John Sterling's HR Call of Giancarlo Stanton's Long Single during the 2021 AL Wild Card Game between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox on 10/5/21 in Boston. - Sport
A Stantonian single!!!
That was more than a single it was a stantonian bullet that nearly went through the green monster wall
@@furrynicklmao. It hit the wall on the way down genius. Thus the way it careened back to the field.
Surprised he didn’t pull a hammy legging that out
you have to appreciate at the end his willingness to admit he was dead wrong on the call, he sounded super sincere
yea much appreciation after they both bullshitted about how it hit the top rail and Boone may look to challenge....it hit dead center of the wall. wasn't even close
it's not particularly praiseworthy to admit when you're wrong when you're wrong and a billion people can see you're wrong. Talk about setting the bar low.
@@Robertsp12345 Exactly, what a disgrace those 2 are.
No one cares
@@johnjameleThe bar is indeed low. Nobody even questioned why Stanton wasn’t on 2nd base in October, against your arch rival.
He’s rounding third, and collides with the catcher at home plate!
Wait, he’s on first. It’s a single.
What did I just see?!?!
Sounds like Jerry Coleman
“What did i do wrong what i see wrong” lmfaoo
"Right off the ledge" Bro it hit the MGM sign, stop digging deeper lol
For real lmao
Right. It didnt look that close to going out
she's spent her entire career covering for her idiot blathering partner.
You can hear him in the end say “boy that’s a long single”🤣
Stanton also seemed to think it was a no doubter
I was there, the whole park thought it was out lol
At the crack of the bat yeah, but you can clearly see it hit off the wall and apparently John wasn’t watching
Stanton's "wrong" was worse...He should absolutely have been at 2nd base.
He would've been hosed with that throw
@@lousassle9387 Haha oh ok...Stanton made contact at 0:25 and the cut off guy (shortstop) caught the ball at 0:34...The average runner takes 8-9 seconds from home to second base...Stanton makes it in easily if he doesn't just stand there admiring.
I'm a Yanks fan and i don't remember him being known as a speedster lol
@@lousassle9387 Bro if he ran hard out of the box he would've been there. What are you on?
He was just showing the hustle that the overwhelming majority of today's players exhibit regularly.
To be fair. That looked like a BOMB. Between Stanton's reaction and the camera zoom it looked like a blast
Lost in all this is the absolute cannon Alex Verdugo has for an arm.
Announcers usually learn not to say that "it's out of here" until it really is.
Watching that live I thought for sure it was gone
I don't mind him getting a call wrong here and there, he's not perfect....but Susan always tries to bail him out with the "I saw what you saw John. There's something wrong with the ball or the wall...not you John"...
"Right off the ledge" she adds near the end, despite the fact it hit the damn MGM logo lmao
that's what she's there for.
This ‘Susan’ sounds like Kyle Broflovski’s mom whenever I hear her. Don’t know how Yankee fans put up with her. 🤢
yeah pretty pathetic. It wasn't even CLOSE to going out and she knew it.
I'm a diehard red sox fan but I grew up in NY and loved listening to John Sterling call games on the radio. Dude is a legend, only part of the Yankees franchise I like
I’m a Sox fan from NY and I don’t know how anyone can stomach that guy. He’s always lost and he’s so goddamn annoying.
@@brendanfeehan4989 I agree, i can't stand when he shouts it is high, it is far, it is gone. the only descent call he ever made was on the Rick Camp homerun.
As a Red Sox fan, I liked him, Bob Shepherd, Derek Jeter, and Mo.
@@quesofrito3034 don’t forget Arod
Please. He's worse than Scooter ever was. Sterling and Waldman, is that really what Yankee fans want, fealty not reality? Follow the DJT script, that's now the Yanks' preference? Remy and Orsillo plainly had Sox bias, but their entertainment or information didn't subordinate the truth...
Love him or hate him....john sterling keeps you listening, my favorite combo was John and Charlie steiner...that was heaven....some of my favorite moments have come when during the subway series they swap and you get John and Howie rose
Charlie Steiner was awful. Sterling and Kay was the best
As a Dodger Fan, you can have Steiner back
I like Susan and John together.
@@CaliGrown11 Absolutely let them take Steiner back; worst announcer in baseball.
i cant believe theres such a large part of the yankees fanbase that hates John sterling.
I'm in college, and every summer I work as a lifeguard at this small apartment community pool, and almost every day I spend hours on stand just listening to John and Susan, and i love it. it's awesome. Makes me excited for it to be May again, listening to those ridiculous homerun calls everyday. Ive listened to him for as long as I can remember... personally will be heartbroken when he finally leaves
As long as this ball went, it went up, but ESPN went even further, a long way from Jon Miller and Joe Morgan!
I loved listening to Miller and Morgan. They made the 4 hour Sunday night baseball games between the Red Sox and Yankees awesome if you ask me.
Miller's voice is hypnotic.
John, that wasn't even CLOSE!!!!
eh.
HE DID IT AGAIN.
If Stanton had run from the beginning he might have been at second base.
Easily, possibly third.
If he'd have legged it out, he'd probably been THROWN OUT at 2nd base.
@@stevethomas2285 Even if he hustled. Verdugo had him dead to rights at second. The throw is entirely overlooked.
@@stevethomas2285 third? Have you ever watched a game at Fenway? If the left fielder plays the ball perfectly off the wall it’s almost impossible to get a double even if you hustle it out
Stanton: John Sterling said it was gone so I began my trot to home plate
The only thing better than hearing announcers' call of this play is the Yankee fan, bottom middle portion of the screen at 0:56 doing the Homerun signal. That's the person who's reaction I'd like to see the most.
God I love this man
To be fair that looked like it was leaving the stadium lol 😆
I am a Tampa Bay Rays fan but I love the way John and Susan announce games. They are such a class act, when the Rays and Yankees play each other I enjoy listening to the Yankees broadcast feed so I can hear John and Susan.
“aRE tHeY gOiNg tO lOok aT tHIs??”
This was hilarious to watch unfold live lol
That's literally a Home Run in every other ballpark lol
It’s not.
It’s literally a home run in zero ballparks, actually
Fenway is the most hitter-friendly ball park ... what are you talking about??
It actually isn’t! In fact that’s an out in most ballparks.
No it’s probably a fly out in any other ballpark especially Yankee stadium. It was high enough to get out at Fenway it just died. Did you see how low it hit off the wall compared to how high it peaked?
I’m sorry I’m a Yankees fan but even I crack up hearing this 🤣🤣
I still have no idea how this ball didn't go out. It was fucking crushed. Glad it didn't as a Sox fan but holy shit I was pissed off the bat,.
Reaching for an outside slider like that you lose some power and it's possible the wind was circling funny at that time.
Anyone see Gallo's righty practice swing at 0:54?
omg lol
To this day when my girl gets mad at me I break into my John Sterling voice and say “Now…now what did I do wrong?”
When John was at TBS in the 80’s calling Braves games with Skip, Pete and Ernie; I was a child and we listened and watched them everyday. That is probably the greatest broadcast team of all time. I miss those days.
John also called Hawks games in Dominique’s day. In my opinion he’s better at basketball, but great at both.
Go Bravos! Chop on! We are the Champions, of the world!
When ESPN Classic was a thing, they would play Sterling's broadcast of the Mets-Braves game on the 4th of July 1985, which John called "the nuttiest in the history of baseball."
@@UncleMikeNJabsolutely. That game ended in the morning hours at probably 3am and they still set off the fireworks.
Never stops being Funny
A staaaaaaaant up single
I mean even Vasgersian called it like it was out. Just a crazy stream of air or something that kept it in because I think everyone thought it was gone off the crack of the bat
The difference is that Vasgersian immediately course corrected when it hit off the wall. John Sterling just made the home run call and then was confused for the next couple minutes….
@@BachBeethovenBerg lol come on it wasn't 2 minutes...it was like 30 seconds. Still not great and he does need to retire though
@@JohnnyBoombatz1119 ok I exaggerated about the two minutes but you get my point….
Somewhere, Jose Canseco is shaking his head while Harry Carey is drinking a Budweiser.
the thing i hate most especially with stanton that he thinks every ball in the air is gone (to a degree respectfully so) but to end up with a single instead of a double because he likes to stare at the ball thinking it’s gone is absurd
Out of the ballpark n back again 😂😂😂
The fact he thought it actually went over the wall onto the street is the funniest part..
Right off the ledge
A Stantonian single!
fenway should be a museum.
not a ballpark anymore
Best call of arguably the best single Sox game in decades.
And I love John Sterling!
The Joe Biden of broadcasters.
That’s our guy 😁😁😁😁😁😁
“What did I do wrong?”
If it ain’t no doubt, you gotta get on your horse
Crazy old man
Maybe this is why announcers usually hang it up by the time they hit 80.
Missed a HR by about 12 feet, To go over the monster you need to clear 37.2 feet high, Great Call BY JOHN
Missed it by like 6 feet. What ledge are they talking about.?
Right off the ledge means the middle of the MGM Logo
Mr. MaGoo had the same call on the radio
Sterling is the equivalent of a rock band announcing the wrong city as the best city in the world.
the batter must have been listening to the announcer, since he was doing the home run trot.
Classic call! We’re gonna miss your voice.
Anyone know if they were calling the game from a studio rather than in person? If so, it was pretty hard to tell where the ball hit the wall.
I do believe they were at the stadium at this point.
@@Blueclipse28 no sterling calls it from a radio in a studio
@@Jesse-yu4hk This was true for most of the season. However at one point near the playoffs they were talking about how nice it was to be back in a stadium. Which is why this video is even funnier. This may have been the first game back.
@@Blueclipse28 oh
Is this sterling from the yankees or red sox radio station?
Only John Sterling hits with a higher velocity than Stanton - announcing a home run before it is a home run that is 😊
Just a hilarious moment. My wife and I used to enjoy listening to John and Suzyn on the radio and playing a game of what's going on? Who's batting? What inning is it? Who is winning? It's funny when you're listening for 10 minutes and are only just beginning to know the answers to these questions. 🙂
This really was all the ESPN camera guy's fault! 😂😂
To be fair, the ESPN announcer was fooled, too. I sure thought it was gone.
But I'm glad I wasn't stuck in the car at the time.
I wonder if MLB uses a different ball in the postseason. I know it's chillier in October, but I've noticed a lot of balls stay in the park that would've gone out in the regular season.
This is what you see forever when you no clip into the backrooms
Still have no idea how that stayed in the park off the bat lol
The monster!!!!!!
This hurt
Gallo batting righty in the on deck circle 💀
In the old days he would have been on second base.
Originally Mike, then Giancarlo, now Lazyass. Scoreless game yet he decided to stand and watch
This is hilarious!
As soon as that happened I knew the Yankees would lose.
Stanton put a damn dent in that ball
I kinda get missing this call. The ball kinda blended into the MGM logo, and knowing most broadcast rooms, they use live camera feed along with a window to view the ballpark. Also Stanton just crushed that ball and it would’ve been a home run anywhere else.
"I was dead wrong".... me to bud, it's okay 👍 👌
Is this sterling from the yankees or red sox radio station?
Yankees radio broadcaster.
Stanton did hit three homers in the series that happened about a week before and I guess it would’ve gone as far as John Sterling said if it was as warm as it was in that series
Literally every person thought this ball was gone. Wind must have been working against him
Probably would have been out in any other ball park. Green monster loves to rob those types of balls and ones that are still on the rise but smash the wall
A lineup with Giancarlo Stanton and then Joey Gallo really reminds you how absolutely lost the Yankees front office is
😂😂😂😂😂
Is Joey Gallo practicing hitting right-handed in the background???
Yup :)
Both of them thought it went out. What goobers. It wasn't even close.
As a Yankee fan I find this funny.
He does not know about the high wall?
He has broadcast hundreds of games there over the 30 years he has broadcast
Yankee games.
What "ledge" are they talking about?
🤎Giancarlo Stanton💟
I love Stanton
Ha ha the announcer a dope!
Well that was embarrassing. Not only did they get the call wrong but they were wrong by saying it "hit off the ledge" or "off the top". The ball clearly only hit about 2/3s of the way up the wall. It wasn't even close to a home run. He asked where he went wrong. It was not watching the play. These two failed on multiple levels.
if sanchez could make a tag or catch a popup this hit could have been in yankee stadium where it would have been gone
That ball was 2/3 of the way up the monster in any other ballpark it’s a fly out
i remember the series where stanton was launching absolute laser beams around Fenway, but the wall was holding them in and keeping him to singles...which means you now need at least 2 hits to score him....and hed be left on base haha
You need a play by play person for John, the man just can see anymore. It's sad to be honest 😢
He's been calling them like that 20 years.
If I was Boone he would be benched for preening when he should have been running. What jumped out to me was that no one ever criticized Stanton for being a dick.
I thought that was gone too
Sterling called the Bird 60 point game vs. the Hawks in 1985 for WTBS, calling it “the greatest shooting exhibition I’ve ever seen”. To say he lost his fastball may be an understatement.
Dude is like 80 years old and TBF in the summer that ball is long gone. But he should know better.
Suzyn trying to rescue him ❤
Right off the ledge? It was about halfway up the wall, not even close to a homerun. They're trying to do anything to cover their ass
lol offf the ledge??? it was like 10 feet down.
If trump tried being an MLB announcer
In their defense, they were at the stadium.
This is killing me 🤣🤣🤣😭
Hey, but at least he admitted his mistake!
Such an easy swing.
No shame in Sterlings game.
I'll never get tired of hearing this call.
Let's go Yankees !!
Not even close to gone. Shows how robotic HR calls became.
Let me guess, Gallo struck out next
