    This was the best car i ever had i got it used and had it 10 years. Im in michigan too. It out ran a Mustang and went threw a flood up the the Windows and trucks were stuck my escort kept on going and 2yrs b4 it finally died i got into an accident and it smashed the gril in so bad and i couldn't fix it and it still lasted me i drove it all bent up. This car was my pride and joy i washed it so much and took care of it and people were jealous of it and slashed all 4 of my tires twice, somebody tried stealing it but my alarm went off. It was my 2nd car i named her miss.sally. i miss that car so much so many memories. Dont diss an escort just take care of it and it will outlast many other cars.

      Im Sorry that yours got into a accident. Any old car will need some work and TLC I have made a few videos talking about what all was wrong and what was done to fix it. After some work and fixing a few things it became a pretty good car and over the last few months it has been solid with no problems and a good daily Driver.

    My first new car was a 2000 ZX2 I got when I was 21. I had power windows and locks and a CD changer in the trunk and ice cold AC. So going from a beater that barely ran to this it felt luxurious haha. I got 100k trouble free miles out of it until it developed a hesitation issue from stops. I never looked into it, it might have been simple but I ended up trading it in during 2005. Overall it was a good car as I remember. And yes it was cheap but I thought it was a good value for the money at that time.

      Same here!!! My first new car was a 2000 ZX2. I had all the same options except the CD changer (I just upgraded to aftermarket). I traded mine at a little over 100k because the a/c compressor went out and my roommate (a Honda tech) didn't want to mess with it. If I had it to do over again I would have replaced the compressor and still be driving it.

    I wonder if this is meant to be ironic considering this is a 20 year old car? I have none of these problems in my 1999. It IS a stickshift and so it is much more fun to drive and easier to work on. The only problem is with my also living in Michigan, the doglegs underneath the doors are beginning to rust. Man I hate the salt. Still get 30mpg in the winter and 37.5 in the summer. Best ever tank was 43mpg - but I am not the greatest hypermiler and 40mpg on a trip to Chicago and back in May. Never had any major problems with it besides changing the timing belt at 128,000 after the dealership told me (ie. lied) that they had inspected it at 120,000. Also had an ooze coming from the rear main seal about one drop per month. Used Scotty Kilmer's recommendation of putting in at205 and hopefully that is gone now. The drip pan under the car doesn't have much. The thing is I like this car enough where when people try to mess with you, and they often do thinking because you're in an old small car, that you can just downshift and bang it up to 90mph and they are like "whaaat?". Bye bye. I've had it up to about 123mph and it had much more room to go but now it is old I wouldn't press it. Have a chip for it but not using it atm, and the speed governor is easy to put a switch on to turn it off.

I used a rocker toggle switch that I got at radio shack back in the day and mounted it inside the cupholder, painted a jar cap black and used that as a cover so I could still use the cupholder. You have to use the switch or it will throw a code for the check engine light. Glad I got another single-throw-double-pole switch for the IAT/ECT modification before Radio shack went under. Looks just like the the switch I used for the governor before I got the chip. I did that once by running the wires all the way to the intake and engine temperature sensors and it adds a lot of rubber burning grunt. Probably unleashes the power the engine was meant to have in the UK before it was detuned for the US market.

    If you still have your Dear Bea Orne (there may be a young lady in France has that name born in 2001) pocket rocket, I will sell you a 2000 Mercury Sable (could be the love child of Freddy Mercury and a Swiss bartender) lower than average cost in Carlisle PA area (all cars are too expensive in Carlisle area, not just show (King James Bible English: shew) cars. The heater does not work, and it may need a new timing chain. Also, the valve lifters are noisy. The Sable has rust spots. You learn to love your Escort. I had a 1980s Ford Escort and my father had a Mercury Tracer. Only reason I got rid of my Escort I caught Connie Corde Fever (I listen to Focus on the Family too often.) My father got rid of his Tracer because there was too much rust, and the transmission needed repair.

      After some good old TLC it became a good daily driver My uncle's had like seven of them and five of those seven had shaking but he did say that my shaking was the worst he has ever seen. But when they're running good they're great little cars If ever got one again I'll go with the stick shift and set an automatic but I miss the days of having affordable small coupes.

    U think that is bad, uve clearly never owned a normal escort, the wheel shakes so much ud think there was an earthquake happening, hell the dash cracks its shaking so hard. Its also much louder than the zetecs, they called the motor the "2.0l sohc split port injection motor" an awful motor at that, a pitiful 110hp, that feels alot less than that, and in freezing temps ud be lucky to the car running, misfires some when cold. I much prefer my zx2 over the normal escort. And there are alot of electrical probs, still haven't gotten the fan to work, ac stalls the car, as does the alt

    • @MotorMikeMedia
      @MotorMikeMedia  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah that's true lol. I did have a piece of my dash above the steering wheel crack and pop off because it was shaking pretty bad. A few friends that are mechanics have taken a look at it told me that mine shakes a little bit more worse than others. Just in general the escorts aren't the best cars but I do like the way they look they're different and kind of funky which I personally like lol I just need to find something cheap to replace it. Thanks for watching!

      @@MotorMikeMedia i agree, if ure looking for a cheap fun car to replace it, I'd go with an svt/sport contour which has a smooth sounding v6, that makes 200/170hp respectively. Has passive rear wheel steering too, if u thought the escort handled great, its nothing compared to a contour. Best handling car I've driven. Not as reliable as the zetecs, still a pretty solid car. If u get one tho, a manual would be better. The autos are pretty bad

      @@claudespeed277 you know what's funny about two or three weeks ago I was looking at cars and bids.com. They actually had an SVT contour It was silver stick shift really good shape. I was thinking about putting a bid on it I was going to wait till the last day and see what the price was but I forgot about it I looked a day after the auction ended. They're really cool cars with the body kit you really don't see a whole lot of them.
