  • Twilight: 2000 - Roleplaying in the WWIII That Never Was.
    Out now: freeleaguepubl...
Time to turn the tide. Here is your chance to take on the role of a survivor in the aftermath of World War III.
The new edition of the classic roleplaying game Twilight: 2000 goes back to the roots of the franchise with a boxed set for sandbox roleplaying in the devastation of World War III.
Twilight: 2000 will be released in the first half of 2021, in partnership with Game Designers’ Workshop and Amargosa Press. This will be the fourth edition of the classic apocalyptic RPG, the first being released by Game Designers' Workshop in 1984. Just like the original version, the new edition is set in a year 2000 devastated by war - now in an alternate timeline where the Moscow Coup of 1991 succeeded and the Soviet Union never collapsed.
In the game, players take roles of survivors in the aftermath of World War III - soldiers or civilians. Their goal, beyond surviving for another day, can be to find a way back home, to carve out their own fiefdom where they are, to find out more about the mysterious Operation Reset, and maybe, just maybe, make the world a little bit better again.
The core gameplay uses a "hexcrawling" system established in the post-apocalyptic Mutant: Year Zero and survival fantasy Forbidden Lands RPGs (both Silver ENnie winners for Best Rules, in 2015 and 2019), developing it further to fit the gritty world of Twilight: 2000. The core rules are built on the Year Zero Engine used in those games (as well as in the ALIEN RPG), but heavily adapted to fit Twilight: 2000 and its focus on gear and gritty realism.

I pledged into this as soon as I saw it on Kickstarter. A very long time back, I played a game that was mostly Dark Conspiracy, but also included aspects of Twilight 2000. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my boxed set next year. Hopefully, the pandemic is over by then so I can get it out on the table with my friends.

Third edition introduced a new mechanic that was very detailed, but did take a while to get used all the conditional modifiers. This made weapon choice have a real impact and changing weapons depending on the scenario part of your tactics. I hope forth ed can get the balance right between keeping the story flowing and having a simplistic D&D style combat, i.e. a revolver fires at a similar rate to a smg, or people using an AR-15 in hand-to-hand.

Operation Reset!! I ran a group of characters from Krakow to being given the decision to either go to the US or stay in Europe, But Operation Reset was a cool adventure.

i like the alternate reality too, beacuse im guessing it can come across to some people as Free League was trying to make a political statement if they tried to make a dystopian future based on were we are now. And this way, it creates a filter between the player and how things turns out in the game. More tongue-in-cheek maybe. Not to be taken TO seriously even if deals with serious themes. :)

Hopefully that’s not the case. Stores may still not get it on the 16th but your copy should be arriving soon. Thank you for being patient, Andrew. We hope you’ll be pleased once it does arrive.

It’s because this was primarily streamed on our show and I put it on Free League’s channel to help their audience.

No need to get worried. :) I just wanted to help as much as possible and since I also produce content on this channel I wanted to make sure their audience got to see it.

It was always an alternate reality anyway...anyone with experience with the American and Russian militaries and their respective technology, training, and equipment could tell you that the Warsaw Pact would have been immediately smashed in any conventional ground-sea-air conflict with NATO.
