Earlier this year, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), an international body of UN scientists, delivered a "final warning" to drastically cut global emissions in order to prevent the heating of the planet past 1.5 degrees Celsius. As the exponentially accelerating effects of the climate crisis have become more apparent in recent years, so too has activism to demand urgent action from governments. In the UK, a movement known as Extinction Rebellion (XR) first emerged in 2018, and then proliferated around the globe. XR has helped popularize the spread of civil disobedience tactics in the contemporary environmental movement. But what is the movement's theory of change? How does XR seek to proceed from direct action tactics to systems change on a timescale that matches the rapidly degrading state of our the earth's ecological systems? Roger Hallam, co-founder of XR and leader of the activist organization Just Stop Oil, joins The Chris Hedges Report for a conversation on tactics and strategy to save the planet, which ultimately requires transforming the system.
Just Stop Oil will be staging a series of slow marches around the streets of London on April 24th: juststopoil.org/2023/04/15/ju...

Divide and conquer is the root of our collective square stupidity (emotional, intellectual &spiritual), and there are Homo sapiens parasiticus, (the pseudo elites) making „profit“ out of it.
Only collective intelligence is able to solve the problems created by collective square stupidity.
We must dissolve the inherited bad social habits, and transform them into good ones.
By the way, the centerpiece of democracy and crowd intelligence is the public communication space, the only place we can unite.
Because the media is sabotaging this, not by accident , we must create our own space to make that right…
Or in other words: We should study and practice Hoòponopono (doing the right thing the right way)

So true. The whole climate hoax is designed to bring about revolution, just like the plandemic, BLM and the transgender movement. The Club of Rome, which became the World Economic Forum, identified climate change as an excuse for their power grab back in the 1950s, long before it became fashionable. These are the people behind the climate alarmism and the lockdown/mask/vaccine authoritarianism, and they even have among their members Alicia Garza, one of the Marxist founders of Black Lives Matter, who was one of their Young Global Leaders in 2004, so it's reasonable to suspect that they encouraged the huge reaction to George Floyd's death.

So, where did this 97% figure come from?
From a study by a professor in Australia named John Cook at the University of Queensland,
And what this study purported to do was review the abstracts of 11,000 climate science articles. Abstracts?
Well ...No one's going to read 11,000 climate articles. Even a whole team of graduate students is not going to read through 11,000 science articles. So they read the abstracts.
The abstract is always that one paragraph summary at the head of any academic journal article.
Here's the abstract to the Cook papers first sentence.
"We find that 66.4% of abstracts expressed no position on anthropogenic global warming."
66%--two thirds of the papers express no opinion on human-caused global warming.
32.6% percent endorsed anthropogenic global warming. 0.7% percent rejected it entirely and 0.3% were uncertain.
    Okay.
So that means a third of those papers had an opinion on human-caused global warming. So, the next sentence says this:
"Among abstracts expressing a position on human-caused global warming, 97.1% endorse the consensus positions
that humans are causing the warming."
Somehow this has become 97% of all scientists, when it's 97% of a third of scientists.
Or, you might put it this way.
    66% of scientists publishing
in the field have expressed no firm opinion
on the matter. Or, Among all the scientists who agree with the consensus........are all the scientists who agree with the consensus.
That would be an adequate way of saying it.
Some of the articles turned out to be not really about
climate science at all. One article that was billed as a science article was about U.S. media coverage of climate change issues.
Strangely, in those 11,000 papers, there's not a single
one from Richard Lindzen of M.I.T. He's the most prominent member of the climate science community, who has been publishing on the subject since 1961. None of his papers were
included...he isnt saying what they want him to say...
And yet, this phrase ...97% of scientists agree. Or believe in, right? And this banner splattered all over CZcams and Facebook?
It's clear to me...that the climate establishment has become as intolerant as any department of gender studies on any college campus, and for much the same reason. Its BULLSHIT!
While you dont have to share that sentiment do so understanding that... the only difference between YOU and ME???
Im the one who cared to look.

Which part of the video are you referring to, or are you referring to a separate discussion? It's interesting, statistics are very easily skewed and manipulated. Although Roger has done his homework, he's made clear he wants to connect on an emotional level, as that is when people will be mobilised into action against injustice. The scientific research is definitely important, but I don't need the figures to know that what I'm experiencing first hand is real. Last summer in England, a country known for wet and mild weather, there were wildfires, including just down the road from my house, and beyond causing people to lose their homes. And now in Spain, where I am now the temperatures have been nearing 30c/85f in April. I see that in Asia it's been around 45c / over 100 fahrenheit.

The elites pretend to make decisions based on reason (Voltaire's ideal), but insterad act in a self-serving manner. It was a good analysis, but no one seemed to pick up the challenge to propose some kind of remedy. In fact, one could argue that the elites are even more entrenched than before? It also seems that they have changed, from an intellectual aristocracy, into a brutal materialist kleptocratic oligarchy. I also think that we should not beome fixated on "one thing" such as climate change (simultaneoulsy and hysterically rejecting plausible solutions, such as nuclear power), but we need to seriously plan the future of humanity. Generally, i have the same view and the base of thinking about the deceptive politication, capitalization, manipulation etc on climate issues and the any legislation efforts to realizing all of those system by the some NGOs, regime of govts, and capital elites, globally.
But firstly, i have to mentione that in my opinion is that the carbon leap on climate crisis are mainly caused by (1). The massive industrialization and fabrications, especially on the production of mass individual comsumers products and services.
(2). The point no.1 is very well supported by the hard and bloody efforts in spreading of the neoliberalism system that ignited in much more scale for the capital elits to wage more consumer products innovations and its economic investment.
(3). Those two points surely requires a lot of energy and other natural resources usage that results in much higher and faster carbon leap.
(4). Meanwhile, those massive industrialization dan fabrication era is under the hand of capital elites that drives and fund politician and regime of the govts to give those elites the elitic favourable regulations.
So, my opinion concludes that we - whether as the proletar class, working class, excecutives, elites, or whatever you name it - have to amid and willing to sacrifice for waging the reducing of industrialization and fabrication, mainly and especialy on mass individual consumers products of industries while carry out the research -at least in the level of theorities-on finding another green and renewable energy sources to offer that doesn't never offered by the rulling elites of globalist. People have to know and understand what xcactly the fundamental main and core subjects that we're gonna hit and attact in that resistance movement.
Bcoz we have to have some concrete alternative of solutions to offer to the people and to compete the elits monopolistic ideas and regulations, that is ours is more humane, logic and sane culturally..to gain the massive people approval to assembly that (you named it) "parallel civil resistance organization".

If the principal means to derisk Civilization is to choose techniques and associated technology to cover probable catastrophic failures in the system of managing and maintaining a stable society, then eliminating the menace created by those who exploit defensive actions we're obliged to make provision for is top of the lists of things to educate people about.

  • @decentrifytech
    @decentrifytech Před rokem +3

We are all in the complaining and educating phase but if we are not implementing any solutions or any live-working models to show people there is an alternative to consumerist capitalism, it will do no good!
The system isn't going to change and the free market runs on fossil fuels. Most people are not going to change because they are too comfortable with the system - sure they know that we are on a path to extinction but they are not going to do the necessary cutbacks and forgo their luxuries. And sure, they know they are wage slaves and being screwed but capitalism makes their enslavement bearable so they wont revolt en masse
Here are some talking points I want to discuss:
    Food:
fossil fuels are the only way we can feed 8 billion people with the current system we have in place. Even if we decentralized everything and say we did vertical farming in every city and village, you are going to need to use some fossils fuels for fertilizer and initial establishment. Billions of people are so conditioned to going to the grocery store, it is hard for them to conceive of going to a vertical farm to get their food.
    Transportation & Logistics:
The System and billions of people are conditioned to accept market capitalism - one that depends on wasteful international trade and transportation to ship products around the world in order to satisfy market capitalism. How do we even begin to unwind that? Entrenched power has too much power and control to let that go! How do we un-brainwash billions of people out of market capitalism conditioning? People, with their Netflix and CZcams, are complacent and lazy to become their own producers if we were to decentralize everything and start producing locally again - they are so conditioned to being wage slaves they don't want that responsibility.
Secondly, going all electric isn't the solution either. If you do the math, it takes as much energy to mine, refine and ship rare earth materials to build electric vehicles as it does to burn fossil fuels in combustion engines, so there is no real net carbon offset.
Public transportation is a solution but that takes massive capital and is a public utility project - so that goes to local cities and states, whose vested interests are allied with the fossil fuel industry. How do we even force them to build public transportation? And then once again, you are fighting conditioning of people who see mass transit as for 'the poor."
    Social Conditioning to Market Economics
How do you undo decades of market economic social conditioning? People are so fearful of losing what little they have even though capitalism can take it away in a heartbeat! How do you convince people that after 3, 4 or 5 decades of work, who might own a home and have a nice life, to cut back on their way of living because they feel they've earned it after so much time and effort? (rightfully so - and I am talking about the rank and file workers of the 99% class, not the 1%) I see Extinction Rebellion protests blocking transit and most people hate them for it because its an inconvenience for them - they are just trying to get to work so they can survive. How do you win over that person who does not understand the complexity of the situation they are in?

    • @ivandafoe5451
      @ivandafoe5451 Před rokem +1

Your points are valid but you are wrong about continuing to rely on fossil fuels for many obvious reasons.
We must convert our economy away from fossil fuel usage into renewable energy as fast as possible. We urgently have to lessen our dependence on highly refined, imported fossil fuels and on our centralized power grids by producing our own electricity, using our homes and buildings as platforms for wind, solar, geothermal and heat pump technology.
Dependency on centralized power sources means a dependency on centralized societal power that can and will control our lives by any means possible. If Russia can cut off the gas to Europe then anyone can do it to anyone else anywhere.
The indifference, apathy and despair of the public has indeed been manufactured by and for the benefit of a corporate elite that needs the rest of us less and less.
With so many technical advances available, they now consider our lives to be of little or no use to them and are acting accordingly.
If we consider our lives of use to US...then we had better start doing something together to save ourselves...the sooner the better.
Individualism and survivalism are no more than slow suicide...we have to work together before it's too late.

These two guys profess to care about people. Inhibiting the building of coal fired power in Africa (many projects have been cancelled in the last 3 years) is keeping those people in extreme poverty. The most verifiable effect of increasing CO2 on our planet is the drastic increase in plant growth. This is a good thing. Keeping people in poverty is evil.

What will crucially influence the effectiveness of civil disobedience etc is tolerance by the general public. So far it's - rather passively - onside; but should the disruption becomes more widespread, as it must to be effective, public support will wane. This is the moment the government will pounce, believing it now has popular support to do so. At that point, things could get really ugly, in terms of repressive response. On the other hand - no plausible alternative way forward is on offer.

I'm not worried about the approx. 0.043% atmospheric CO2 heating up the earth. If anything keeps me up at night is the earths declining magnetic field strength. It's weakening in perfect lockstep with the rising CO2 level. The earths magnetic field protects life from harmful solar and cosmic radiation, and the more of it that can get through to ground level, the more the land and oceans release CO2. It's like being in a microwave oven and the power slowly being turned up, and there is absolutely nothing humanity can do to stop it. Sooner or later while our protective magnetic shield is down, we get hit by either a Carrington or Miyaki Event, a direct hit by an large X class solar flare, and the global electrical grid will go down for a decade. We are so dependent on that electrical grid, 90% of humanity could die in a month if it all failed. The rising CO2 level is really just a symptom of the changes, over the 40 year period satellites and weather balloons have tracked the CO2 rise they've also tracked a 1% decrease in upper troposphere humidity, that in and of itself can cause 16 times more cooling effect than the CO2 rise in the same time frame.

    • @tabularasa0606
      @tabularasa0606 Před rokem

CO2 levels have been rising by 33% There's now 33% more CO2 in the atmosphere than there was before the industrial revolution. Using 0.043% is a distraction tactic used by deniers, trace gasses can have huge impacts. A few grams of poison can kill a man that weighs 100kg. Percentage wise it is nothing, he'll still die. Also you don't have to worry about the magnetic field, it won't go down, that's just another conspiracy theory, no scientist actually thinks it will be gone, it just goes through cycles.
