What does this tell us? As the paying capacity of people increased, their faith-mechanism also moves. Nirma was phosphate-free, still just because it didn't have a premium appeal, People flocked to different high end(but not necessarily good products). Even today many beauty and health care brands that we know of are not good, and many have been banned in European markets. But we in India, we find all western products naturally better than the rest. That's the tragedy. Good for Patel Bhai that he moved on to other sectors. Happy for him and his endeavours. But, our inclination towards the west makes me sick. We have got so much in our Bharat, only if we start to take notice. Cheers.

Abhinav Sharma, Karsanbhai Patel spent 100s of Crores in other business ventures. He could have used some of that money to improve the packaging and also the TV Ads of Nirma to appeal to newer customers. Simple.
Why he didn't do that we don't know? May be , he had already diverted his mind and money towards business diversification and was not that interested in improving Nirma.

I am from tamilnadu. In my childhood my mom ask me to buy nirma washing powder. The very first time we use washing powder. Before that wr use local made washing soap. Powder form is easy to the house wives to clean lot of clothes. That child in the ad is very famous at that time

Nirma name for bath soap didn't felt right. It gave impression in mind of detergent soap for bathing. Cheap tag followed by quick pull out from market due to competition strategy in 2000's didn't work as it did in 80's when there where less options. Today one cannot buy even if they want to.
