    Totally disagree.
    Leg length difference causes muscular imbalance. Tight hips, glutes and QL on one side, and weak on the other side. Impossibility to stand tall for a long time. Knee pain when running.
    My left thigh bone is shorter then right. My left adductors are much less stretchy and flexible, than right.

    Thank you very much for making this video. It was very valuable to me, as I used to be worried quite a bit about my leg length difference, which is also about 1.5cm. I was worried especially because there are many articles on the internet (probably not backed scientifically) claiming that you should fix it fast as it might lead to problems like scoliosis otherwise. Now though seeing this video I'm actually relieved as this topic stressed me for quite a while.

    I’ve been wearing orthotics since I was a teenager. I’m 60 and very active at the gym and on the soccer field. My R leg is 1/2 inch longer and my right orthotic adds that much more lift then the left. Any suggestions? I’m wearing minimalist sneakers without orthotics and it feels pretty good.

On my right side its about an inch shorter than my left side. It was cause from a broken leg and it healed shorter. So I wear a shoe lift. ... But I feel it does not help, and I have difficulty exercising in the gym. I want to keep my stomach and body tune but don't know what types of exercises to do. *WHAT ARE YOUR SUGGESTIONS?*

    What about if I have leg length discrepancy as a Division 1 football player and it affects my balance on the turf? I feel like the heel lift alters my gait because i am not supposed to use my heels when sprinting

    Hey man i have an LLD too but im not sure about how long the difference is, all i can say is that it's not that bad, i just want to ask you is it okay for me to do squat or deadlift ? I have been avoiding these activities because of my LLD.
    For some context I fellbfrom my motorbike and broke my femur 11 years ago when i was like 8 Year old

    My experiences are different. I sometimes acquire pain in the ISG region, followed by low back pain. When I then lay flat on my back, upper limbs 90 degrees up, one patella is higher than the other (mostly around 0,5-1 cm) - this leg seems to be longer. It‘s a functional problem that I can solve by a certain layering technique. As soon as both patellae are at the same height again, the pain is gone. A wedge would just prolong the problem and therefore the pain.
    I learned this from a Shiatsu practitioner who relieved me from pain I had had for several years. Orthopedics in my country don‘t know about this. 🤷‍♀️

    I am avid watcher of your channel. These videos been very helpful with my physiostudies, they have me made me realize how much outdated stuff they still teach us, atleast here in Finland.
    Im also in 1,5cm difference gang:D 3 years ago i got runners knee while training(at the time my training load fluctuated alot), went to see physio and got told that my leg lenght difference was cause of the pain. He made me custom insoles with 1cm lift. I wore those insoles pretty religiously for 1,5years, because didnt know better.
    Since then, my understanding about topic has changed and i have stopped wearing them. Now its been almost 2 years without insoles, i just ran my first marathon pain free, i cycle alot, lift weights and live generally active lifestyle with out any knee pain. I´ve also started recently wear vivo barefootshoes, which im big fan off.

    Hi! I want to get into barefoot shoes, but i have a leg length disrepancy. Due to this i have developed plantar fascittis, achilles tendonitis, neck tendon sttainand generally a weaker left side of the body the shorter side. My physichal therapist wants me to use special shoes with one side elevated. Do you think these problems with eleiviate themselves walking barefoot in combibation with strength training? I dont want special shoes.

    I was just introduced to your channel by a cousin of mine because I have osteonecrosis (avascular necrosis) on both hips and will be getting total hip replacements soon. It took 1 year from mild to moderate AO to "bilateral osteonecrosis with sever degeneration of both hip joint spaces with atrophy/resorption of the left femoral head and expansion of the left acetabulum". My left leg has definitely shortened and I now wear a sandal on the left leg because of the pain in the hip when walking I believe the main cause was the coritozone injections as I have had 8 in my left hip since 2020 and 2 in the right. I am 61 years old and didn't have an issue with leg length before. I am hoping that the replacement will make the legs closer the the same length. Thanks for the information!!     I'm curious about my daughter's knee pain. She played high school soccer for 4 years and is now pigeon-toed as a result. She had sharp hip pain on one side for over a year, but that resolved and now both of her knees are having the sharp pain. The doctor is pointing to the leg length difference as the culprit. Any suggestions?

    Two fractures to my right leg motorbike accident I have to put an orthotic in my shoe because when I did not know my leg was shorter training with dogs on a field caused my hip to flare up and that's when I first was told my leg is shorter if I don't put the raise in my shoe feels like I have one shoe on and one-off

    How bad is hip dysplasia with a shortening of femural head by 1,5 cm /2.0cm? ("Flat"/flattened femural head)
    I got 7 months ago diagnosed
    By the way, they recommended (must) me , to wear shoelifts and by past 6 months I start having pain, inflammation on both hips.

    Just saw this video and i have a 6mm LLD, X ray imaging. I always noted m right leg stride felt longer and that I had a "gangster lean". I purchased foot lifts, but now I noticed my body compensating for that. I was starting to have hip pain and I attributed to the LLD but now I am not so sure. Should i even bother with the foot lift? The hip pain has gone away but just feel off now. Has anyone else felt a difference using foot lifts?

    My femur is one in longer than my left diagnosed with a bone scan. I’m 60 and have had back pain my entire life from age 3. I had a 3/4 show lift given to me after this diagnosed in my late 20s and soon after my L4 L5 disc completely ruptured and I had foot drop and surgery. I know have Levoscoliosis in my cervical spine and have had degenerative disc disease and arthritis since my 20s. I have spinal stenosis. I have severe debilitating muscle cramps in my legs and rib cage area and mild scoliosis in my t spine and I have hip pain on my right side and a huge lipoma on my right side. Lost my ACL right knee dancing age 17 replaced at age 47 and it ruptured again age 58. I’m over weight. And my main exercise has been in water for the last 30 years but during winter I can’t get in my pool. I want to walk more but worried I’ll hurt my self …my mobility is getting less and less I’m afraid I’ll get less mobile and my goal is to move more and get stronger. Any advice on increasing walking with advice on the pain and muscle cramps with increasing walking and if those are red flags to walk less or push through would be appreciated or any other exercises I can do to get stronger and not increase my pain or side effects like arthritis. Thank you

    Hi I had a pretty bad case of overpronation that caused me many foot, knee and hip pain. I did a hyprocure surgery that fixed my overpronation. The surgery resolved my knee, foot and hip pain. My left leg is 10 mm longer than right. And overpronation, knee pain, foot pain and hip pain was much worse on the left leg. My doctor is a very experienced surgeon and he told me that the majority of his patients who have leg difference above 5 mm tend to overpronate on the longer leg more. He recommends to use a shoe lift if the difference is above 5 mm. What is your experience between leg difference and overpronation and posterior tibialis tendon tendinopathy?

      I overpronate more on my longer leg too (10mm) and have flexible flat feet (low arches as well). My physiotherapist suggested I get orthotics with a 10mm lift (not just in the the heel which IMO is pushing the body in an unnatural position like women's high heels do).

    I think i have a leg length discrepancy, and via testing with same size slabs it would be around the 2cm mark.
    I would agree that it doesnt cause direct pain at all. It foes however definately cause massive patterns of compensation, which over time degrade in function.
    I will get low back pain and spinal issues, but they are clearly due to the compensations surrounding the leg length discrepancy.
    My main issue is just after putting my body through any strenuous activity, its like the more i do the less my body responds. Its as if the muscles globally just listen less and less.
    But yes i agree the body does an amazing job orienting you to avoid the pain, however this act of avoiding pain is what really fucks you over in the long term.
    For instance, my pelvis is very twisted to the left, with the back following. The pelvis is generally very anteriorly rotated. Im stuck in left stance phase of gait. I also have functional scolliosis.
    So ye leg length discrepancy may not result in direct pain but it doesnt mean it isnt causing issues that would result in pain if you aligned the body properly.

    I struggle with leg/hip pain and feeling uncoordinated. They made me wear a shoe lift when I was a kid for 10 mm discrepancy as adult I tried chiropractors and physical therapy but my brain still struggles to feel normal without the lift I hate wearing lifts they press on my nerves and affect the shoes I can wear I just want to feel balanced without it

    In case of LLD causing knee flexum, chain imbalance, and abnormal gait how this can be solved in elderly with neurological conditions and poor body adaptation and resilience ??

    Just depends on the individual if it matters or not. There is a difference between functional and anatomical leg length discrepancy. I have slight scoliosis and my hips can get slightly twisted sometimes. usually when that happens one leg goes higher, Which A chiropractor can adjust my hip twist. If I don’t get it adjusted my SI joint will start to hurt. After this is adjusted my leg lengths are closer to the same. So my case it matters. Because it’s caused from something else. Just putting a lift in one shoe when my leg is shorter than the other will obviously not fix the hip twist.

    Back pain my entire life , played many sports ... finally began seeing a chiropractor in my late 20 's . Leg length was detected and it was huge almost an inch . started with small lifts in shoes ,finding some relief i kept with it . But the pain would return after a few months , so we just kept adding lifts until i could not fit them in my shoe ... Found a cobbler who was able to build in an exterior lift to the right shoe . Final height was 2.2 cm . walked on these for the last eight years . in the last year developed a new back pain . finally got MRI and x-rays . Turns out i have now severe stage 4 osteoarthritis in lower spine . wondering now if the left was just masking the osteo pain all along ?? went to a few other chiropractors to get opinion s , one says my legs are the same the other says i may have a slight imbalance ... then i show them my shoes and they are blown away and say get off the lifts right away . i just don't know what to believe or do . The larger 2.2 exterior lift on shoe created another problem as well , because it was so big it restricted the toes from flexing when i walked so i developed arthritis in the toe joints due to lack of movement . What a journey this has been . 60 now but still struggling to find the right answer . thanks for the info .

      Bad luck
      Me, 23 M, first diagnosis was Left hip dysplasia, with a asymmetry of 1 to 2 cm, different doctor opinions ... Have pain on lower back region, hip and knees ....
      I have been screen and i sincerely Am calm because the doctors and X-ray report said that my knees have no problem,
      I mean they release this crunchy like sound named Crepitus but in the end to no sad event
      I have had wore the shoe lift and the feeling I can recall is that the pain maybe subsided on the problematic hip but my right one started hurting ... The past is haunting me
      Wish the best, may God help you because you can improve this situation.

    Was your leg length discrepancy measured by RX ? Is it the real home shorter??
    I’ve got a 6 or 7mm shorter leg after tibia and perine fracture when I was kid , after that I always had problems running, hip pains, and I really feel the difference , I can’t train heavy weight with Constance without having problems .. I would like to fix that difference that why I’m looking at surgeries … I’m 27 …
    That’s all bullshit, you can’t train normally with 15mm shorter leg

    I have 15mm difference. I use 0,5cm corrective pad for my regular shoes. I feel better when i use them. But when i use barefoots i use no corrective stuff whatsoever. Is it a problem? I use both barefoot and my regular shoes regularly

      Realistically, no one will be able to wear a heel lift 24/7. You will be barefoot from time to time and that is okay. In these cases, I may ask someone to monitor how they feel without it. Do they feel okay after 2 hours? A day? I might even see if overtime they can increase their tolerance without a heel lift.
      I personally used one for about 3 years (almost all the time), mostly because I was made to believe I HAD to use it. Then I went on vacation for 2 weeks where I didn’t wear it once. I found that nothing changed and I felt great , so it was at that point I realized I would be fine without it (I don’t use one anymore). I am not saying this is for everyone. But as you mentioned, there will be times you are barefoot or can’t use a heel lift, and this is generally not a problem. It will of course depend person to person, but most people will be able to increase their tolerance without one over time, if desired.

    I am 81 years of age and developed terrible back pain five years ago. I was on medication from the GP who said it was arthritis. One day as I was getting out of the shower, I looked in the mirror and saw that I was lop-sided, i.e. one hip was higher than the other or one hip was lower than the other so I went online to read about the problem. It stated that I had a pelvic misalignment and found that heel lifts were recommended to bring my pelvis into line. I measured my hip bones and found that I was 1 cm out of line so I bought an heel lift, placed it in my shoe to bring my hip bone in alignement with the other hip bone and hey presto, no more back pain. I even wear it with backless sandals (as long as there is a strap on the sandal and the heel lift is glued down it is fine.

    Any thoughts on using manual techniques like muscle energy for SI joint pain? I’ve found that can be incredibly effective. I had one patient with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome who had pain for over a decade and that was one of the things that helped get rid of her pain which is backed by some research

      @@E3Rehab it would take a really long time to explain everything here but ME techniques can be used for pubic symphysis hypomobility, an anterior rotated or posteior rotated innominate. Kisner/Colby Therapeutic Exercise: Foundations and Techniques does a good job of breaking it down

    My left leg has been 46mm shorter than my right since birth. My right foot is a reconstructed club foot with the consequential beanpole shin. I am now 64. I have been in pain and discomfort all of my life thus far . I could never run or swim properly and I have always been a bad tempered , miserable bastard. The deposits of hard skin under the ball of my left foot (pressure points) have to be seen to be believed. The left side of my body is affected by pain, right through to my jaw, as you suffer from bruxism when you are really struggling and the pain on the top of my scalp can be unbearable. Leg leg discrepancy doesn't have any effect ! Are you trying to make light of a serious problem? If so why? Try strapping a bible to the underside of your right foot only and then walk, work and try to live a normal life for 64 years and see how different you feel then fella!!!! You will end up walking this earth just like me. With a face that looks like a smacked arse!!!!
