I was thinking the same thing. I used to think he was carried by Bron and had no coaching talent, but the last few years of what he’s done w the Clips (w/out their 2 best players at times) completely changed everything I used to believe about him. Very, very solid coach.
Everyone thought he was mike brown back then
it's mainly the dickriding toxic Lebron fanbase. They've been doing it their whole career. Denigrating his coaches and teammates to prop up his legacy every team he was on. It's so cringe and pathetic. Once upon a time they were even calling Spo a bad coach which looks just as silly as the Ty Lue criticisms now if not worse.
@@pstratos7 look at Mike Brown now though
@@keysersoze5032 mike brown isn’t a head coach though
this episode makes me feel that Ty Lue is an incredible presence in the locker room. and from the post-game huddle videos I've seen of the Clips and the Cavs, it might just be very true. incredibly player-friendly.
Bro literally got the Cavs a championship after a 3-1 deficit. I mean look at Tyronn Lue man so inspiration.
He did have a small amount of help from a dude that led the entire series in Points, Rebounds, Assists, Steals and Blocks.
And that guy wants his two Benjamin's back.

@@ImBarryScottCSS facts funny story bron asking wheres my 200 😂😂😂😂😂 just show king james memory so sharp 👑👑👑🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
@@NikoBellic20080 how about the time the Warriors won when both Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving were injured?
I think the fact that Doc never even opened Ty Lue's book just shows you what kind of coach he is
Yeah Doc is only as good as his team chemistry. Doc is a mid coach that had great pieces put around him that allowed him to succeed. You could've stuck Jim Boylen in that Celtics lockeroom and still came out with a ring 😂
@@knection1986 He only really succeeded once. Dude has blown more 3-1 leads then any coach in NBA history and even that Celtics team should have won more then 1
Agreed. Doc could never win that Jazz series without Kawhi. Doesn't make adjustments and terrible rotations.
Lol you'd be surprised how many industries this sort of scenario happens in.
@@lloydmo9409 ALL.
So it turns out, Ty Lue is Doc's greatest legacy
And they both were point guards
They are like the polar opposites in coaching. Doc is a historic choker with more chokes than a deepthroat compilation and Ty is a historic comeback coach. Not just the 3-1 VS Warriors but down against Dallas 0-2 and in that series the road team won the first 6 games until Clips won game 7 at home. Also the comeback against Jazz even with Kawhi injured and out.
facts
Lue's ability to reunite a team made of people nobody wanted like batum wall and zubac is so so good
Zubac was wanted it was Magic thinking Muscala and Reggie Bullock in 1 year deals was a good GM move
What do you mean no one wanted, Wall is like top 15 or something at his position

I got a day ahead of me that I’ve been stressing over all week, but this will have me calm on my way to work. Thank you Jj and Tommy and the producers! Y’all are the best
Good luck my guy , one step at a time 🙌

Yeah buddyyy
A Ty interview is like a $20K bottle of wine, very rare. Good get
Just wanna say I absolutely love Tommy on the podcast. He’s probably the best fit you could get. Knows a truck load without playing the game. Represents all of us who haven’t played but love and breathe the game. Keep it up Tommy.
Ty Lue's good-natured and even emotional keel, keen knowledge of the game, and vulnerability... so inspirational man, one of the best coaches in the game right now!!! FOR A REASON!!!
Interview starts at 27:33
Good looking
Can’t believe they talked for 30 minutes before they started lol.
@@Racoons4Change I like it. JJ entertaining. He just sent Ye against ESPN and First Take Producers
Ty Lue so articulate since Bron and them not looking so good i really hope he can bring one home for the Clips that is really a HOF GOAT Résumé
Yet here you are, failing to properly punctuate😂😂😂irony is dead
Ty Lue so laid back man I know his teammates love playing for him.
Excellent interview. JJ and Tommy you guys are doing a phenomenal job.
I've been waiting for Tyronn Lue to be on THIS podcast! Glad Old Man finally got him.
JJ was MAD MAD talking about the lakers/clutchpoints in the beginning 😂
Very relatable guy for players I think. Speaking "the truth" is great from Ty. I also liked the takeaway he had from Doc: being prepared but also picking your spots as a coach to use your "bullets." Outside of the game, leaders and people can take these lessons for sure too.
Probably one of my favorite ones yet Man. JJ props on these guests ! These have been great ! Fr
Fired up JJ is amazing. Clutch Points poking the bear is where it’s at 😅😂
This was a great interview! Keep ‘em coming JJ
Bruh I smiled and laughed when Lue told the story about the money missing in the ceiling after the chip 🤣. They had a real chemistry in that locker room 💯
Shout out Ty Lue! Intelligent mind. Perfect poise. Fun spirit.
What an interview 👏
JJ and Tommy has done it again
hot take, im loving the coach interviews even a little more than the player interviews, these coaches just have sm knowledge about the sport and the nba, great to hear how they think, amazing content, I love this sport man!
I was thinking the same thing, man this was an enjoyable listen hearing a coaches viewpoint on how and why the approach the game the way they do. Some stuff with players is obvious imo, not so much with the coaches.
Coaches naturally are better at communicating, they have to be lol
"Do what you do, and I will fit you in" This is why Ty Lue is a great coach.
Hey I am a Laker fan and you guys could not have said it any better. You two are going to change the game as we see it. Keep challenging the system, so the game of basketball can continue to evolve.
Great job, JJ does an awesome job of letting the guest talk and being really prepared, thanks bro!
Sincerely love this podcast no matter what:
Damn guys.. what a great interview. Fantastic questions, super crisp and interesting stories. Loved it. Thanks!!!
I just want to say thank you Jj for getting into the meat and nuance of basket breakdown. Many shows say they offer this and never really dive in and dance around the topic. Keep up the great content!!!!!!!!
Another fantastic interview - amazing podcast
My favorite coach ‼️I was never a jj fan but I'm really impressed by the Job he's done with this podcast. This is one of my favorites along with Ryan Clark and his boys podcast. JJ works hard at putting a good podcast. 👍🏼
I didn't know Tyronn Lue was such a stand up guy. That's awesome.
Sincerely loves this dude no matter what:
props, great interview
Been waiting for this! 🙏
One go if not my favorite pod cast I love ya keep going love from ny
Very great interview. 10/10 I like Ty Lue and pull for his team and liked learning this side of him. Good interview!
man i love those lebron stories he really helped a headcoach prepare for his job. legm back at it again!
Fo sho more great story once he retires 🐐🐐👑👑👑🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
But Ty Lue also helped LeBron become a leader also though.
They helped each other
would love to see more coach interviews this is great
Great interview. Tyronn sounds like a great guy. Thanks.
Ty Lue is so underrated as a coach
He’s a great coach but I’ve never seen the media dickride a coach so hard so idk how that’s underrated
As a life long Cavs fan this one is gonna be good 🔥🔥🔥
I love the new format with the weekly take on the NBA, it's awesome, although I wish it was released separate from the interview (if possible) so you could have 2 different uploads? It would make it easier to watch all the content
Wow Donovan Mitchell then T lue. Cavs fans are loving this. Thank you j.j
Bro the way he does docs voice 😂😂😂😍
I remember back in 2018 everyone would always be on him calling him the assistant coach 😂😂. Glad he gets his respect now
amazing episode
Such a nice guy , good for him
Ty Lue 💪🏽 Nice interview 🎯
This is going to be a good one, can’t wait man.
Great pod once again 🔥
This was really great one.
Best coach in the NBA. Love that guy.
You the man JJ
Just rewatched the Uconn Duke Final 4 game in 2004. Very enjoyable outcome.
Ty's been fortunate to have owners ( Cavs, clippers) that's had and we're willing to spend the money and had the money to get whoever they need. He's done good other than unfortunate injuries.
Thank you for talking about different things :D at the beginning of the podcast. Please keep it sincere and go sell out on us. Just because no one seems to "Care" what you two wanna talk about, but that's what keep it unique.
Great interview
Great episode
Best basketball podcast on the net right here...
JJ yet again with another banger, I've turned from hater-to-fan on sooo many guests. Shoutout Tommy and the whole crew too!
Thanks For another great episode guys, new found respect for Ty Lue‼️
Definitely could see jj being a nba coach 💯💯💯💯
The framed picture of Zubac in the headset is hilarious.
Those 3 plays. Love stopping steph bron blocking iggy and then kyrie hitting that shot is such a crazy sequence in a game 7 on road coming from 3-1 down
As a cavs fan I immediately clicked liked and shared this video
Ty Lue Fr got the best smile in the NBA
Love the link for people with gambling problems. Respect.
Love that he always does docs voice😂
Preach JJ
When jj asked ty lue about who was going to start in the guard position got me 😂💀💀
This show so sick JJ dope with it
One of the best coaches in the league
everyone wants to play for Ty Lue, his lineage is insane.
45:05 in the blank disappointing look on JJ's face has me weak lol
21:28 Thank you for saying this, even as a LBJ stan. Also, those reps on TV making JJ a monster at podcasting. 📈
JJ you the goat
I’m glad he said that about the step over. He fell on the contest. Just like when Brandon Knight fell guarding kyrie, he fell on the contest, not the move
Lol that Doug Collins impression was hilarious 🤣
great podcast jj
Glad JJ went into da mid range, all da best scorers get buckets in da mid range
Man I wish I could relate to all this Doc Rivers praise as sixers fan😅
Doc needs to read that book 😭
Tommy repping the Canto gang🔥🔥
I love when JJ goes on a Rant Hahhaha
After D Roses interview a bit ago you gotta have him on this year!!!!!
41:05 Terrance Mann catching strays jeez LOOOL 🤣
Wish y’all thought to ask about the 2018 JR incident and what truly happened there. Still a great podcast tho, was just a thought🤟🏼
lmfao jj’s rage moment was the funniest moment i’ve seen on this podcast yet 💀
Here’s an idea… Once a week JJ and Tommy share the takeaways for all 30 teams. That would be a dream 😍
Love how Tommy is always repping that Chinese restaurant Bonnie's 😂
i was waiting the whole time for that jr smith moment in game 1 of 2018 finals, wanted to know what's his side of the story, and to add onto it lebron was so upset coz they had a timeout.. well still a great interview.
I know they are in the Clippers “space” but why is only Zubac picture on the wall…
Fantastic interview as always!!! I wish JJ woulda asked Ty what was going through his mind when JR Smith made that boneheaded play in the Finals, but other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
JJ needs to stop sleepin on my Bulls tho........ #SeeRed
32:57 nah the voice change fs validates this story lmfaooo
