Beethoven "Variations on God Save the King" Woo78 Jill Crossland live

Beethoven said "[I want to] show the English what a blessing they have [with this tune]" and rote these in 1803. They were requested by Geoge Thompson, who specialised in getting composer to write arrangements of Scottish folk songs. They were published in London by Clementi and the composer already knew the theme as being the National Anthem of Prussia as well as the British one.
