- I made my own citrus bitters at home a few years ago, but it was not a great success, today I am making homemade apple bitters from a recipe in a book, and it works a lot better!
Cheers!

Tim is going to be bitter that he isn't first.
I see what you did there!!
No, I'm not bitter. I'll be #1 AMARO!!!!
I love that your solution to the problem of storing multiple jars of tinctures was one BIG jar of tinctures. I'm glad you were able to salvage your efforts. My failed experiments tend to go down the drain.
LOL yeah I hate waste!
Thank you for making this, I will be watching this with my morning coffee and amaro.
Hey! Thanks for watching!
Great ideas. Thanks!
You are so welcome!
Those apple bitters sound awesome. Will be perfect for any number of fall drinks in a couple of months.
Totally! I’m looking forward to using them. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing this! Logically your method would seem to make sense. I have people ask me that all the time if they can just blend a bunch of tinctures to make bitters. Now I have a great video to reference and link to. Those black tea lavender bitters sound delicious!
Thanks! the lavender bitters taste mostly like lavender, but they are pretty good!
Really interesting! Might have to give those apple bitters a try as I've been experimenting with different old fashioneds lately
You should! It's pretty easy and fun!
It's always worth experimenting
Totally!
Never even considered making my own bitters. Mostly just syrups. A lot to think about. Good episode and again, great graphics!
Thanks Adam! It's pretty easy!
PETE!!!! This was awesome!!! I would def make a Rum Old fashioned with these!!! My finger snap cocktail thing isn't working at all CHEERS!!!!!!
Yeah Rum OF would be dope!
I made some lavender Bitters a few years ago. Left them in the pantry and forget about them. Kind of afraid to open them now! 😬 Yep, use that base all up! Wish I was up for the weekend so I could pick up my bitters! Cheers my friend! Enjoy the sun!
Next time you’re up let me know!
i need those apple bitters sounds so good
Pretty easy to make!
Alack and alas, I'm afraid that I am no longer in Portland, but would that I were! Those homemade bitters sound absolutely lovely - kind of you to share them with the world!
Aw! Where are you at? I could send you some.
@@UnclePete Far afield - I've found myself in London! I'm afraid that I don't know how the UK feels about that sort of thing in the mail, but extraordinarily generous of you to offer!
Oh nice! I’m going to be in London next month. Got any bar recommendations?
@@UnclePete Oh, lovely! I absolutely have a few recommendations, though I would say that my experience here is generally more centered on the city's wine bars. Caveat aside, the cocktails at the incomparable Sager & Wilde in Bethnal Green are absolutely worth making time for (as, indeed, is their food and wine), and the spritzes at Shoreditch's Manteca might well convert you.
On the off chance that you are seeking out a wine bar, I cannot recommend Noble Rot highly enough. Extraordinary by the glass list, and an excellent menu to pair with.
Enjoy your time in London!
I just purchased a lovely little bitters dasher bottle so I’m keen to make some apple bitters
I like a fun bottle. Make bitters! Easy and fun!
Special-tea bitters! You might have to trademark that.
You are on fire today!
@@UnclePete These experiments are awesome. I've had a bottle of everclear and shopping list of bittering agents and other flavorings for about however long this pandemic has been going on. One of my hang ups was do I infuse things separately or together. I kind of just got stuck and did nothing. Eventually I'll embrace no rules and try something out. What's the worst thing that can happen?
Right on! I recommend following a recipe, but you know, just go for it!
For the apple 🍎 🍏 bitters I would use that in an old fashion with applejack or Calvados. Your approach to bitters is similar to Canadian Whisky which each grain is distilled and aged separately then blended. For you base I would get #4 or #6 char staves and drop that in the mixture for 24 hours (tasting along) the add some balsamic vinegar and some water to brighten it. To bad we are not close enough to try it.
Oh that’s a good idea! I might have a charred stick around here someplace, thanks!
Dried ingredients (like most teas) seem to infuse very well in alcohol. So you may eat to infuse at that stage ad opposed to infusing the water
ok!
Thanks for the video, I love making bitters. I have been curious about a tincture library. As a fellow Portland resident I am always on the lookout for different citrus, where did you find the bergamot if you don’t mind me asking? Thanks
Thanks for watching! Bergamots show up at new seasons every winter, along with Seville oranges and pomelos and the like.
@@UnclePete thanks for the tip, will have to check them out. I found Seville oranges at barbur world foods and made a lovely super juice with them
I would like to learn how to make bitter. Please how can I go about it?
just dive in bud

Hi, Isnt Cinnamon and cassia the same thing ?
I'm not 100% sure. maybe?
Citron? You mean like... Lemon? Or does "citron" has a different meaning where you are? Great video otherwise!
Citron is another lemon like citrus fruit. I’m not sure what the difference between them is but I’ve seen both at the store.
