  • Review of the Ridgid Portable Vac WD4070 vacuum that is commonly used for auto detailing and general house or shop use. First we take a look at the features and functions of the Ridgid Portable Vac. We also put the Ridgid portable vac to the test in a real life detailing scenario cleaning the carpet in a filthy truck. The Ridgid portable vac performed well and is a great value for the money. This vacuum is perfect for auto detailing due to its small size and powerful suction. If you are a professional detailer or an auto enthusiast than this machine will perform well for you. I have been using it for over a year and it has worked great. Where I'm at, you can order online with the auto detailing package and it actually is CHEAPER than the vaccum itself at $75 vs $80.
      Not much but you can use the $5 to get the wet vaccum

    I use the size 1 and 1/0 Mustad hooks to freeline for snook czcams.com/users/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 and they have been fantastic. The points are super sharp, and the hook is small enough to blend with my baitfish, yet large enough to land fish 30" or more. I also use these hooks when I'm pier or surf fishing with my kids. They tend to catch tons of smaller snapper, whiting, and catfish, and we get far fewer gut hooks with these Mustad in-lines, which means more of them survive after release. I was actually using these hooks when I caught my friend too, but I think that had more to do with the bait I was using ;-)

      @@HawaiiDetailing That's what I do. I have to say that the vac was cheaper if you ordered it with 2 bags. Since they were free, I prefer to use them. There are also covers you can get to cover the filter that are much cheaper than filters. This one is small enough you could put a hair net over it.

    Thank you for t his video!!, What did you end up replacing the crevice tool with?

  • @floridaredneck
    @floridaredneck Před rokem +1

    Thanks for your video I'm a detailer and I got mine online for $80 with 2 bags at H.D. It' was $10 more without the bags (go figure) and the kit was $50. Problem with the accessory kit is you're really just buying a good hose and that long attachment (great one), and I use the light brush on auto carpets. Everything else is useless to me and you end up with so many attachments and adapters that don't fit the kit hose and vice versa and don't know why they are there.
    For instance, you can't use the long extenders that comes with it, with the crevice tool from the accessory kit. You'd have to change to the cheap hose to use them and then the crevice tool from the kt won't fit the black hose. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. That orange hose should come with the vac, but I use the black one that comes with it as a sound dampener by attaching it to the exhaust port and it minimizes the noise, just as an attachment you'd pay for. You can point the exhaust hose a 7' from the vac doing it this way or coil it up, and even out your garage door if using as a shop vac. So, that black hose is useful even if you buy the kit.
    Since I have the bags, I'll use them because I want to keep it clean everywhere because my clients could see it. I knew you can clean the filter, because I misplaced my bags on my first two uses. I beat it, vacuumed it and got it blue again, but I don't want to subject it to that dust if I don't have to. I wouldn't have to change bags for a year anyway because as you say, we pick up most trash before using it. Also, bags can be reused if you don't mind grabbing the trash from inside them.
    It arrived with a broken front castor, but I called HD, who called Rigid and they sent a replacement. It just pops into place. It has a lifetime warranty. I wish it had a home carpet attachment; I wouldn't use anything else. Be careful around your shop towels or the T-shirt you just took off. This thing will suck them up and keep going!

    Do the contents on the inside of the vacuum need to be cleaned out before it can be used as a wet vac? Or are we just replacing the filters (from dry filter to wet) and then using it as a wet vac?

    • @HawaiiDetailing
      @HawaiiDetailing  Před 3 lety +1

      Prakhash you have to remove the contents or it will get messy inside the machine as it gets wet. I would empty the machine of all debris and remove dry filter before using as a wet vac. After using it as a wet vac empty water, clean and let dry. Put back filter and it’s ready for dry use again.

    After watching this I'm looking at the Ridgid WD1680. It's a 16 Gallon with detachable blower. Any reason besides the obvious size difference you would recommend a new detailer to opt for the smaller version? The larger is currently on sale so will cost less than the 4 gallon and the 16 gallon NXT with the detachable blower for me is a huge selling point. Just looking for opinions / any reason I SHOULDN'T get one with a blower. Thanks!

    • @HawaiiDetailing
      @HawaiiDetailing  Před rokem +2

      Sorry I am unfamiliar with that machine. I always consider size as a big deal. High power machine with a small footprint is ideal. With a mobile rig or in the garage storage is tough to come by. If you can get all the power in half the size it’s a win. It would also take a lot of vacuuming to fill a 4 gallon vac and if you do fill it it’s easy to empty. If the blower on that machine works well it might be a good deal but usually they are lower power and not able to dry a car effectively. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching

      Yeah it depends on the size of the vacuum job. For contractors and large clean ups the big one is nice. In most residential or detailing situations the small one is plenty big enough. For detailing most of the large trash is best picked up by hand and the dirt sand and small stuff would take forever to fill the vac. I also prefer to empty it regularly. It’s a great machine. It’s small and still has the same motor as the bigger models. Any shop vac filter will clog if you vacuum up drywall dust or fine particles. It’s not a vac power thing it’s a filter thing. I don’t have affiliation with this brand but have used it happily for years. Sorry it did not work for you. Thanks for watching

    • @HawaiiDetailing

      I would use a med to stiff bristle hand brush and vacuum as you brush. As the brush draws up the dirt you vacuum it out. I do it all the time here in Hawaii with all the sand that gets in the carpet. Just be careful to not tear the carpet up as you do it. The brush can be hard on some carpets.

    Shop vac horsepower ratings are ridiculously inflated.
    For one, they're measuring inrush current rather than running current. Inrush current is at the startup of the motor and is not a good indicator of performance as the machine is operating. Even then, though, things are wildly inflated.
    Think about it this way: 1 horsepower = 745.7 watts. W=VA. I'm assuming you're on a US household 120V standard. If you had a 5hp motor, that would be roughly 3,700W. 3728/120 = 31, which means that 5hp at 120V would require 31A of power. Think about your breakers: Do you have any breaker on a 120V single-pole circuit that's 30A+? Absolutely not. Generally you'll only have 15! The simple reality is that the biggest motor you could get to run on a 15A circuit is 2hp, and even that would be absolutely pushing it (15 * 120 / 745.7).
    Don't expect 5hp. Don't expect 3hp. Those are 100% just bullshit marketing numbers and are literally impossible on normal household and shop circuits. The vacuum will likely have an actual draw of 1-1.5hp under full load.
