This full-length aluminum roof rack, for the 2010-2023 5th Gen 4Runner, expands on our lineup of tried and true rack systems. I just installed mine yesterday and I love it! One recommendation I have for the Sherpa team is to give us specs on the wrenches needed before starting the install. Also, having a close up of each of the nuts and bolts for each of the steps could be helpful. I had attached the adjustable mounts to the crossbar using the panhead bolts instead of the hex bolts and I didn't realize it after a while, so I had to go back and reattach using the correct bolts. Otherwise, the instructions were A+ and easy to follow.
TOOLS NEEDED & SPECS:
- 5/32" allen wrench
- 7/16" wrench/socket
- 13mm wrench/socket for the mounting feet
Look no further. I spent 6 months researching roof racks and bought the Crestone and i am so glad I did. The build quality of this rack is insane. You can literally grab the rails and rock the 4 Runner back and forth and not even hear one noise. I am so glad I bought this. This step by step video is awesome. Follow these steps and it is literally a painless install.

Installed mine last week. Quality is top notch, followed this video during the install and it was super easy. The one issue i discovered is after a rain, when i get into the vehicle, the rain that collected in the grooves of the crossbars dumps on me while door is still open (or if window is open). I am considering drilling holes in crossbars to help divert the water. Overall very happy with quality and construction.

Purchased 80/20 brand 10 series t-slot cover and the water drainage issue is solved...
Yo, THANK YOU for this video!! Clear communication and solid editing to show what we need to see without wasting time. I installed my Crestone a few days ago and there is no wind noise or creaking at all! The tips and tricks you showed in this video probably saved me 3 hours of trial and error - I never would have guessed to shove something under the front part to get the height adjustment tight. Also, to whoever said "hey let's give them extra washers in the box, they'll probably drop a few" THANKS BRO, lol! Great product and great installation walk through!

My son (13) and I installed my Crestone on my 23 TRD Pro this morning. This video, along with the online instructions, made it VERY easy. The longest part was adjusting the feet up front, which really didn’t take that long. We had to go back in forth a couple of times getting everything perfect, but it honestly wasn’t that bad. Total time was about 3.5 hours (included moving rails around and adding the accessories I bought), and that included removing the stock TRD Pro rack that uses red Loctite on the bolts.
We have wind speed of about 20mph today with gusts up to near 30mph and the only noise came from the cross wind, and even that wasn’t that bad. Following the instructions and video resulted in absolutely no vibration issues. I’m super glad I went with the Crestone over the Gobi with both quality and aesthetics. Love the way this thing looks on my vehicle.
when i did mine, i used a very small amount of clear silicone caulking on the inside of the metal sleeve, then seated it onto the white sleeve.
Not neccesary but not a bad idea either.
Please deliver the rack sooner!! Ordered it last week, and I’ve got another two weeks before I start going crazy. Lol. Wish Shipping would go a little faster.
All in all, I’m just excited for the upgrade.

This rock is an amazing product in there a great company. But you guys really got a step up the installation video. Close up of the bolts, we don't need to see you...just the product. I had to go to another video to get it done
These instructions were SUPERB! I followed them to the tee and I have no wind noise or rattles of any kind. The only question I have is, do you put the blue loctite on the Allen bolts fastening the side rails to the channels? I applied them to the roof bolts and anything with a nut on the back side, but not the side rails' Allen fasteners. I'm thinking of going back and replacing the Allens with hex head bolts from your site. Allen heads always end up stripping at some point.

You do not need to loctite those bolts going through the side. Especially being allen heads, much more likely to stip those with loctite involved. You can also swap them out with Hex, we used to only offer Hex but the majority of people prefered the button heads so we switched over and truthfuly dont have as many issues as we anticipated being very high quality bolts.
Installing now and the rubber feet extend over the black edging..do I cut the feet, the black edging or do I need to try and slide the black edging down the truck..or cut it..I have 2022 4runner limited
I get a significant whistling noise beginning at 60 mph and gets even louder above 60. I installed the wind fairing flush with the side rails as recommended.
Try adjusting the rack either forwards or backwards. If that does not work reach out to our team! 970-660-8134 they would be happy to walk you through some more steps.

What all wrench sizes are needed? Is a torque wrench necessary?
Great job folks! How different is the front Fairing with the half-height and a light bar?
Only thing that is different is the cut out to allow the lightbar to sit almost flush with the rack.

Question - I'm excited to install my rack, but im concerned that i wont be able to complete the install fully before my loctight dries/sets. Do you think it would be possible to build the rack, set the front feet up, and then one by one unscrew and rescrew with loctight in place? Or is this not an ideal solution?
I know this is late, but Blue loctite is pretty forgiving. According to the website, it takes about 10 min to set and 24hrs to cure. I don't see a problem with going your method, but i wouldn't overthink it.
So the front mounts(non-drilled side), sit on top of the weather strips? You do not cut the weather strip so the mount sits ontop of the paint?

We do not have a video for uninstalling the PRO rack quite yet. We are trying to track a PRO down to film one however.

I installed this rack on my 2020 4Runner about 2 months ago. So far I love it, it's been rock solid, thanks to this very helpful install video. But, I left about a 1/2" gap between the fairing and the roof, and I'm getting quite a bit of wind noise at highway speeds...especially when there's a crosswind. Would a larger/smaller gap help alleviate this?
I would shoot for a smaller gap, closer to 1/4" or tighter even.

I know you sell the Needle half rack for sunroofs. Can I buy the full rack / Crestone and just leave a couple of crossbars out where the sun roof is? I like the full rack appearance but want to use my sun roof
Absolutely, the Crestone is designed around the function of the sunroof so it will not cause any issues for you, even with bars over it.
What Front Bumper upgrade is that on your truck?

@@sherpaec Thank ya. Have you ever thought about giving your cross bars up and down adjustment? Kinda like wescot designs modular roof rack? In some situations having a little lip on the edge is nice.
Might be a stupid question but it’s one detail I look at for potential issues, time stamp 22:59 you can look down the rack side plates and see it warped from the front feet pushing down so hard. I could possibly see this being an issue when a tent is mounted giving uneven weight distribution through the whole rack and roof, are the cross bars going to follow the mounting slots and cause uneven mounting positions?
This definitely happens with good pressure on the front feet. Its a balance of getting them nice and tight, basically turning the side plates into a spring and preloading those feet. The alternative is hard mounting and drilling holes for the front feet which most shy away from for good reason. That said, with any rooftop tent application we highly recommend using our Tent Mounts as they will lift the tent slightly above all of the crossbars, and regardless of a slight bow or completely flat surface you'll want this as it illuminates all vibrations and rattles with a tent sitting up against all the crossbars. It will then only be attached to hard bolted surfaces and make no noise.
How much weight can the rack hold in the center, and how much weight can it hold hanging off the side of the rack? Wondering how heavy of an awning it can handle.
With our HD Awning mounts it can handle up to a 70lbs awning.
Any luck making a video on removing the roof rack for the trd pro? I’ve watched the few videos there are on this and will not be trying the torch method…heard the soldering iron method should work but really want to see a video to see it in progress.
Next time we have one in the shop we will plan to do a video on it. Sadly, a few have had to go as far as welding nuts onto the top of the original roof bolts to get them out. Those TRD Pro racks are pesky. The big key is heat, and not allowing that heat to damage the paint or surrounding materials so the soldering iron technique is a great idea. The torch can be risky.

are the roof mounts waterproof? how does the waterproofing work? i am looking ot purchase one but am weary of water getting in and rust
Our rubber roof seals create a seal so you don't need to use any silicone. Check out sherpaequipmentco.com/pages/the-sherpa-edge
Rubber seals only to cover holes in roof is a concern. Other roof racks do leak probably because installed improperly…other racks require the right amount of RTV silicone sealant to prevent leaks from the holes. If you use the RTV sealant correctly it won’t damage anything.
That said if you install the rack, do you quarantine it won’t leak?
@@user-jm5dw3gm8y I ended up purchasing this roof rack in february. And installed the same day it arrived. So far no leaks at all; super easy and straight-forward installation. The rubber seals are sandwiched by a bolt and washer and the fit is really tight. Its held up so far since I've installed it and havent had any leaks through numerous washes and rain. Did not use any silicone; purely just the included hardware and seals.

Where is the best place to put a led bar on the roof rack?
Up at the front using our half height fairing. Designed for LED lightbars. We have lots of mounting options available on our site.
Can you go through a car wash with the rack mounted?
A touchless carwash is ok. Any car wash with rollers or things that make contact with the vehicle is not recommended.

If it’s product related we will happily replace any faulty parts or we can help troubleshoot if it’s unrelated. It’s common for windshield leaks to occur if you recently had the windshield replaced. We have found many of those in the process of chasing wet headliners or floor boards.
For the Price $1399 no way I will go with Prinsu the original not a copy cat for only under 1k.
