- Sir Bradley Wiggins has insisted he was not trying to gain an "unfair advantage" from being allowed to use a banned steroid before major races. The Olympic cyclist told Andrew Marr he took the powerful anti-inflammatory drug triamcinolone for allergies and respiratory problems.

He can hardly string a sentence together. That's despite Marr giving him such an easy ride!
Marr is an establishment ring piece, Tory yes man!
Busted. They gave him that knighthood too quickly, especially a cyclist how stupid considering the infamous nature of the winners.
how is he busted? lol, the cycling governing body granted him permission to use the drug, this isn't an EPO or blood bags scenario lad, and believe me it isn't only bradley who uses these TUE's, i'd predict the vast majority of high level athletes have used them at some point in there careers, if anyone is to Blame its the UCI for not being stringent enough with there laws on what athletes are eligible to take
its the hypocrisy and lies that sickens me.
Everyone else was taking this steroid for performance enhancement but I was taking it for my asthma/breathing on every occasion just before a big tour. The amount of athletes with Asthma is phenomenal considering these are the healthy guys.
I was a teacher at the time Bradley was at school, the child with asthma was prescribed swimming or cycling. Some became very good at it, those kids are now in their late 30s or early 40s and (like me, now in my 70s) still suffer with breathing problems due to asthma and allergies. In my mind excessive numbers of asthmatic sports people now is not a coincidence.
@@lesleyhawes6895 go to sleep Lesley you getting stupid if you don’t have enough rest
the most damning evidence is that he's wrote books and gave a million interviews and not once has he ever said he has asthma
And he claimed to have a fear of needles!
That's why I could never win the Tour de France: I'm not asthmatic enough!
LMAO!
Yeh it’s Amazing that the toughest bike race in the world can be won by a bunch of asthmatics, in my school an asthmatic couldn’t get through carol singing he collapsed😳🤷♂️😂
@@TheMrbc74 Be wasn't called Bradley was he?
@@pizzaboy3946 Bradley or Chris can’t remember😂 but he did collapse during candles are all burning bright……….thump
Bottom line: He didn't break any rules, but he was definitely doping.
is the same meldonium nonsense, i am going to take this drug for a heart problem, diabetic problem, or any other body organ/part problems i don't have, why because it is not on the banned list and it makes me feel better. just because something is not banned doesn't mean you can take it and pretend like you are not cheating, and your excuse is it wasn't on the list.
Guilty as sin
Wild Outdoor Living why is a 40 year old man speaking with upward inflection's like a student, oi cheater ...grow up
Well, here we are
david yule guilty of nothing, doping rules clearly list what substances are banned, Wiggins didn't take any of them.
See through all the bullshit. Marr is a disgrace. The one,and only question that that cheat should have been asked, and wasn't,was...." Sir Bradley, why did you knowingly take a known performance enhancer of concentrated steroids before 3 major cycling events ? "he knew what he was doing as did his team.Hypocrisy and hubris knows no bounds in the modern sporting age of money over competition.
Lance would be proud of sir Bradleys performance.
No he wouldn't. Lance was steely under intense pressure. Bradley, getting an easy ride from Marr, quivers and stutters during his answers.
@@TwentyTwenty90 agree, not a patch on Lance, on the bike or the camera
Seems like Asthma is common on team Sky.
It's contagious.
Lets lay out some simple facts here...
He Cheated
The Last Baron probably, but he did it legally lol
The Last Baron 😂😂
For sure a drugs cheat strip him his knighthood still not come out about it has he to prove what was delivered to him Cheat.
Focking cheater
His Doctor was able to choose the precise dose of triamcinolone injection that would simply put Wiggins back onto a "level playing field" ...and offer absolutely no performance enhancement. - LOL ;)
"To get to an even playing field", this excuse feels so wrong. If you need corticoids to breathe as well as the peloton, you are not the strongest rider and don't deserve to win the race.
Are you suggesting that we should cast away all asthmatics from competing in a sporting events?
@@JosephLycettCycling so if someone has arthritis is it fair that they can't compete on the same level playing field?
@@JosephLycettCycling yes. perhaps compete in the Paralympics....
All his dreams came TUE.
That's brilliant
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have allergies and asthma, but no athlete should be allowed to use any PEDs. You can't ban it on some people and allow it for others that's totally absurd.
Let's imagine that Wiggins got second place in that tour and didn't have the TUE's and the guy who won was foreign and did have those TUE's. I think we would say that Wiggins was robbed of the tour. That is not even mentioning the dodgy package and the doctor losing his laptop. Awful hypocrisy.
Heard it all before.
I'm a doctor and have never given, or heard of a patient being given, triamcinolone to "cure" or even treat (even very severe) asthma, hay fever or any allergic condition.
right? I was given a provental inhaler when I was a boy.
Yep also a doctor and it doesn’t fall on any protocols that I have seen.
Theres your answer right there in front of you. It was used for perforance enhancement. I dont have asthma but have allergies, allergies dont stop you from competing, its ridiculous to think that. An inhaler is one thing, usibg TUE is another
That deep breath at 0:51, when the interviewer says the words “performance enhancer,” Could be me, but possibly a sign of guilt and worry about the question.
yeh he looks like bill "i did not have sexual relations" clinton
But we all know he did have sexual affairs
ST&NLY ST&NLY
Exactly.
Didn't you know a blow job is not sexual relations? So says Bill Clinton.
I don’t understand why anyone would think it’s okay to take a performance enhancing drug that is only legal because it hasn’t yet been made illegal
lt makes me laugh when he says in this interview 'a SPECIALIST' like stressing this word makes it all OK. Specialists are as bent as the athletes they give drugs to!
She Billings Ferrari was a 'Specialist' doctor.
I always feel like doing that thumb pointing thing automatically means someone is lying
I know of suffers who have taken the same medication and it transformes their condition. To say it's performance enhancing is a massive understatement.
He's just a cheating bastard. Many people that have medical conditions just pull out because it means they are not capable of competing. He should be stripped of his knighthood, which I think is always given too early anyway.
He should've coughed a couple of times during the interview, being a severe asthma patient with those flowers next to him...
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman miss Lewinsky "
*Call me Sir, I didn't have an "unfair advantage" it was a Fair advantage because I "medically" couldn't win without it.*
I'm unwell, I'm having problems, I get out of breath when I try to go faster than the fittest cyclists in the World & I'm not Russian, so it's a medical condition & I wasn't lying saying I didn't ever have an injection because I thought the question only meant people without title or Russians using the same drug. lol
The TUE procedure that Wiggins describes is the one that's in place now and not when he was doping. At that point, no specalist recommendation was needed (only team doctor) and only the UCI doctor had to sign off on it. That doctor was Dr. Zorzoli, who has, as far as I know, not been interviewed by UKAD and has also long resigned from the UCI, most likely with a healthy bank account.
Hes a cheat unfortunately.
Asthma that old chestnut... an epidemic amongst pro athletes. lol
It's been well documented that Wiggins is a lifelong Asthma sufferer.
Like I said... Asthma & Gullible = A champions fairy tale. You don't even have to be overly smart to get a TUE or anything testified by a doctor. Especially when there are millions of dollars involved and you got people on your team managing this stuff for you with their life long connections. You gullible people are the ones that keep this going. You want to see super human performances and believe that your "Hero" is an honest and clean man, when there are plenty of other athletes lined up that are just as good as him wanting the same multi million dollar sponsorship deal as him, ready to do whatever it takes to get it. Laughable.
Alex Swan If you say so. Obviously not a qualified doctor who has medically examined Bradley Wiggins, but of course I should take your word for it....
dlkdyscot I'm not naïve at all. Alex is disputing Wiggins is an Asthma sufferer without a) Being medically qualified to do so and b) Never medically examined Wiggins in his life. It doesn't matter what else he says for those very reasons.
you think all medical people are above board and honest individuals.? do you dispute that wiggins has told fibs? he said he had never had an injection in his life. lie no.1 . lie no 2. he justified it by stating that it was going to put him on a level playing field. so by that token every other cyclist should have been able to have had that steroid too . just to keep the playing field level . why should a professional sportsman have access to steroids ? I'll let u believe the asthmatic dilemma then if u like.
The number of endurance sports people suffering from asthma is very high.
I'm starting not to like this bloke one little bit. His explanations and attitude here are self-righteous and unconvincing.
I disagree. When you are faced with loaded questions like he was noting, you can't win. Everything you would answer would be looked at as "fixed" or a "lie". When you are #1, you have a GIANT target on your back, and people will do anything they can to dethrone you.
Least lance was good at lieing lol
And then his teammate Chris Froome who also has "asthma" goes on to win the TFD after Wiggins retires.
Little known fact: Asthma is contagious.
@@brakesforsnakes757 It is if you are on their team. Lol.
Team sky riders were forced to take tramadol and inject vitamins before racing according to an ex team sky pro cyclist. I think it's very sad that a TUE is abused in this way and a banned drug can be taken legally via TUE regulations.
He knows he's a fraud. That's all that really matters. Whilst you can't catch a cheat when they've retired you can keep a close eye on his offspring.
This guy has no shame.
Where is the scientific evidence that TUEs actually level the playing field? You only need a minuscule advantage to be very successful.
David Millar said it was the drug that made him wired, & he took EPO.
why has he never mentioned this 'health' problem before? what health problem! has anyone ever seen him having a problem breathing? He was so cocky he didn't even seem short of breath on winning the event. he is as fit as they come but not fit enough to win with drugs. admit it wriggly Wiggins.
No mention of it in his autobiography
Funny how this story just disappeared.....
Unconvincing defence
What a load of crap.
Wonder if normal asthma suffers can pop to the GP and get some of this magical CURE. The world will be free of asthma right ?
'In 2018, [triamcinolone] was the 106th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than six million prescriptions.' yes people can go get it
Why do we castigate Russia so much when its done by others? I stopped watching cycling after Lance Armstrong, who nearly got away with it
its amazing how all of these world class athletes have asthma ....
It's contagious.
Hahaha if you are that sick you shouldn't be cycling up mountains for 3 weeks in a row what a joke
Sir Injectsalot is right. It was to cure medical condition.
His condition was he was physically incapable of winning the Tour de France without the medication.
He also has a speech impediment whereby he tries to explain medication when all he has ever achieved is cheating in a bike race.
As a suspect sporting "Knight" he's not alone. Sir Mo.
Every Olympic medalist is on steroids
Shoulda been Paxman doing the interview, he'd have ripped him to pieces. Wiggins and Brailsford ought to give their knighthoods to Walsh and Kimmage, they're the only one's with any credibility left in all this.
isn't it shocking this guy has won sportsman of the year and got a knighthood!!!! I have no faith in any judgements made for awards of any kind. but at least they should take these awards away from him now.
Only gullible people who live in la la land believe athletes that go for Gold are clean. Laughable really. This is business, sponsorships, multi million dollar contracts.
Hmmmmm...Seems to be alot of world champions in different sports using these. Wiggins, Farah, Williams sisters, Froome. etc....
The fact that the worlds most difficult endurance test is dominated by Asthmatics is one of the most hilarious things I can think of in terms of pure horse shite!
There is no way in hell an asmatic can ever run or win the tour de france. Ive seen people die from bloody running on a threadmil. They only way they could is with drugs.
No pro cyclist should be allowed to use asthma medicine. I'm sorry if you have asthma you don't get to be a endurance athlete. It's like a swimmer saying I'm have a physical condition that makes me slow so I should be allowed to use swim fins. Or a short guy saying I'm short the basket should only be 8 feet high for me. I'm sorry if you a have a physical condition that makes you unable to compete. You are not going to compete. It's about elite athletes not elite chemists.
Float Uphill in many instances (especially in cycling) asthma and asthmatic conditions can be developed from the sport. Exercise induced bronchoconstriction is especially common in cyclists as it is an incredibly strenuous sport on the lungs, often in cold weather, often on roads around cars and all the associated emissions.
Float Uphill Yeah Im kinda with you but then what about things like contact lenses, insulin...etc
Most ignorant comment of all time.
Wiggins sickens me. I spoke with a GP about the med. Its given when the condition (if he has it) is in crisis. Its not designed to be taken prophylactically. The doctor who prescribed it should be put through his professional bodys misconduct process. Wiggins appears to have no shame or moral compass. I had to laugh having viewed the Wiggins-Skoda advert and thought drugs cheat and emissions cheat working in a perfect synergy.
100% this - Triamcinolone isn't administered like Wiggins had it - it is given in a drip over 24-48 hours.
He is so full of BS... "I'm still struggling with breathing." Take this stuff that will help you breath so much better.
Stinks that Lance Armstrong loses his everything and this cheating tool loses nothing.
Wow. You can tell he's covering something up. Who do they think they're kidding. Ugh.
Isn't it strange that 5 of the last 7 tour de france have been won by cyclists with respiratory problems (Wiggins and Froome)? I mean team Sky shows so much love for people with problems...
Strange how he never mentions it in his memoirs
Funny how testostorone patches were delivered to team sky an the doctors laptop goes missing come on brad m8 were not fools
absolute bs
1:26 'this was about trying to find a way to gain an unfair advantage' bradley, dude, you disapoint me
Damn another one 🤦🏻♂️🥺
This is similar to Sharapova in tennis. She, knowingly took a medication that was performance enhancing even though another, equally as effective at treating the condition, but not performance enhancing was freely available. Sir Brad, didn't break the TUE rules that, probably, every other team was breaching in a similar way. However he used to use an ordinary 'puffer' and finished 4th in The Tour previously. Why did he switch to an alternative known to be performance enhancing? Small gains my friend and the secret squirrel club. Could he have won The Tour using his asthma 'puffer' I think yes, I bet he wishes he'd tried that now.
Strip him drug cheat
It stinks. 3 TUE's before 3 big races. Yeh right oh!!
yeah, not convincing. Hes speaking too fast and stuttering, not El Wiggo that we all know.
Man got guilt all over his face ,nothing he says makes sense over it,never seen him so glittery an nervous, guilty man.
I did not have sexual relations with that woman.
Technically he didnt do anthing 'wrong'...But its like going to a house party and eating all the dip....technically this is not against any written party rules....but you just don't do it.
ROY F I do, every time🌮🌯😜
Who eats dips at party
ROY F = scandalous cheating / wake up man.
@@rivertolka I agree...but it wasn't called cheating....that my point
@@ABC-td7zm Depends what type of party you go to.... But one that has dip....which is necessary to make my point, which you wilfully ignored, in the attempt to be funny, I guess.
The only man who lied better was Lance Armstrong. Wiggins, Froome and Lance same whatsapp group. Never believed him once
Wiggins is the English Lance Armstrong, not sure who is more arrogant.
Shut up sir Bradley your making it worse.
Headlines "Team sky breaks no rules"
UCI need to have a long look at themselves. They granted this on 3 occasions before a major competition... The whole thing smacks - from the individual athlete, to the team, to the governing bodies. Has there been any progress since Pat McQuaid era??
Bradley tell them the parcels you were receiving were new SKY boxes so can watch catch up TV
Clearly this man is uncomfortable answering these questions. Hmmmmmmmm............
This has "I'm a liar" written all over it
Asthma for life....so he takes up cycling with all the dust on the road . haha haha!
They should give him another medal for his audacity :)
best performance since the McCanns
He looks very shook, filthy liar
Sir drug cheater.
durianrider your picture is of a known steroid abuser foh
Funny how all these cyclists have asthma
Samorry Touray lmfao and all the American women gymnastics lol all sick athletes can not even do a tumble without TUE's lol.
They seem to be inlucky with do dgy steak also, you would think they would be more careful with Beef(clembuterol)....Sounds like he has done better at cycling than in Elections.
Little known fact: Asthma is contagious.
If it was all legitimate and ok then why keep the TUE usage a secret? Team Sky should have released the TUE info immediately after each injection / usage.
Would be interesting to see what his pace would be like without the drugs
What an absolute bore fest! He was given permission to take this medication and it should be the doctors taking a battering here. This is like the idiots who do videos on whether Hursts goal went over the line in 66 WC final. Lets enjoy our champions instead of pulling them apart.
Terrible analogy. Wiggins and Team Sky presented themselves as whiter than white. The TUE use at critical moments was worthy of exposure and interrogation by journalists even if ultimately people decide it was legitimate.
the TUE issue is a major loophole for cheating.basically means you can pay off some doctors and get a TUE for almost anything.
they should at least make it a rule that anyone who has a TUE for anything in sport it should be made public and not kept secret.
you can have a TUE but it must be declared publicly that youre taking the drug and why....
Why didn't Marr ask "Since you have suffered with asthma for years, I take it you still take this drug?"
Had a book out after Olympics. No mention at all that he achieved such feats with asthma.
Thats EXACTLY what you would put in a book. No mention. Funny that.
Can't they just show natural skill and talent?
I hope everyone knows it's the same situation with Froome and most of team sky. People seem to get bad asthma when they join team sky.
'Sir' my bollocks.
You were caught, just own up Bradley.
Oh dear..
It’s a bit like Maria sharapova in tennis all over again pushing the boundaries to the limit for financial reward
Can someone explain if he cheated or not? I
Don't watch racing and not sure what's going on....did he take illegal drugs?
He never answered one question but skilfully deflected by using vague language.
Hesitated and stuttered through a fawning Marr interview.
Guilty as charged and many more to out.
You cheated mate, period.
bradley for god sake come on.
i'm not saying he's lying, i'm just saying i don't believe him.
His body language was nit convincing it was very defensive. He took those drugs because he knew he could get away with it. Its amazing because they were injected!!!
He is going to get away with this, but he has lost all his credibility!!!!
