The difference is that the critics are in Disney’s pocket so they actually get good reviews even though the fans hate them, it’s kind of the opposite of the prequels.
The prequels had heart and soul, something Disney never captured with their Star Wars films.
100% Not to mention imagination as well.
This is my main gripe with the sequels. Regardless of how you feel about the prequels, you can tell that multiple people truly cared about them and poured passion into the project. The sequels just felt like soulless cash grabs.
Yeah the sequels where just designed to make as much money and attract as many kids to it as possible. Only good film disney has made, that actually felt like star wars was rogue one.
@@miller.b.1399 Solo a Star Wars Story was pretty good too. It felt fun, energetic and laid back, just as a Han Solo standalone movie should be. Nothing too crazy and certainly as as good as Rogue, but it was also a pretty well done SW movie in it's own right, I'd say.
Rogue One and Solo A Star Wars Story were both great. Disney captured the heart, soul and imagination from those two films at the very least.

I mean suppressing your emotions or pretending that everything is perfect all the time are definitely unhealthy and bad, but finding something to draw a source of strength from and not be too weak and mopey and wallowing is also a good thing especially as a man. Nothin against this specific clip of george though
Dealing with criticism ever since 1977 about the Star Wars trilogy being 2 and half hours toys commercials on farm animals steroids, and people who never got over it about the huge success and fandom that his movies got of course makes you tough.
Carrie Fisher also admitted that it really hurt when they started pushing Leia as a more feminine icon/role model for young girls. For the simple fact that these little kids were coming to her book signings, and conventions just to say that they didn't recognize her because she was old and she didn't look like the character anymore.
So, having a sense of humor, this is the way she dealt with it: She would ask the child how old they are, and they would tell her. Then she would ask them a follow up question: "How old do you WISH you were?" and they would give her an answer.
She would then respond with "Me too, kid. Me too."
If JJ Abrams did this you'd say he's sensitive and can't take criticism
Thank you for this

And then there's the sequels characters
I always admired his creativity for characters and story. It's just how it plays out in a script. Take Empire for an example. Lucas created the core foundation of characters and story. But the script was written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan. Creating a universe and its characters has never been a problem for Lucas. It's always been transferring his ideas to a screenplay. The same can be said for Indiana Jones, the character and story are his. But not the screenplay. Lucas works best when he creates everything, and sets out the main plot and allows someone to write it. Will he have a say in the script, probably. But not enough to warrant a writing credit. That falls down to the writers union. We should just be thankful for him. As his creativity was such an important part of many of our childhoods. And paved the way for many filmmakers today,

They're great but they're also confusing messy loud piles of shit
I also grow up with the prequels but I started to dislike them after I understood why somehow the Original had more. Prequels are rich in creating the franchise bigger but in the same way made the story and some parts of the universe worse. As much as I love the army of the CIS, it won't make the thing it did to the idea of the force better. As much as I love every spin off game that was created only because of the prequels like Battlefront 2, Republic Commando it won't make the beginning of constantly rewriting and red conning better. And the Movies aged badly and I can't forgive what Lukas did because of that to the original by CGI Alot of beautiful puppets (sure the new lights aber effects where better but the CGI Jabba looks awful, sure the new color plate looks nice but including and even remake some clips was unnecessary like the talk between the Emporer and Vader.

Nah, he did know Disney was gonna give us the crap that was The Sequels. You can find some interviews when he was making The Prequels where he said Hollywood kept telling him to make The Prequels like the Original Trilogy. It's why he had to make Ep. 2&3 with his own money.
In this huge book the star wars archive there's an interview with george lucas there and he said that he had the sequels plotted out and the first one written and ultimately right before making it is when he sold to disney because his daughter had been born and there were more things he wanted to do like make a museum and he realised if he was the one to make the sequels that he wasn't going to get those things because it'd take another 10 years to make and finish the final trilogy. in the end the choice wasn't because of the fans hating his work and the treatment of it well maybe a little but his reasoning was as simple as he just wanted to be there to raise his daughter and not miss out on that. which feels very true to the core story of star wars, love. they have what he was going to do with the sequels in there and it's sad because the story was actually really good but disney just threw it to the side and did what they did instead.

It was mostly a loud minority, much like today.
It was mostly episode 1. There was just too much political bullshit in the story, and Jar-Jar didn’t help. Had he been toned down, the backlash would not have led to the creation of Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus. Ep 2 was a little too lovey dovey for too much of the movie, and they didn’t really do THAT much until the ass end of it. Which led to everything in 3 feeling rushed. Lol “a genius at film making” that’s hilarious. If the other people working on the original trilogy Hadn’t been involved, Star Wars would never have been anything other than a shitty b movie. And Lucas would be broke. The only reason people like the prequels is childhood nostalgia.
@@4477superman Ehhhhhhhhhhh some of what you say is true but also false. Lucas is far from a genius in film making, far far far far far far from it. But he is a genius in building a world and a concept of a story. In my opinion, the prequels have a really good story behind it, one of the best ever, it's just the way that it's told with the god awful dialogue, and that has always been George Lucas's weakness, he can't write proper dialogue. I re watched Attack of The Clones recently and I can say for certain that the story of Attack of The Clones is actually really good, it's just held back by the awful dialogue, ESPECIALLY in the Anakin Padme scenes, or whenever Anakin talks about Padme. There's a lot of unnecessary lines thrown in there that really don't need to be, moments where Lucas isn't respecting the audiences intelligence. That being said though, I think the main reason people love the prequels (I especially love Revenge of The Sith) is more so the world and ideas it creates, and if someone, ANYONE had told George Lucas his script and dialogue and needs to be rewritten, the prequels I personally think would rival the OT in terms of quality (except for Phantom Menace that movie just all around sucks and needs an overhaul)
So, in your universe, it goes Scorsese, Kubrick, Tarantino and... George Lucas ?

You can like or hate the style of the prequels, their effects, dialogue, but you can't deny that the story, world-building and character work (the most important elements of storytelling) were actually very good.
With the sequels, it's vice versa.
@@cthulhucrews6602 Palpatine became Chancellor. He meets Dooku who recently left Jedi Order and convinced that Republic doesn't work and convinces him to join him and create Empire. Firstly, Dooku contacts his old friend Sifo-Dyas and convinces him that Republic needs an army of clones and propose Jango Fett as a donor. Syfo Dias goes to Kaminoans and orders the army. Then Dooku kills him and funds the project from his name (and Palpatine maybe funds him). Clones grow for 10 years. If Kaminoans want to ask something, they text Dooku or Palpatine, it works either way. Then Palpatine starts the war with Separatists lead by Dooku and is about to propose to create an army, but Obi-Wan finds it first. Then on Geonosis separatists declare a war and Jedi try to save Obi-Wan and stop Dooku, but are overwhelmed and have no choice but to use the clones.
Assasination: Nute Gunray wants Padme dead since she put him in 4 trials, he agrees to join Dooku if this happens. Dooku knows that Padme is against the war, which he needs to start, so he sends Jango. As Jango is busy on Kamino and too important to be captured, he hires one of assasins he knows. Her tactic with worms is kinda dumb, I agree, but I guess she wanted make the job quiet. Jango follows her to not give Jedi the information and kills her by silent weapon which Jedi can't deflect. Unfortunately for him, Obi-Wan knows Dexter who can identify the weapon and lead him to Kamino. But it just executes Palpatine's plan quicker.

The difference between the prequels and the sequels is consistency.
There's no denying that the prequels certainly had some bad writing, but George knew where he was going with the story, and he didn't give a hoot about what the critics said about him. He made the story work and fit into the overall saga, faults and all. And in the end it spawned several beloved eras of Star Wars (Clone Wars, Old Republic, etc.) that wouldn't have otherwise existed without the prequels being what they were.
On the other hand, the sequels don't have that consistency, and the writing is significantly worse. Disney was just making it all up as they went along and hoped it would work.

It's a bit sad how every self-acclaimed director/scripwriter jumped at Lucas' throat for not making the prequels the way they specifically imagined, while there was an entire generation (including me) who loved every single one of them. I watched the Phantom Menace on VHS about 50 times, sometimes twice a day before Attack of the clones came out, which was my first ever movie I saw in a cinema. And Revenge of the Sith is still my biggest and greatest movie experience ever, to this day.
It's just we were kids and we could't really shout our love out to the world for Lucas to hear. Pissed adults on so-called critical forums were louder anyways. Also I personally didn't even know the prequels are hated. The childhood innocence of thinking that a movie that great is probably liked by everyone.
Hollywood hates George Lucas (because he’s not one of them) so it wasn’t a surprise they jumped on the Prequels, for example did you know the prequels were snubbed from the Oscars, they never even got a Music, Editing, Special Effects, or Custom, nomination, which is complete bullshit especially considering 2 out of 3 sequel trilogy clusterfucks made it into the Oscars
@@alcarbo8613 Yes, I'm really surprised none of the prequels got special effects oscar... the CG in them may be outdated now, but it was revolutionary at the time. I was glad to be raised as a little kid during the modern prequel trilogy, that was the trilogy of my time. As the first one from the modern prequel trilogy came out in 1999, I was 3 years old and I saw it when I was 4. It was that trilogy that really made Star Wars epic the way it was. Ever since, I've been a die-hard Star Wars fan for 48 years. Some things irked me a little....but just a little. I've loved every single movie, including the prequels. And even the Disney-produced episodes VII, VIII, and IX, even though they weren't written by George Lucas (although I've seen in interviews that J.J. Abrams did in fact speak with Lucas for guidance when he wrote and directed VII and IX).
Episode 3 is a masterpiece. To do what he did in CGI at the time was impressive. The storytelling, the foreshadowing, palps vs yoda, scenes man
I loved the prequels as a kid in the early 2000s and have a renewed appreciation for them now precisely because they're 100%, unfiltered Lucas, and an honestly unprecented anomaly in the film industry - 100-150$ million self-funded independent films with no meddling studio executives or focus groups, just a vast canvas for a filmmaker with unlimited resources and total creative control to explore his own aesthetic interests. We'll probably never see anything like them again, not at their scale at least.

Not really, the writing was just on the wall already that this was the future of most special effects work - because computers can do things practical effects and miniature effects can't, and it tends to be cheaper. There are cases of CGI in movies going back to the 1980s, and through the 1990s the technology matured to the point where it could produce convincing creature effects. The Star Wars sequels came at a point where the capabilities of CGI had grown but it still had significant limits, so I think the negative reaction to CGI *at the time* was still very much justified. But movies like the prequel trilogy, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the Harry Potter films are all good demonstrations of what could be achieved with it.
