Does tuning your 2nd Gen Toyota Sequoia make a difference?

  • Naturally aspirated #Toyota’s are notorious for being underpowered and aneamic after you build them out with bigger tires and more #Overland gear. Recently, a lot of people have been turning to getting their rigged tuned to make up for some short comings like acceleration and mpgs and we wanted to see if getting a tune would make any difference at all in our #ToyotaSequoia on 37 inch tires with stock gearing.
    We test out 0-60 times, mpgs, and overall drivability to see if there are any noticeable gains in any of those areas after getting our rig tuned.

    just a heads up.... if your or anyones gen 2 is getting poor gas mileage... change the air filter and you'll notice better gas mileage... i live paycheck to paycheck and i support 5 of us in my family... so im broke often lol last year and this year i noticed poor gas mileage... and simply changing the air filter immensely and immediately, improved gas mileage.. i stand by the wix brand filter and it helps better than the cheap ones... just an fyi 😉 God bless everyone here 😊 😃 also one of my cat converters is starting to get clogged so i noticed a loss of speed and horsepower, especially when i go uphill... so if anyone else has this problem... then know its the converter that is clogged... ... happy memorial day weekend to everybody reading this... 😉

      I would suggest two treatments of Cataclean for the rig. Follow instructions and it will make a difference.
      I did this to our 14' 4Rnr and the short term fuel trims improved.

    My experience with the tune by MBP it helped reduce gear hunting GX470. Noticeably on incline. Less double down shifts…

      That’s rad. I’m so glad it worked for you. It didn’t really do much for us.

      Yes but I am ending up regearing especially after bigger tires. Transmission temp getting too high on highway inclines. Recently popped rear ring and pinion. Lol

    Im not lifted to 2.5 but im around 2 on stock tires. But i got 17mpg during a 750 mile roadtrip last weekend and then 14mpg this weekend doing 75 miles offroad driving up mountains and the rest on the highway with a massive headwind. So it seems the best tune you can do is tire size 😂

    • @CoolGuyClub
      @CoolGuyClub  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hey that’s very good mileage. Tire size indeed is the answer.

    Ever since I put 35s on my 2008 sequoia, my speedometer is off. I can find anyone that can adjust my vehicle to display an accurate MPH. What did you do to fix this?

    • @CoolGuyClub
      @CoolGuyClub  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Easy fix for me. Scangauge ii and iii allows you to offset your Speedo on the display and it will display the correct speed.

  • @ZachD
    @ZachD Před 2 měsíci +2

    Isn’t the MPG off because the ECU thinks it’s on stock tires? Wouldn’t you have to factor in the circumference gain with the larger wheel/tire setup? Regardless, sweet rig.

    • @CoolGuyClub
      @CoolGuyClub  Před 2 měsíci +3

      The tune accommodates for tire size.

      @@CoolGuyClub was it a big difference? i guess what im asking is if your odometer said 70mph when you were actually doing 65 or 60? if so how much do you estimate was the difference? seems like it could be a problem if one is driving through a school zone lol or if a cop said you were speeding on the highway or something.... sorry for the dumb question.... i really would like to know the answer though. thanks in advance buddy 🙏 😀

    Hey, I've been enjoying your more frequent posts lately! Could you comment in one of your future videos or maybe here in the comment about a steering issue I've noticed in all my Sequoias? There's a dead feeling at the center of the steering wheel when shimmying it left and right; the car doesn't start steering for the first few degrees, making it feel loose and delayed. I experienced this with my 2011 and other similar-year Sequoias I test drove. Have you encountered this, and do you have any possible fixes or opinions on it? Thanks!

    • @CoolGuyClub
      @CoolGuyClub  Před 24 dny +1

      Hmm assuming all your fluid levels are good I’d say it was the rack. The tundra racks in these cars do go bad from time to time and create a dead spot. I switched the rack in ours first year of ownership just to make sure it was good.

    Hi,
    Have you considered a larger fuel tank for your sequoia?

    • @CoolGuyClub

      I have but we get about 280 miles per tank and that isn’t bad enough for me to justify that cost

    Hi,
    I have a 08 sequoia on stock tires, new engine air filter and I’m lucky to get 12 mpg. What would te gearing look like?
    Thank you for your content.

    • @CoolGuyClub
      @CoolGuyClub  Před 2 měsíci

      If you’re on stock tire sizing then a regear will not help sadly.

  • @yosammy1746
    @yosammy1746 Před 2 měsíci

    A tune will only boost your tq and hp by a few. What really improves is the throttle response and shifting points. Not worth it if you're not doing any FBO or forced induction. Your best bang for the buck is to regear imo.

    What about trying a pedal commander?

    • @CoolGuyClub
      @CoolGuyClub  Před 2 měsíci

      Hard no on that. All a pedal commander does is slow or increase the open rate of your throttle body. There is no real benefit to running one of those.
