The best $150 mod for 2nd Gen Toyota Sequoia?

- We install a cheap cold air intake onto our 2nd generation Toyota Sequoia and OH MY GOODNESS this may be the best mod under $200 we have ever done. Not only did the intake surprise us with how much better the rig sounded. It woke up the throttle response considerably. The truck just feels way more nimble now under acceleration and the boy oh boy does the sound REALLY come through.
I highly recommend this mod for anyone looking to make their giant rig just a little more fun to drive.
No it didn’t add a ton of horsepower nor did it completely change our mpgs… what it DID do, is make the big truck just that much more fun to drive and for me, $150 is totally worth it. 10/10 would recommend.

One of my favorite parts of a pod filter is that it usually makes it easier to work in the engine bay and adds more room for other mods.
That’s a great idea.
Thanks for making these videos, I honestly just find them entertaining as hell, and i educate my self in a thing or two. Keep at it, you got something cool here. Cheers.
Thank you very much!
Is there a bolt on electric radiator fan upgrade for this platform?
I put a K&N CAI and a catback magnaflow muffler on my 2003 Toyota Sequoia limited 2WD. Sounds good so far.
Hell yes. These engines love to breathe
What kind of mpg gains on those mods?
Honestly, no mpg gain at all😢.
Thanks!
Holy cow thank you!!
You're welcome. Do you recommend any performance tuners for the 2016 Sequioa @CoolGuyClub
They all sort of do the same thing and for that reason I stay away from them. I’ve found better luck just hitting the “tow/haul” button bc it also keeps you in a lower gear and increases throttle response. All the plug and play tuners (pedal commander) just speed up rate of throttle opening.
@@CoolGuyClub Thank you so much for your advice. I like your awing and I got the Baja lights. After install I'll send you pics.
Nice video. Who's playing that groove in the background?
That's an artist called AVES. You can find him on artlist or any other youtube music site.
Oof now I want one too.
It makes the truck so much more fun to drive. No joke
How's the sound just cruising on the freeway? I wouldn't mind getting an extra mpg but i really don't want it to be very loud when cruising since it's my family vehicle.
No noise when cruising. Just under load
Nice chaser 👀
lol thank you!! Good eye
Both your videos are great- thanks for taking the time to explain everything. Love the mileage you got 14.9 on a 5000 LBS truck? That's amazing.
We use our 2016 Sequoia Platinum edition primarily to tow our camper (5550- Dry) on Cat Scale we are under 400 lbs either with RV + Sequoia or just Sequoia alone. I changed the air filter to TRD Pro, not for the sound but to add more torque. We averaged 13.8 from PA (Harrisburg) to Montana. On return from San Diego, our mileage dropped to thirteen due to headwinds. We had our air on roundtrip. I maintained it at 65 MPH. I am looking for a performance tuner to remove the pedal lag. Something to plug into the OBD and monitor or able to adjust on the phone. Any thoughts on this - thanks.
Thank you
I did get that mpg for sure but now with the rtt we average between 11-13 on the highway depending on wind and speed of course
@@CoolGuyClub Thank you so much
I did this exact mod on my 08 and shortly after had a 50 series Flowmaster dual in single out welded in and the resonator removed. It was a bad combo. The droning was terrible. I pulled all the seats and carpet up and added 80mm Kilmat on the entire floor all the way up to the firewall in the front to try and reduce it... Helped but was still not great. Removed the air intake and reinstalled the OEM intake with K&N drop-in and the droning reduced, but of course was still there due to the 50 series, but it was tolerable now. Someone suggested if I had left the resonator in that would have helped?? Maybe?? With the intake by itself the sound at full throttle was good, just like this video, but with the combo it was bad. Headache inducing at highway speeds. IMHO you can do either of these Mods by themselves but the combo in my case was not worth it. Made long trips terrible.
Ah man that’s horrible to hear. Sorry about the droning. For us we love the intake noise especially on the highway. We don’t have exhaust yet but I’m sure it would be horrible with double droning.
The resonator's whole job is to reduce the droning sound, so yes, that would have helped to put that back.
These things flood your engine with dirt. Watch project farms testing.
i own a 2008 with 5.7 and installed a Pedal Commander, oh yeah.
These big boats are really fun
Depending on the setting you put it on, the throttle response is instantaneous and so it the power.
Any mpg gains?
Could you post the link for the whole intake or what parts needed?
heck yes. Link now added to description. a.co/d/1jgQUS8
Is there an update video maybe about mpg's how did it affect 🤔
Sadly no video but I gained 1mpg everywhere.........then I ruined it with 37's but before that 1mpg gain is what you can expect.
I mean, if you’re looking at Seqouias and worried about mpg’s, you’re looking at the wrong vehicle type in general 🤣
What infotainment system is that?
Trail Grid Pro Sony 8100 kit
Never mind, found it!! 💯💯
Awesome!!
A drop in k&n filter would give you the same results and a cleaner filter for a longer period, since it would be in the factory air box....
No it wouldn’t. As I stated 4 times in this video. I installed this the for sound. The sound makes the car way more fun to drive. Drop in filters don’t do the same.
Does it drive faster or only sounds loud? Thank you for sharing your experience.
Definitely feels a lot faster. I tried to say it in the video but it 100% feels faster and sounds so much better.
I got the s&b CAI and corsa exhaust. Put the ride in tow haul mode and feel a huge difference in sound and power
I'm sold
So so fun
I put a K&N cold air intake on my 5.7 sequoia.
After around 10k miles it made it throw codes, run lean.
I paid Toyota $500 to two master techs to diagnose.
They checked the entire engine, fuel system, sensors….
Tech out his oem air intake on my sequoia and it fixed it immediately.
Sold the air intake and put a oem back on. No issues in the last 18 months.
Also…it sounded amazing but decreased my gas mileage.
Awww bummer. The maf can really be finnicky sorry about that.
@@CoolGuyClub yup. I I swapped the mass air flow sensor too
I know you dont care about mpg, but.... how did it do?
I have actually seen an improvement by 1 mpg across the board. City and highway
Bro? Did it increase fuel consumption? Or no? Lmk please 🙏🏻😉😎
DID NOT ..Bro.
how's it holding up?
Zero issues so far… 35,000 miles
Notice any mpg changes yet?
None at the moment but I barely drive it except for large road trips
@@CoolGuyClub my 08 SR5 gets 15-ish mpg on roadtrips. I was debating getting it to see if it would help with MPG a little bit. Thanks for the input!
Most CAI are worse then factory with the open air element. Only real way to improve the factory CAI is to get an enclosed airbox or a better intake pipe with a filter that uses the factory style airbox.
Not if you're mostly buying it for sound and boy oh boy do I love the sound.
😂
You might be ok with this on the street but no way would I trust that filtration in a dusty environment.
Good point Jeff, when I go in really bad environments I use an intake sock.
