hi there! what would be the signs of a falling HPFP pump ? I have to say that I have very rough cold starts ..the engine starts very hard and then runs with lot lot of misfires. My injectors had been clean and tested and I also changed the ignition coil. On the OBD the pressure provided by the HPFP was around 5 bars...but I suspect to be the HPFP ..what do you think ? thank you !
I’m an absolute novice when it come to car repair but I was able to save myself $1500 so g this simple repair myself. Keep up the great work!
Incredible video, thanks for the detail in both the description of what you're doing and the actual video of how you do it. One of the best DIY channels I've run across.
Got the fuel pump rebuilt by the link you have here. Great work came back pretty fast and was able to find out what was wrong and if it had been rebuilt before (yes) also I was glad to hear that it was an OEM. Money well spent. Thank you.
Man got everything I need for my coop you a blessing 💯
Thank you for this video! It really helped my son change out my daughters hpfp on her mini. We even bought the pump from where you recommended. You saved us close to $2000!!!!!! Thank you thank you!!
This was awesome. Turned on the video and did the replacement right along side of you. Thanks!!
Thanks for the tip on the lip fuel line removal. Saved my day 👍
I did the elec connection once the pump was out of the head. Much easier. Thanks for your help.
Very detailed video, as usual, thanks! Just bought a HPFP for my daughter's 2008 Cooper S from FCP Euro for $550 with a lifetime warranty. That's pretty much the only place I buy parts for the Mini and my Audi. All OEM parts, great prices, all backed by a lifetime warranty. Prost!
Wow, I'm from the UK the dealership is 2 years warranty and aftermarket only 12 months... You're very luck over there.
721.49$ USD
Very informative video :) Thanks for your work!
Another great video... loving this channel
Thank you 🙏
Thank you 👍😀 greetings from Switzerland.
Thank you ever so much for posting this great video. Very helpful.
Excellent video!
Thanks just finished and its was a breeze thanks!
Great video. Helped me out a lot!
Really love the tips for avoiding a specialty tool for pulling that stunt fuel line. Thanks a bunch!
what a very informative video. thank you
Thank you for watching! 👍
@@ProjectMini Hi your link to buy a new pump don't work. how can I reach those guys pls? thanks
I try and fix it right now 👍
Should be working now
Great video, CAUTION don't buy from the guy on eBay selling pumps for $115 to $140 dollars, his pumps are worn out garbage
Thank you 🙏
I like the idea of preventative maintenance but here in the UK high pressure fuel pumps are £500+ Unless anyone can point me somewhere else!! Love your channel by the way. I’ll attempt anything but the timing chain!!!
The hpfp is expensive everywhere but when it fails you don’t have any choice but to buy one. Luckily it one of the easiest jobs to do on these cars. The timing chain isn’t anything that you can’t do yourself either. It’s only like 22 bolts if I remember correctly
Project Mini short of a Sports cat/cat replacement pipe, mine is ready for a Stage 2 tune. Handling first though. Sway bars then maybe springs. Don’t want to go full coil overs as it’s my daily runner so needs to stay comfortable. Std suspension isn’t too bad to be fair.
I have one question, do you need to disconnect the ground battery?. I'm going to replaced HPFP this weekend. Thanks!
there is some kind of pressed in piece inside that key at timestamp 16:10. is this a significant orientation?
Great video, Having a starting problem with my 2009 S, Only when engine is cold need to crank 3-5 times before the car start..... Car running good after that during the day until the next morning.... Could that be also my HPFP?
It could be, that’s actually what i would check first
Hey dude
I’ve just done mine, but at the same time, broke the black fuel line.
I bought a new one but how would you do to undo the other side of this pipe, which is located under the engine ?
Hey man I recently got a mini and the fuel pump isn't getting power. The fuel pump relay works after checking with a ohm meter and I found that the fuel relay is getting power even with the key out. I let the car sit over night while I did some research and when I came back to the car in the morning I noticed the fuel pump relay was hot like it had been on all night I feel like some thing is up with the wiring or fuse box, but I'm just a diyer and I'm new to these cars, for now I had to jump the fuel pump straight to battery battery power to get it home to avoid paying a tow truck. I bought a Haynes manual but I found no good info my car is an 09 mini s.
What sort of symptoms do u get with a faulty pump ?
Hi buddy. Do you know what could be CC ID 031 code? Tks in advance
Hello, Watching your videos gave me the confidence to try some repairs on my 2013 Cooper S. I have a question. I bought an original equipment HPFP and it came without any gaskets. I did ask when buying it if it had all gaskets I would need and I was told that it did. SO, does the HPFP fuel not require gaskets? Also the pump on mine looks different than yours. The high pressure and low pressure line on mine mount into a housing that bolts onto tot he side of the pump housing. Any idea why the difference? Any help will be appreciated.
The difference is that yours is an N18 and mine is an N14. The procedure is the same though
@@ProjectMini Thank you.
I bought a new pump and the required adapter - Part 12 51 8 638 006 - to be able to install the new high pressure fuel in my 2013 MINI Cooper S N18. The vendor will not tell me how to wire the part up.
The original wiring harness has two wires going to it a black one and a white one. The adapter - Part 12 51 8 638 006 - has white wire and a white wire with a green tracer. Does the white wire on the adapter go to the white wire in the harness and the white wire with green tracer go to the black harness wire? That makes sense to me. Have you tried changing the different style pump and do you belie3ve my theory on the wires go is correct?
Hi bro. I follow all your steps and The problems has started from high pressure fuel pump and wiring harness, I have replaced HPFP and HP fuel sensor and wiring too after that I have got problem with intake camshaft sensor. I got theses trouble codes. 277A, 300C, 2C58 and 2789. Help me please. Thank you
I paid $130 for mine remanufactured, been perfect since i replaced it
Could this cause the half yellow engine light to come on?
Great video I changed hpfp too but low pressure line doesn’t build up pressure again what can be wrong?
Main fuel pump, filters, lines etc
Low pressure pump in gas tank
doesthis solve the rough idle issue?
Does anyone know if it is the same pump in my Peugeot 508 with 1.6 litre turbo engine?
do you have a video of replacing the injectors?
What other symptoms would cause the HPFP to go bad?
My car sputters at high speeds and quick acceleration. No CEL yet
Checked my spark plugs, coil packs, o2 sensor and replaced my valve cover.
Currently @ 94k miles on my S n18

@@ProjectMini Thank you! I’ll check my Ultra Gauge 👌🏼
I have the late model n18 hpfp I’m swapping today, I’m curious to see how much different this swap will be, since it’s a two piece pump. This version seems so easy.
how did it go? I have a late N18(2013) and i might need to replace my hpfp.
@@CakeEater23 lmfao my friend costed me a new engine. But your gonna have to make sure the cam follower lobe is flat, so use a socket to rotate your crank and with your other hand make sure the lobe is flat where you took off your hpfp. It’s that easy just make sure the socket was removed before you start it or it gets expensive fast
@@CakeEater23 if you have ig or fb you can hit me up on there if you need more information
@@ryanvalenti9870 what did you do that cost you an engine?
@@CakeEater23 I had my friend turning the crank while I felt for the lobe to bottom out. Said ok we’re good and he left the socket on the crank… I never checked after I finished the hpfp and “started it” and I heard I metal hit metal and my crank was off and my engine was out of timing
Thanks for the vid. I know you get what you pay for but how come there are HPFP's on amazon for $175? Are they really that crappy that you have to get the $600 from speed tech? I only plan to keep the car for a year before I upgrade and the only problem I am having is some hesitation from a stop to a slow accelerate (stop signs in neighborhoods and such). Do you think it is worth the $600 investment to do the HPFP?
Read the reviews on the amazon hpfp and see if you want to risk your money. I personally wouldn’t. $600 is pretty cheap for these hpfp’s
There is a guy that rebuilds them too, he has a Facebook page and I’ve heard good things about his service. I don’t remember the name off hand though
This is his page facebook.com/Highpressurepumpminicooperrebuilt/
Hallo warum hast du die hochdruckpumpe gewechsellt?was waren die Symtome?
Did you do the fuel rail when doing this?
No
Do you have to Re-Program the pump ? I replaced mine and I have a code
What symptomes did the car show?
That Pump is the same on n14 and n18?
One important thing with a job like this is make sure the battery is disconnect!
Why didn't the hardline get replaced?
Is it worth sending my pump for a rebuild or pay the extra $30 for a refurbished one ?
Depends on who you get the refurbished one from. If its from a reputable source then that’s not a bad idea.
Where abouts in the mountains do you live?
Does every mini cooper have a high pressure pump? Have a 2004 mini cooper supercharged fuel pump is moving fuel just fine but the fuel does not get to the fuel rail. It looked to me that the fuel line went right the rail on the passenger side of the engine bay nothing to the driver.
No the r53 only has the in tank fuel pump. Hpfp was 2007+
Took the pump back out as i didnt install it at first they had an o ring that wasnt seated properly. Reinstalled the pump the right way and it held pressure
Did you get a error code for manufacturer control. Or was it just stuttering on cold start
I wasn’t having any issues at all
@@ProjectMini oh so this was just preventive maintenance
i i just removed it for the video
@@ProjectMini thanks I think mine is on the way out
Chack your fuel pressure at the rail while the car is running and that will give you an idea
Would a n14 pump fit and work on a n18 engine?
I don’t think so
@@ProjectMini thank you for that, I had a look and mother screw is different on the back going to injector rail
I live in the 91331 zip
Mate appreciate the video but it isn't a good idea to take something apart for a video and put it back together your jinx yourself, mine whent on 50k exactly £550... Fuel pressure was spot on so was hard to diagnose just kept going onto lump mode.
Taking the fuel pump off won’t hurt it in any way, I’ll be fine 💪
Lolol 1000$ for a fuelpump IS OUTRAGEOUS
Please come help change the faulty high pressure fuel pump
On my 2007 mini Cooper S
