  • Sir Bradley Wiggins has insisted he was not trying to gain an "unfair advantage" from being allowed to use a banned steroid before major races. The Olympic cyclist told Andrew Marr he took the powerful anti-inflammatory drug triamcinolone for allergies and respiratory problems.

I was a teacher at the time Bradley was at school, the child with asthma was prescribed swimming or cycling. Some became very good at it, those kids are now in their late 30s or early 40s and (like me, now in my 70s) still suffer with breathing problems due to asthma and allergies. In my mind excessive numbers of asthmatic sports people now is not a coincidence.

The TUE procedure that Wiggins describes is the one that's in place now and not when he was doping. At that point, no specalist recommendation was needed (only team doctor) and only the UCI doctor had to sign off on it. That doctor was Dr. Zorzoli, who has, as far as I know, not been interviewed by UKAD and has also long resigned from the UCI, most likely with a healthy bank account.

Sir Brad, didn't break the TUE rules that, probably, every other team was breaching in a similar way. However he used to use an ordinary 'puffer' and finished 4th in The Tour previously. Why did he switch to an alternative known to be performance enhancing? Small gains my friend and the secret squirrel club. • @JC-ko1bp

the TUE issue is a major loophole for cheating.basically means you can pay off some doctors and get a TUE for almost anything.
they should at least make it a rule that anyone who has a TUE for anything in sport it should be made public and not kept secret.
you can have a TUE but it must be declared publicly that youre taking the drug and why....
