    Besides the paddle mod another way to really improve the preformance of that blower is to get a taller chute I did both mods to my JD 49 blower that I use on my 78 316 and it helps tremendously.

    Great video and nice outfit. I'd love to have that snowthrower for the 400 but pretty unlikely I'll find one worth messing with. The blade will be fine on the 400 and the 140 with thrower does almost as good. Ya know you have enough weight hanging off the back when ya have to lift the blower a bit sometimes to steer, Lol. I prefer it that way because you don't get stuck, push through heavy snow without spinning and steers easy if you don't have P.S. With a 140 H3 and 400 you're doing great. Thanks.

  • @TF856

    My dad bought one of these in the late 70s. We uste that for mowing grass and blowing snow for about three or four years and then the engine crapped out. The tractor seems sturdy and somewhat well-built. But the Kohler engine was garbage.
    Both John Deere and Kohler wanted way way too much money to work on it. Apparently they don't like working on garbage either.
    Eventually I took the engine out and repaired it myself with factory parts but I did not even last another year. My dad ended up selling it to somebody else to worry about.

    Just out of curiosity Norman, when you're struggling to make a turn with the blower on the ground (as we all do) why don't you use the individual brakes on the Deere to help steer? Or do you use them and I just can't tell from the video? None of my tractors have cutting brakes and I've always been jealous of Deere for that reason! Great video, as always! Thanks!

  • @FullMetalFab
    @FullMetalFab Před 5 lety

    Hey Norman what do you prefer, single stage or duel stage snowblowers ?? I like the single stage for the simplicity of the machine and they take up less space/don't hang out too far on the front of the machine. I have a QA42A and parts for my cub cadet machines and plan to make a drift eater attachment for the blower over the summer.

    • @rydplrs71
      @rydplrs71 Před 5 lety +1

      FullMetalFab I personally pick a two stage only because I have to clear a lot of banking, and occasional blower topping storms. Outside that they are of comparable performance.

    • @FullMetalFab
      @FullMetalFab Před 5 lety

      greene the capacity of a two stage is definitely an up side to them. The single stage on my cub is more then enough for what we get here in eastern Ontario. Most we get at one time is 6-8"of the stuff. The drift eater is only for the snow drifts at the end of are drive way. They can be up to 2 feet tall if the wind gets up through the night.

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  Před 5 lety +1
