Scary Plane Crosswind Landings Compilation

- In aviation, a crosswind landing is a landing maneuver in which a significant component of the prevailing wind is perpendicular to the runway center line.
Aircraft in flight are subject to the direction of the winds in which the aircraft is operating. For example, an aircraft in flight that is pointed directly north along its longitudinal axis will, generally, fly in that northerly direction. However, if there is a west wind, the actual track of the aircraft will be slightly to the east of north. If the aircraft was landing north on a north-south runway, it would need to compensate for this easterly drift caused by the west crosswind.

I agree. I do think that they probably get written up for that or it would happen more often and probably delays other flights.
@@ignazs.5816 Most airlines have a no fault go-around policy, as I understand it. They don’t want to penalize their pilots for being safe. The pilot might have to do some paperwork, but I don’t think they even ask why they executed a go-around.

B.. b.. but I'm in a hurry to get off the plane and start my vacation! You sir, seem to be insinuating that it's worth it for me to have to wait an extra 5-10mins for a safer landing situation! How dare you assume that the 129 other passengers and I are better off NOT potentially sacrificing our lives to shave a few inconsequential minutes off of our arrival time! Do you not realize there are cigarette smokers on board who'd prefer NOT to wait another several minutes to get a few puffs off their Marlboros & Newports(or knockoff brands for those who refuse to spend more than $7 a pack for lung cancer)? It's all about priorities! 😁
Seriously though, you know there are people on that plane who thought like ^that! 🥴🤪🤡

Okay, watching the Emirates A380 pilot wrestling that giant beast through those gymnastics has pretty much ruined my cardiac health for the next week...🥶
They got sacked for that. Not for the landing itself, but the overuse of the rudder.
What? What are you talking about? What wrestling? Who is a giant beast? Gymnastics? Who is doing cardio?

That Emirates landing was absolutely bonkers! I can’t even believe that the landing gear can handle all that lateral stress! You can see them feathering that tail rudder the same way a drift driver feathers the steering wheel and throttle. Unreal.

A crosswind landing with one of the less maniable airplanes possible, the A380. Not the same as landing with a small plane.
Thumbnail is click bait. Im not even going to entertain how impossible a landing like that would be. Im no expert but common sense
basic aerodynamics and ballistics - crosswind turns the plane in to a weather vane. In order to maintain stability of forward flight the plane is pointing "forward" into the wind. The effect is vector of the plain remains the same (down the runway) while the nose points into the air flow. It's scary but its the way to keep the plane from rolling over.
@@libertyhillprecisionfirear5947 Well, it's the way to keep the aircraft the aircraft landed

It wasn't shown here but a couple of years ago an airliner landing at Hamburg International Airport got caught in a massive cross wind that nearly blew it onto its back ! The port wing just missed hitting the runway by mere inches before the excellent pilot did an amazing recovery, setting the aircraft down in a perfect landing. Everybody who saw it happen thought the plane was doomed to crash - but thank God, and the pilot, that did not happen. I am always amazed how good these pilots really are.
Tremendous display of skill and strength.

The fact that I've been on a flight where the same thing happened. We almost saw the wing touch the ground...
...it's also known as 'crabbing' like the way crabs scuttle sideways on a beach. Not a dangerous move but one that every pilot has practised for that one time s/he will have some really bad cross winds. All beautifully done! :)
Let's be honest here; we all know it's exclusively he.

There is definitely some amazing landings there. The pilot that did the go around, he could of made it but better safe than sorry. I respect that completely. Now I understand why pilots seats are brown.
The 737 had lateral excursions (wing rock) below 200' that exceed stabilized approach criteria. At my airline you would be busted for continuing the approach no matter how the landing worked out. Ironically, the best landings were the MD-11s, the most unforgiving airliners as far as landings go. Nice video.

Imagine the cleaning those seats needed...
who will win: a several hundred thousand pound aircraft or one windy boi
Here’s the thing with this stuff: there is absolutely no danger whatsoever as the aerodynamics and physics of a plane ensure this. Do you think they’d let it take off if they thought the wind might blow it out of the sky? No. Why? It can’t happen and never will happen. All aircraft disasters are due to human error, engine failure (human error by any other name), or sabotage (egregious human error by any other name). Repeat, no wind ever brought down a plane, and if it did it was the pilot’s wind after too many prunes.
