    For Track use please use Engine Oils with HIGH HTHS viscosity. HTHS stands for High Temp High Shear, basically the viscosity in hot tight places, a.k.a the bearings!!
    High HTHS/Bearing protection will save the bearings when the oil is too thin at 270degs. Go for at least 3.5 HTHS. ....and an oil cooler to fix the root cause ofcourse :p

      If he hit 270 degree oil temp on the first lap then there might be more significant oil flow issues that an oil cooler isn't going to resolve. I wonder where his oil temp sensor is located and what kind of oil pressure he was seeing.

Isnt there a cheap upgrade with some additional plates in die oilpan, so the oil cant float around too far? thats what i have done to numerous of my cars (Track-BMW, Autobahn-Audi) and never had an issue with oil at all. just a suggestion.

  • @Mesder13
    @Mesder13 Před 4 lety

    I've spun a rod bearing on track... felt just like that. "Oh, that's not a good sound... it still drives ok, though a little down on power... Yeah, that sound is bad, I need to pull off"
    I thought I could get away with just bearings, but it took out my crank and connecting rod with it. The crank was almost savable, but it had a tiny amount of runout (0.022") and nobody made large enough bearings to machine it out properly. The connecting rod was so overheated though it turned the metal around the bearing black, so if the bearing is spun it almost certainly needs one new piston. Luckily, the parts cost is pretty low, but the labor... I know it's not what anyone wants to hear, but you'll get it fixed and get back out on track!
    I still haven't discovered the cause though. Long term wear caused high clearance/low pressure? Oil starvation around corners? High oil temp -> low viscosity -> low oil pressure/protection?
    It was a very hot day when I killed mine, and I had been driving hard for a while, so high oil temp may have been my issue. I didn't have an oil pressure or temp gauge though so I don't know for sure.

    You need more than a set of rod bearings, my dude. That's a VERY audible knock. At THE MINIMUM, you're looking at pulling the crank to have it cut, a set of rods, hot tank the block and cylinder head, new oil pump, and oil cooler.

    Wow the US version of the Escort looks like a cool car. We haven’t had ford escorts since 2001ish here in the UK
    Not a cosworth though but it’s still a cool car
