    I've had horas before. I also had a 1988 Ranger and I know hands on the ranger had more traction. I would places in two wheel drive, the yota would need the hubs locked. twin I beam front suspension performs well in any condition. tighter turning radius too. And the sound of the 2.9l v6 with flowmeter sounds awesome. What a nice sounding engine.

    • @wilecatrexy
      @wilecatrexy Před 8 lety +1

      +Cole Johnson it's not all about tires. Some vehicles are better at laying the power to Sal the wheels.

    • @wilecatrexy
      @wilecatrexy Před 8 lety +2

      My 88 Ranger had no lockers, It would lay rubber posi. Between the little bit of flex in the frame and the suspension travel it kept the wheels more planted to the ground when it got on uneven surfaces like where he ranger in this video went up.

    It is interesting to read the various comments. My take of it all is that I think we need to enjoy our recreational time on the trails with each other and our truck(s) of choice.
    I have been a 4x4 guy for quite some time and Toyota, Ford, Jeep and other brands make some great trail vehicles. In my view, every 4x4 is built, not bought. Further, each 4x4 is a canvas for not only artistic expression and creativity, but a test bed for various suspension and axle set ups. Many of my 4x4's (and I own 9 of them) are all works in progress over time.
    I am very impressed to see the progress of the Gold colored Ranger in this video. If you look at the various video's of this truck on CZcams, you will notice there have been many changes over time and the truck is well built not just bought off the lot.
    Looking at the various videos on Rangers and Toyota's has given me some ideas for my 08 Ranger project. I want to thank everyone that has contributed videos...
    Lastly, I would love to see more video's of the White Tacoma and the Blue Ranger.

      my 1st truck was a 77 F-250 extra cab long bed camper special 460ci.... straight body original orange paint color just redone before I got it. Now I have: 89 2.9 4x4... 87 2.9 4x4... 92 4.0 4x4. I'd trade them all for a 1st gen yota like my old 83 22r 4x4. I would fight for my 89 ranger that's for sure, no matter how many times that hood is up she is still my baby. So I agree completely with your comment!

    • @anthonyainsolar
      @anthonyainsolar Před 7 lety +1

      Its hard to say "better", they are just different. My 89 when I 1st got it with bald tires and old shocks stayed right behind my uncles 01 V6 Tacoma with full lockers 6in lift and new 35in tires (no clue which brand, it was years ago) the twin I-beams are just a whole different experience than a straight axle Toyota. I love them both and I want them both just for different types of trail rides. I grew up around FJ Cruisers my dad had a few both FJ40 and FJ40s, my uncles had a few FJ40s. They both had a straight axle Toyota pick up Ive had an 83 4x4 pick up.... These square body Rangers are great trucks!

    I find many of these comments ridiculously ignorant and sad to say from fellow off-roaders. We can argue which brand marque is best till we're all blue in the face but that won't change an opinion based response. Physics is what it's about, traction is the biggest challenge here. You can have the best 4wd system in the world and it's useless without a good set of tires and proper PSI. That being said I've owned Fords, yota's, land/range rovers, subies, jeeps, and each has it's strengths. Furthermore much of these 'failures' can be to blame of driver/spotter error and the line you drive...including the first pathetic attempt by that yota.

      I have 91 ranger 2.3 engine 8 spark plugs. I've discovered the truck will still run with one coil pack removed, cause the other one fires on exhaust stroke to use up any unburnt fuel. Also from my understanding if you swap a few plugs around on the exhaust firing coil pack, you can make them fire same time as the compression side coil pack and get a .ore powerful double spark.

    both good trucks, the tacoma driver was just less experienced, too much throttle.

    Okay first of all it's not even a fair competition because that's a brand new toyota and that ford ranger is 21 years old, and the ranger still won...sad day for toyota.

    @blazinloud I wouldn't tell them anything, I would just laugh for buying an overpriced truck just kuz it's foreign. My 2wd ranger is a blast at the dunes and reliable on the street. Like I said wait till the frame cracks and well see about that value lol
