    Advanced Squad Leader Tutorial #3 - Infantry Movement
    0:00 - Intro
    0:17 - Outline/A Little Housekeeping
    3:10 - Inherent Portage Points (IPP)
    12:09 - Standard Movement
    22:18 - Double Time (CX)
    28:34 - Assault Movement
    31:43 - Dash (not part of SK)
    38:58 - My traditional end of video die roll. What will it be...?
    This third Boot Camp covers all the basics of infantry movement, MMCs, SMCs, support weapon portage points, etc. Infantry bypass movement will be covered in the next Boot Camp.
    The goal of ASL Boot Camp is to present rule and tactical discussions for new and veteran players. New Boot Camp Exercises posted ... well, when I make them (hint: there's no schedule!). Also, if I screw up a rules interpretation (we all do) in any of my videos, PLEASE post in the comments so we can correct it!!!

    Neal you are single-handedly introducing this game to a whole new generation of players. Thanks for all of your hard work, from these videos to your amazing charts.

    A good example of ''Dash" is in the movie Full Metal Jacket. In street fighting, a NVA unit runs from one building to another as the American unit changes magazines.

    “Whip ass across the street” is when you declare a “dash move” 👍🏼

    I played SL way back in the 70s and still play now and then (mostly solo). It's nice to see some refresher training!

    thanks for the housekeeping, i had no idea about the chapter feature.
    I think you missed stating that woods cost 2MF to enter but showed it costing 4 going up hill. Also skipped a couple of other terrains. most relevant I think was brush.
    I think it might also be useful to mention if you use all your MF to enter a single hex moving then you also go CX

    Really enjoying the series - keep it up! Btw, those look like proper "precision" backgammon style dice that you roll at the end. I've been thinking of picking up a pair for ASL... which size are these? There are about 4 sizes and I'm undecided.

    30:44,A4.72 only refers to APh,I don't think you can assault to a different terrain using all of your MF and become CX in APh(or even just use assault movement in APh,i think advance and movement are 2 different things,in APh,you can only advance,but cannot make any movements,right?)

    • @ASLAcademy
      @ASLAcademy  Před rokem

      Oops, you're right. The note I inserted is referring to advance vs. difficult terrain (which is correct if I were talking about advance), but I was talking about assault move and CX. I was mixing up two different phases of movement. Good catch.

      @@ASLAcademy Thanks for the reply,i have one question:can one unit use assault movement and other movements(or mutiple assault movements) in one Mph?The rule book says" and that moves ≤ one Location during its MPh without using all of its MF (including any
      leader/road bonus, but not Double Time), may use Assault Movement",sounds like if a unit choose to do an assault movement,it cannot move anywhere else during its Mph(so this will be its only movement)?

    • @ASLAcademy
      @ASLAcademy  Před rokem

      @@user-dj1yf7gx7w Yes, if you declare Assault Movement you can only move a single Location, whether that costs 1 MF or 3 MF (or 5 MF if you have a leader). If you have MF left they are forfeit. You can't use any remaining MF to keep moving after you move the 1 Location.

    • @user-dj1yf7gx7w

      @@ASLAcademy What about placing smoke or anything else requires MF expenditure but won't change your location?Can i do that before/after assault movement?

    • @ASLAcademy
      @ASLAcademy  Před rokem

      @@user-dj1yf7gx7w Yes, you can do anything AFTER declaring Assault Movement as long as you change no more than 1 location, and don't expend all your MF. You always have to declare AM first, before ANY other action. So a squad could declare AM, then spend 1 MF to attempt smoke in it's own hex (or 2 MF for an adj hex) and without changing a location. They would not be subject to FFNAM while trying to place smoke.
