Quake 2 but it's Quake 1

- This video is a showcase of a mod I stumbled across by basementApe on moddb, and I thought it was implemented really well!
Here's a download link to the mod:
www.moddb.com/mods/q2m-quake-...
place the q2m folder within \Quake
erelease and type 'game q2m' without the ' into the console after booting up Quake!
When starting a new game, you have 4 different marines to choose from, 1 is base game, 2-4 is Quake 2 weapons. Pressing the same key multiple times cycles their starting loadouts slightly
For 'Display' settings I recommend:
Texture Smoothing: On (I usually prefer this off)
Resolution: High
Antialiasing: Off
Ambient Occlusion: Off
Depth of Field: Off
Motion Blur: Off
Model Interpolation: On
Enhanced Models: On
Color Lightmaps: On
Fog: On
Dynamic Lighting: Off
Also under gameplay, turn on minimal hud and view bobbing off!
0:00 Slipgate Complex
2:34 Castle of the Damned
5:06 Necropolis
10:42 Grisly Grotto
14:42 Ziggurat Vertigo
19:07 Gloom Keep
23:07 Door to Chthon
26:33 House of Chthon - Hry
Holy crap, I didn't expect this video to hit 20k views! Hopefully you guys/gals gave this mod a try; BasementApe did a really good job making it feel authentic! Later on, he helped me make the Token Mod which I think adds a lot of replayability to the game, and was an idea floating in my head for a while. This also inspired me to add a similar mechanic to my main Terraria mod which is great for new playthroughs!
Here's a link to the Token Mod trailer: czcams.com/video/0h_5CNxKuuw/video.html
Am i the only one having these fantasies as a child what combination of using other game series weapons with another game opponents would sound like, and here it is lol.
you should watch my serious sam video then!
I've done a bunch of stull like that, but for the gzdoom engine though.
Samsara for Doom (particularly zdoom, zandronum, or any gzdoom fork) does that and even has a addon to change enemies that spawn to match a mix of the source materials of the players’ chosen characters if you want to fight more than zombie men and demons.
Perfect job, all the v_weap are recoded to apply the idle animations, that's care for the details.
Yeah 'basementApe', the modder, told me he wanted everything to feel as authentic as possible
The incompatibility between the elements of science fiction guns versus the Shub Niggurath theme just makes up for creativity. Though Quake 4 had a very minor trivial influence from Quake 1, the Nailgun.
Lucky for us, Quake 4 NAILED the nailgun (heh) and how it's supposed to be and feel.
@@DinnerForkTongue yeps.
You made my wish come true lmao. what a legend, you're the one.
I didn't make it, a user named 'basementApe' did
Play the new q2 expansion :)
this reminds me of the Generations mod for Quake 2. the team recreated maps, items, and weapons from wolfenstein, doom, and quake into quake 2 and it was such a dream to play… until id software shut them down :(
They came back as "Some Old Games" on Quake 3 since all the games were there already.
This is the most heretical mod I've ever witnessed. Love it.
I wonder if there is a Quake1 but it’s Quake2 mod out there.
4:45 Man, THAT is satisfying. 🤩 Watching them Fiends go against a _real_ super shotgun puts them in their place as dumb leaping pinkies.
The entire weapon selection kicks butt, but the super shotty gets the limelight. It shines against non-Strogg monstrosities, horrible horizontal spread be damned.
I'm rather surprised at how powerful the machineguns are. I didn't usually break out the non-gatling machinegun for battling Tanks in Q2, but here it is effectively used against Shamblers. Methinks a little balancing might be in order.
the opposite of Quake 2 on N64, which uses Quake 64 tech to run quake 2. It worked pretty well, considering Q64 had color lighting already. But they didn't use quake 2's engine, which meant Q1 animations, lacking Q2's interpolation.. But it was pretty impressive, running at a similar framerate and resolution as the first 3Dfx cards were with the actual Quake 2. It's more of a Quake 1.8 lol
Yeah sometimes people can do alot with what was given to them and with tight deadlines, makes learning about older game development fascinating
Q2 guns are just too damn powerful for Q1
Wich pretty good
This demonstrates that Quake 1's shooting gameplay and weapon roster was better and more satisfying than Quake 2.
This is amazing and incredibly cursed at the same time. I love it.
Cursed or not, I love how _hard_ the weapons hit. This has potential to be the base for some awesome map packs.
Well, this is basically canon now. :P
Bitterman somehow landed on the wrong end of Stroggos.
Somewhat disappointing that sci-fi cyborgs are apparently much stronger than Lovecraftian monstrosities considering how quick these enemies go down lmao
Growing up with these games my brain is having a meltdown from the confusion lol
Really odd hearing the Quake 2 shotgun sound properly synced up to the animation.
This is such a cool idea!
THIS MOD IS SICK
Hell yeah! I'm glad I found it and the guy who made it did a great job
lol beautiful ending :)
We call it heresy in my land
this mod alone makes Quake 1 more playable to me, a Quake 2 fan. I will try it out eventually.
That feeling where the computer you played days of Q2 online was bad enough that it's hard to tell what the differences are
This guy Quakes
The best of both worlds, essentially.
I want to see every monster and gun from Quake1 and 2 and add-ons dumped into one mega-wad of madness.
The damages aren't quite right, but it's interesting. Fun watch.
Nice find.
I was never a big Quake 2 fan, but this is pretty cool.
You weren't?! Well, F U then! 😌
great end
Now we need Quake 1 but it’s Quake 2
Dear lord, you ignoring some secrets made my skin crawl.
idk all the secrets and I think I was stoned too
This looks fantastic. Super Shotgun seems OP, but I understand the rationale. If the Q1 Shotgun is the Q2 blaster equivalent, q2 shotgun should be q2 double shotgun equivalent.
Its notable that it handles like in Q2- kills light enemies in a single shot, tougher enemies like ogres/gunners require 2 at close range
No recoil for a machinegun ❤❤❤
What's Bitterman doing here?
My brain hurts.
Nice! I'm guessing the ent compile had to be done to give single barrel shotty in some maps, as well as a few other weapons? Pretty nice!
What's that version of e1m1? It has some different brush work in the skylight area (1:30).
Its just Quake 1 with a weapon mod that uses copper as a base, so it might be copper doing that
can't be real quake1 if I am seeing more colors than just brown
Quake 1.5 hehe
What about Doom 2 but it's Doom 1 ???
Quake 1 has the better enemies
Anyone else have Quake dreams? Lol
Movements are so odd and aim is strangely inaccurate. Are you using gamepad instead of mouse and keyboard?
no I was high
This is what I exactly need for the remaster now.
So this is quake 2 engine that uses esets models and levels form Quake 1? But retain the weapona from Quake 2
It's the quake 1 engine that uses weapon assets from quake 2
It's Quake 1 with a weapon pack
Oh so it is the other way around , thanks for the replay's. :)
I remenbered rhar I so many years ago mod of Quake 2 with weapons from Quake 1
Interesting project. Would be cool if the weapon animations could have all their frames rendered.
This looks super interesting! Nicely done! The only thing that could perhaps make it better is if killing Grunts made them drop shotguns for the player's use - And the shotgun pickups granted the super shotgun instead - but I digress
Is this Q1 or Q2 engine?
Quake 1 with a weapons mod
Excellent !! How did you do that ?
It's a weapons mod made by a guy named BasementApe
I love it. Would it run on the RTX version of Q2?
No it's a quake 1 mod
No but you could use the quake 1 RT mod tho
концовка убила
Рад, что люди заметили xD
I need a mod for Q2 with instant weapon switch as in Q1, any hints?
The combination of Quake 2's Super Shotgun and Quake's gibbing sound is something my pants weren't ready for
It just looks ike GLQuake.
this was the kex remaster with the Q2M mod enabled
Hey... Uhm... Could you... Finish this?
I don't have a PC, or a remastered copy of quake that runs on a phone emulator.
I just... need more... of this... It's very satisfying to watch.
did U watch the no HUD playthrough?
@@coffee0093 I saw it but it didn't have the Quake 2 weapons.
@@mileator I just uploaded a full run deathless on hard
@@coffee0093 I'm very sorry, i'm being confusing. I was wondering if you could do a full playthrough of Quake 1 with the quake 2 weapons installed as you have in this video here.
The balancing of the Quake 2 weapons just hit different.
@@mileator well the vid I just uploaded is a full playthrough of quake 2. I might revisit for Q2m (the quake 1 version) but I been really enjoying the second game
Cursed
So what else is from Quake 2 apart from weapons?
Круто ! Люблю когда в шутерах есть руки.
looks more like a quake 1 mod though
It is
quake 2 minus 0.8
The weapons fire too slow for quake 1. There were actually several really good conversion mods for doom though. One in particular required a special engine to even run.
They may fire slow but they hit insanely hard, so it evens out.
Ahh, this feels weird! :D
P.S. I hate the default Quake 2 blaster. It's slow, it sounds weak, its damage is frustratingly low, it's generally so unsatisfying to use. Come to think of it, I don't really like any of the weapons in Quake 2. And I don't really like Quake 2 either... :D
The Super Shotgun is really nice imo
Quake 1 seems fun, now that the weapons are not useless pieces of shit.
The volume of this video is a bit low 😂
yeah I didn't realise my game was at like 50% when I was recording
The weapons are done wrong; the blaster has to replace the axe, and the double-barrel shotgun should never have been replaced by a single-barrel pump action one.
Hyperbased.
too quiet
Maaaaan I prefer enemies and weapons from Q2
Quake 2's guns were so ass.
Backporting more powerful weapons from Q2 to Q1 seems like unfair cheating to me.
quake 2's gunplay is so bad compared to quake 1 and quake 3
I agree, the Q2 weapons are pretty bad.
I like them better than Quake's weaksauce arsenal.
Well, the super shotgun kicks ass. And I love the rail gun. But the rest are at their worst iterations compared to every other game
@@jayceneal5273 Pretty sure Q2's shotgun is badass compared to, well, Doom 3 or Quake 4 shotgun.
Quake 4 suffers from having a weak rocket launcher, and Quake 1 suffers from having a weak super shotgun. It was too weak to be called super. It was called the Double-Barrelled Shotgun.
Quake 2 suffers from mainly having a weak default weapon, while Q1 shotgun sees more use in deathmatches, either as a long range hitscan or a Quad Damage monster.
@@SyRose901 q4's shotgun is decent. Doom 3 shotgun is good but a little too inaccurate making it an rng gun. Q2's shotgun fucking sucks which is why the instant you get the ssg you'll pretty much never use it
The thing I take offense to is the idea that the q1 ssg is weak. Dude, the thing fires like triple the speed as the q2 ssg and does only slightly less damage. It's the gun you'll use about 50% of the campaign because it makes short work of everything except shamblers and vores. I would say the default shotgun is not really good but it's significantly better than the q2 blaster at least
So the point is? Quake, just like Doom is "moddable" to degrees one can't imagine. For Doom there's Ashes, for Quake I cannot even tell you, and you are well aware. Is there some novelty here or is this a pet project?
I think it was something the creator made for fun
