    In one of my 29 gal tanks, I have a king Betta with a school of 6 penguin tetras, 8 scissor-tail rasboras, standard fin albino bn plecos, 2 nerites and 1 mystery snail. Betta is pretty chill with all of them. The biggest rivalry in the tank is between the plecos and mystery snail....the snail likes to crawl into the plecos cave and the plecos always decides to not so gently kick it out!

    I tried a Mystery Snail with my Betta and it definitely didn't work well... 5 gallon tank... the Betta was super aggressive towards it. I moved the Mystery Snail to a 15 gallon and now it is super happy and is surprisingly fast for a snail! But I think it's just my Betta's super territorial mindset.

    I have a 25g with a male crowntail betta (Neil). He has some guppies, some CPDs and 2 juvenile ancistrus for company. It's one of my favourite tanks and it gives me zero problems. The betta occasionally flares at the larger guppies, but he's just flexing. It never amounts to anything. The tank produces a lot of fry and I'm constantly pulling fry out as the numbers grow. He does chase the fry now and then, but the tank is heavily planted with Elodea densa in the back and he just can't get through it very well with his long fins. I've seen some people online say they've had problems with CPDs and Bettas, but I've had zero problems there and I think they're a great combination, although there is a compromise re the temperature. Thanks for a great vid guys. Be lucky

    I would give a word of warning, keep a spare 5g tank handy in case things go south. Everything was fine in my tank for about a year (betta, mystery, ember tetras) but something shifted and my betta threw "fish are friends" out the window and ate one of the tetras. Miss Chunky too :c Changed the whole dynamic and I had to run to the store and buy whatever I could find on the shelf to separate. It's sad because I think she genuinely enjoyed swimming with the tetras, they'd even follow her around sometimes but I couldn't keep them together after that. All the poor tetras were huddled in a corner of the tank most of the day... it was sad and now I'm shy a bunch of money buying another tank.

    The betta we have now is in a twenty long with an odd assortment of fish. His tank mates are otto's, porkchop rasbora, and amano shrimp and two hillstream loaches. (these two loaches were not thriving in the tank with their peers) I've had these guys in this tank for about two years with no issues. This sounds like an awesome looking tank in terms of the combo of fish - lots of colour and movement, I'd guess. I particularly love ember tetras. But I have to say that 5g seems way too small ... most of those are schooling fish, and a school is usually defined as at least 5-6, and I know that the bigger the school I have, the more active and relaxed my fish are. Like my school of pygmy cories (16) is far less shy than the group of 5 napoensis cories, and they are much less shy than the 1 panda cory I have left from a previous group. Have heard the same about kuhli loaches too. I also had one ember left and never saw him - wouldn't even come out to eat while I was nearby. But after I moved and got settled, I added 5 more, and he was out and about all the time with them. Ever thought of upgrading to a 20g, and filling out the schools? As much as you love the tank now, I'd guess it would be even more stunning with those larger groups, and the layers of fish at different levels of the tank. 💜💚💙

    I've only tried tank mates with one betta (she was still pretty small like 0.75 inches) in a 10 gallon, 3 endlers, 5 neocaridinia and she was pretty territorial and wouldn't let them eat when I put food in but I think that's because she was really underfed when I first got her

    Love this subject! You are one of the few people who talk about companions for Bettas!
    One tiny critique: what kind of betta? Splendens? I had 3 Rubras in a community tank. Problem was the current. Bettas, tetras (neon, rummy nose)and rasporas worked perfectly fine. I wouldn’t keep them with corys, as they are more nervous and hit the betta space.
    Forgot to mention: tank size was 250l (~65gallons).
    Forgot to mention 2: bettas are very much character animals. I kept them with gobys. Some bettas great for one male way too much stress.

      Probably the danios? At some point the goldfish may need at least a 6ft tank - they can get to around a foot long if they see common goldfish. If they are fancy goldfish they should be ok in a 4ft tank when full grown.

    My male half moon is in a 20g will a Hillstream Loach, 6 Otos, and a small school of Calico Endlers (lots of places to hide and lots of food). I also have a ton of snails (3 nerites and 2 rabbit snails that'll move into a larger tank once they're a bit bigger). However, Peacock Gudgeons DID NOT WORK. I put 3 juveniles in there a few months back, before the HSLs, Endlers, and some of the snails. It was a disaster. They were chasing my betta and harassing him to the point to where he was hiding and I could tell they were eating his fins. I pulled them out after only a day in the tank or else my poor betta would've been toast. 😢

    • @LaRosi0114
      @LaRosi0114 Před 5 měsíci

      I also wanted to add that I know you've mentioned endlers not being great fish with a betta due to their activity level. Now, my Betta is extremely active at about 2 years old. I tend to have some areas of the tank with a little heavier flow for the Otos and HSLs and some areas with a lot less to no flow for the betta. Let me tell you, my Betta has happily adapted. I've even seen him swimming in the air stone bubbles on purpose, just like the Otos and HSLs do. He has also learned how to propel himself through the heavier current with shorter bursts of energy instead of fighting the current and he's a very happy fish. So if you have a very lazy Betta, maybe stick with less active fish. But if you have a crazy active Betta, I would say give Endlers a try. ❤

    I’m not sure if you guys will see this but I have a 40gal breeder that’s planted, has driftwood, rocks, rock hides, stratum plant substrate, black sand, and some live plants that hang off the sides of the tank for aquaponics and some bamboo (I’m also trying to grow some pothos but I only have 2 leaf clippings), It is heated to around 78-80 degrees F, and I want a community tank with multiple different species. I was thinking about having a betta fish (maybe a female or short fin male) as the centerpiece fish and some schooling fish and bottom dwellers in the tank but I’m not sure what I should get and if it’s a good idea. My tank has been cycling for 6 months now and I don’t plan on getting fish until I get more plants to fill out the open space and then wait maybe a month to make sure those plants are thriving and are healthy before getting fish in there. But if anyone has any recommendations for a 40gal community tank with warm water (betta or not, I just want to know some ideas for the tank) I’d like to know. Criticism and advice is appreciated ❤️
    Also- I have a spare 3.7gal and 10gal tank in case anything happens (the 3.7gal was used for quarantining live plants to make sure there were no invasive snails attached to them)

    Huge disclaimer for this video. It depends on the individual betta! Even if it's a female. My female betta ate a chunk out of the belly of a ember tetra yesterday. Poor tetra was floating in the water and died shortly after. The betta was constantly going after following the ember tetras, as if sniffing at them. I never thought it would actually prey on a fully grown ember tetra. And I don't think the ember tetras did either. They weren't running away so fast from it. So I thought it was all good and just mild aggression. But both me and the tetras were wrong. I will not keep that betta with any nano fish any more as it will prey on them to eat.

    • @bobbda
      @bobbda Před 2 lety +1

      Lesson to be learnt here is that if you see your betta stalking or sniffing at your nano fish from behind at a deceivingly slow and peaceful pace , that's a huge red flag that it's trying to eat a chunk out of it.
