But this E rickshaw broke high price monopoly of cycle rickshaw taking nearly 1/4 price and from home to Delhi metro station earlier there was only one option phat phat seve in which 14 people seat in a car like rickshaw and it was very very congested, no air , and literally have to wait 15-20 minutes for full filling of that vehicle. For decades this was the daily life of delhite specially for a metro travelling man but after E rickshaw came those phat phat seva vehicles now not be seen more in Delhi, easy seating, fast filling of passengers, open from all sides for air and it somewhat also effects auto rickshaw wala ( never go with meter) because now these E rickshaw started going to 10-12 km distance also . In delhi sabzi walas has now these types of rickshaw by this they easily purchase vegetables from mandi and sell them to different areas, doodhwalas started carrying doodhs containers in those rickshaws, even government bodies started collecting garbage in these rickshaws, people use these types of rickshaws to send their children to schools from home, sand and ballo, cement carrying vehicles also replaced from old cycle thela to e rickshaw, furniture shops delivers furniture in these rickshaws, these rickshaws literally replaced more than 50 percent cycle thelas, and tempos . In small land cities like Agra kanpur , ferozabad, vrindavan these E rickshaws nearly replaced costly auto rickshaw for far travelling also. I can assure that after these E rickshaw+ metro travelling in Delhi becomes like a flowing butter and these E rickshaws are boon for momos stalls, food stalls ( they carried there apparatus in these rickshaws earlier by 2-3 round of cycle rickshaw) and for shopkeepers for transferring things, after these rickshaws people stop using personal vehicled to reach to metro stations and earlier metro stations have parking space but now no new metro station in Delhi has parking space because no need of it

Actually these rickshaws somewhat reduced vehicles in Delhi roads, earlier many metro stations in Delhi have parking space but now no new metro station has parking space because no need of it, And earlier people were not using so much metro because of difficulty in going to metro station from home and metro station to work place or bazzar so they were using bikes etc but now no more, and people also started using these rickshaws when going to bazzar and crowded streets in place of cars. These rickshaws becomes a lifeline for shopkeepers in delhi bazzar and busy streets areas for shop luggage transport in cheap prices

When a substantial metro network is built and bus connectivity improves, that would be a good opportunity to reduce the number of rickshaws.

i am of the view that small cars like alto and nano cars should be authorised to run as autorickshaws in Mumbai instead of the current tri-wheeler rickshaws.
driver + one passenger in front and 2 passengers in the rear, comfy travel and safe, especially in rainy season
main issue is . rickshaws can turn easily so the average pedestrian does not care how he/she walks on the road, they know the rickshaw will easily move around them and go ahead.
problem is they expect the same kind of avoidance from 4 wheel cars and this is where a lot of non fatal ( and some fatal) accidents happen.

Plus Mumbai already has many ways to travel in the cheapest of rates, buses are always available and they enter the narrowest of roads easily, so mumbaikars dont really need e rickshaws, in delhi it made an impact because of metro, even then delhi has such good roads and yet the crazy traffic, in mumbai 90% roads are just single lanes. and delhi has double in 90% and on major roads it goes 6-8-10 too. Then there are the crazy rains to consider, the water logging which happens every monsoon, the potholes..

E Rickshaw battery charging does not cost 7/km. Even if battery replacement cost is considered. If it did, it wouldn't have become rickshaw of choice in the North states.
It is slower to move but it also moves more people than an Autorickshaw. Bajaj RE is legal for 3 passengers, E-Rickshaws carry 6 (2 people each on 2 rows facing each other, sometimes 3). So they carry twice the load of an Autorickshaw in 1.2x floor area. So they may decrease the speed, but they also decrease the vehicles on the road like a bus does.
Also, these E-Rickshaws use Lead Acid battery which has a resale value. New battery is rarely sold without trading in your old battery. This old battery recycling rate is very high and almost nothing ends up in the landfill. Nobody in their right mind will throw away a lead acid battery. Some enterprising battery dealers cater specifically to E-Rickshaws and run battery swap stations where an E-Rickshaw can swap their discharged battery in 5 min for a charged one for a fixed fee. If this service is used, there is practically zero battery replacement cost because it is paid for every charge, not once every 6 months. And even if it costs slightly more to run/km (which it doesn't), let's not forget that the E-rickshaw transports 6 people, not 3.
Majorly E-Rickshaws are used as last mile transit around metro stations. They need not travel on the faster roads because people getting out of the metro know where they need to go and alight only at the nearest stations. Mumbai metro stations are only just coming up but suburban rail has been there in Mumbai since a 100+ years. But suburban rail stations are farther from each other than metro stations reducing the practicality of a slower mode of transport.
The real reason why E-Rickshaws did not pick up in Mumbai like they did in north is because initial push to E-Rickshaws came from people upgrading from cycle rickshaws. And Cycle rickshaws do not exist anywhere in Maharashtra, not just in Mumbai. All over Maharashtra, Autorikshaw is just Rickshaw. Without the initial push from cycle rickshaw upgraders, none of the existing CNG rickshaw providers switched. Now Ola is bringing its 3-wheeler to compete with Bajaj RE apart from Mahindra Treo and Bajaj themselves. These are true competitor to the Autorickshaw. They have the emissions advantage but suffer from the same seating capacity disadvantage. Till the time an EV competitor to the 6 seater tuk-tuk is not made, the congestion problem cannot be solved.
I usually like your videos but this one is very poorly researched.

batteries will cause more pollution than existing 3-wheelers, while many 3-wheelers now are 4 stroke and not 2 stroke, the old 2 stroke engines are still prevalent but this can be changed by a proper reform planning. Existing Batteries are not a solution.

It's actually a simple reason, our normal rickshaw in Mumbai travels long distances and due to that they not just need range for multiple trips but also the most important speed. The kind of E-Rickshaw you are telling/ Delhi has, are small, slow and have very less range, which is ideal for a small city/state like Delhi, but not in Mumbai. Yes, there are adaptions of E-Rickshaw which are the normal size of our normal Mumbai Rickshaw but will take time to adapt in large scale, because it's not just about Union accepting it but also important about the amount profit can it generate considering it's life span, range etc.

The people who drive them have 0 level of civic sense.. they can make a u turn at any point of time from the mid of the road where they see their passengers.. they don't follow any rules.. they don't obey traffic lights.. they can even park their vehicle in the mid of the road also... They don't care if the entire back traffic is struck up just because the rickshaw driver wanted to stop . They are just making my city slow and weird.. they are just infinite on the roads now..
